Trainz 2009 DISAPOINTMENT

it all depends whether you see Auran as a technology provider or content provider.

Black and white movies still show in black and white on my nice new colour LCD TV.

Not if you get one of those nice coloured sweet wrappers and hold it up in front of you while watching the telly.

All my black&white films, show in glorious shocking pink.

IKB.

I'm not sure what your issues are, I don't think that you even know. I have been running 2006 flawlessly for a few years and now 2009 is much better than that. Great Job Trainz Team :)

Note; For the record I have ever copy of Trainz but I will not be buying 2009 as I feel it should be a FREE upgrade.

Auzze
;) And Windows Vista should be a free update to Windows XP for those who dare to!

:p And Photoshop CS4 should be given away as a Christmas gift all over the year to come!

:hehe: And I should be given 30-day leaves every 30 days!

Asking for more? No worry, ladies and gentlemen! This is the Auran Trainz Chimerical Wish List Forum! Please, queue up, limited seats to watch the show... ;) :hehe:

The giving-away side of Alberte

If you are experiencing problems with disappointment towards the graphical qualities of the game please refer to this...;)

USER-(sees the new sd40 for 09)
"WOW the sd40 for trainz HOLY @%$# That doesn’t even look like trainz OMG!":hehe:

USER-(Gets a copy of 09 or sees some screens using the older lower quality content in 09)
"OHH I want my MONEY BACK! DANG IT!:'( What why! it doesn’t look like the quality of the sd40!!!!!!!!!!"

Ansa to ya problemo!

Im going to tell you why this is.

The reason is for the-

~WHYDOESENTALLTHECONTENTLOOKLIKETHESD40~ (Well because it's a Train):hehe: HA HA!

Is Because it's using gloss mapping and a normal mapping and a specular mapping Which makes for a more realistic look and some of these advances you see above you can only do in -Trainz simulator 2009-if you don’t all know what normals maps and gloss and specular maps are I will explain all of them.

Gloss mapping is well there you have it, its applying a gloss look to the sd40 that happens in the real world so it's more realistic yea!

Specular mapping is (Please correct me if Im wrong) is where it maps out (you could call it) the glossy parts and the rough looking non reflective parts on the sd40 the rust for example.

Normal mapping-well this a whole lot harder to explain then those other two so I will give you a real quick insight.
What it does is makes a real looking 3d shape from a map which interacts with light.
Light can hit from any angle and it will change its shadow and light position.
For more info.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_mapping

And Another thing that makes models more realistic is how high detailed you really want to go The sd40 is probably some where in the 90,000 to 150,000 ploys range and has heaps of little details on it would of taken weeks and weeks of work to build.

If you wanted to build a good sized (About 40 baseboards) route of that quality (Very high detailed route) with new content such as rolling stock and trains that you or some one else has made Gee It might take over 6 months!
In man-hours which is a lot of time just to build a good sized route.;)

And if your wondering about the high resolution ground textures take a look at the slide show on the trainz 2009 website and have a look! It looks awesome! and that’s just a little example.:D

And After all that what saying basically is give Trainz 2009 Some Time for the high quality content to flow in just wait about 6 months and 2 days and 3 hours and 23minutes and 45 seconds and 21 milliseconds and 14 nano seconds Alright that’s enough!:hehe:

And we will ALL be having a good Old time with trainz 2009 hopefully!:D

WHOOOO GO AURAN GO TRAINZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That concludes my longest post THANK YOU!:p

~Maglevsx Cheers Big Ears~;)

Or just wave your magic wand and all the highly detailed content will appear .... which is what the impatient ones seem to imply.

yea, right. Well since my supply of magic dust is rather low and I've got other uses for it, it might take 6 months, 2 days etc for new super content :hehe:

Well I for one have been critical of Trainz over the years. Having been around since the beginning, I have seen the Evolutionary (not Revolutionary) direction that Trainz has taken. Since I am still using it (TRS04) that must tell you that my satisfaction outweighs my disappointments. However, I am also a consumer and as such, I have a right to make my complaints or concerns as well as appreciation, known for a product that I have invested my hard earned dollars in. Auran are big boys now, their shoulders slope downwards so whatever is said good or bad, they can take it.

So here is what I know. I had the Beta for 2009. My first thought....nothing much has changed from a content point of view. Yes, I did see improvement in the performance and draw distance in the sim which one cannot help but appreciate. While I may not like the decision on the part of Auran to leave it up to the average joe - nothing personal - to create content that will take advantage of its (TRS09) innermost workings i.e. higher quality, greater detail, much improved rendering of that content, I will weigh that against its $30.00 cost. And, I suppose if I want that nice new content from Auran then I would buy the EE edition and not the WBE edtion! So, in the end, I have choices and choices are always nice to have, aren't they! :o

In the end though everyone will get what each wants but each will have to wait. For me, the wait will be due to the content creators of the Trainz world having to do what they do best.....make that nice new 'stuff'. For the others, who want that 'stuff' to come with the game/sim, then they will have to wait for the EE edtion due in 2009!

As well, I have seen hughe......ok. maybe not 'hughe' but at least lots...... of confusion on the part of users of this current software who are trying to understand and or figure out what it is that Auran has done with TRS2009. I don't know how many times one has to read what Tony and others have said before it becomes clear, but my guess is that it will be an ongoing tale to be spoken!!

Maybe this will help:

WBE - stands for World Builders Edition - means that if you want to create routes with the key word being "CREATE" then buy this one. There won't be any new content in it so don't expect any.........period!! It will have the potential to render that nice new "stuff" really, really well though. That nice new "stuff" then will come from the content creators out there. On their time, at their leisure and what they want to create. P.S. I hope they take requests!!!

EE - stands for Engineer's Edition - means if you want to "RUN/DRIVE" trains and NOT create routes, then buy this one. The routes will be there and when it is released (2009) it will have the nice new "STUFF" - right out of the box!! :D

In the end, I will bet that at some time 2010 or beyound, Auran will come out with a version that will have Both!!

If I have added to the confusion here, please feel free to slap my wrists.

HI..

Yet again Auran fails to deliver anyting new other than the same basic old stuff tarted up. It's like buy last year model wih a MP3 player.

COME ON AURAN LIFT YOUR GAME AND STOP FEED LEFTOVERS AND BULD SOMETHING TOTAL NEW!!!

Auzze....:( :( :( :( :(
Couldn't have said it better!!! There is so much proof in this so I don't want to see any idiot replys in defense of Auran. I'm not saying that Auran sucks, I'm saying there is some changes that I think everyone could enjoy. If these changes are made, it would in a likelyhood outsell MSTS and RailSimulator by hundreds! What I like about 09 is the defalt track change. What I hate about TRS06, the generic horns. Lets go, make us a better Trainz, Auran!!! -Cheers,Woody.

I am extremely disappointed that there have been a huge number of adverse comments about TS2009 from people who obviously did not read and understand the purpose of this release.

Guys, posting comments that do not contain constructive criticism does nothing whatsoever to promote the value of the hobby we all enjoy. Instead it serves to create the wrong impression about what this release was intended to achieve - a platform from which new exciting content could be produced that will enhance the EE edition to be released soon.

I think the community as a whole would rather see comments directed at improving what we have available rather than criticising something that doesn't deserve it and, clearly, this is the case here.

Auran made it perfectly clear EXACTLY what each version of TS2009 was designed to do and achieve. If you choose to ignore the advice of the developers and go ahead with the purchase based on your assumptions of what would be included then you only have yourself to blame.

Please do not criticise Auran in these circumstances - they do not deserve it as they have no control over your expectations.

Guys, we are a community of railway enthusiasts pursuing our chosen hobby for our own enjoyment while at the same time contributing our various talents and abilities to help those who are not so gifted to enjoy our hobby to the same level as we do ourselves.

Lets keep it that way - friendship and cooperation on a grand scale.

Firstly, buyer beware AND buyer be aware. It's like a size XL person blindly grabbing a shirt in a department store, paying for it, then getting home to see it's a size S. Then of course it's the fault of the department store :o

What was advertised as being part of the package...is how it panned out. Sure, this hasn't always been the case in the past, but we've moved on from that to bigger and better things.

I don't think there's anything wrong with adverse comments providing they can be backed up with fact. The initial post is unconstructive display of tantrum throwing with no description of what the User's issue actually is.

Notice the initial poster hasn't been back to post in this thread, so what do you say we just keep feeding, huh?...

This thread has run it's course. You can please some of the people all the time and all the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time. :)

Cheers and a Happy Holiday Fest to All :)
