Hmmm, another person who didn't actually read about what they were getting...
Yes, 09 WBE contains old content. Yes, there is very little new content in 09 WBE. But, the purpose of WBE was to get it into the hands of content creators (layout builders, as well as reskinners and 3D creators, and so on) so that people such as yourself CAN see new content come through in the next edition. It's no longer a case of throw a model together overnight and slap some random textures onto the object. For 09 standard content it takes a long time (10 days approx for a simple building, probably 2-3 months if not longer for a locomotive, and so on). Auran have included a sample set of new assets (6 if I remember right), but due to time constraints haven't been able to include more. And you've only paid $30 for this version. If you wanted Auran to make a completely new game you would be looking at the $90+ mark. And it probably wouldn't be released for another 1-3 years...
The next version, an 'expand-alone' version called Engineer Edition, will have the new content in it. As has been said MANY times. The thing is, as above, it takes time to make this content. And money. And this second one, money, is what Auran need to be able to fund the production of Trainz. This version is also designed to pay for the production of the next one, so that you can get your new content... So that Auran can work on the next version, instead of attempting to make a completely new game (or atleast new content for the 09 features) and running out of money to do so because they didn't release a 'starter' version early on to pay for all this work...

Before you post you should do a search. Your comments have been made many times and the answer is always the same - you did not read what Auran's plans are.
What you have is WBE - World Builder Edition and they said quite plainly that it would contain existing content and only three new items. New content can't exist until creators make some, which they could not do until they get the new program.
At some time in the New Year they will issue EE - Engineers Edition with new content but without Surveyor.

Confused...if I buy WBE now it WILL have surveyor capabilities.

That correct. Engineer Edition is designed for those who just like to drive. Apparently it will have a 'train setup' area, but you won't be able to edit layouts.
But it is supposed to be able to install as an 'expansion'/'update' to WBE, which will give you EE updates and content as well as surveyor. And it can also be installed on it's own.

I'd like to say "Auzze - Go home" but you already are home. Ford and Holden bring out a new model every year or so, but the body shape is almost identical to earlier models. It's what's under the bonnet (hood for you yanks) that counts, so unless you've reversed engineered Trainz and can prove to all of us that you actually know what you're talking about, I suggest you keep your negative thoughts to yourself.

I agree with Zec. This version of Trainz is a departure from the previous graphics engine and it will take some time for content creators to learn the ropes. Therefore, we have the World Builder's Edition. 
Personally, I'm waiting for the Passenger's Edition, so I can kick back and relax.

it all depends whether you see Auran as a technology provider or content provider.
Black and white movies still show in black and white on my nice new colour LCD TV. The display technology has changed a lot in the last 50 years, but the original content still looks the same. It requires content creators to update the content to match the new technology platform.
Now, with TS2009, people can come along and "remaster" the originals using new textures, replacing old objects with new, and things will begin to look very different. Then, as more and more content is created and people start using the updated scripting features and begin taking advantage of the power under the hood, a totally new experience will be possible.
Sometimes I think we should have charged full price for World Builder - we would have copped the same amount of criticism and had more money to invest into making more content.

Good point, Tony. Every advance with this program has been met with the same criticisms. Perhaps it is due to the technological conditioning to expect instant gratification. When it is not immediately forthcoming, the public complains.

TS2009 WBE has a whole lot of new features and content form previous Trainz Editions, also lots of bugs fixed, new interface in surveyor mode.
TS2009 EE will have a whole lot of new content, new routes and new driver features.
Once TS2009 EE is released in Q1 2009 you can install TS2009 EE over TS2009 WBE then you will still have all the new WBE features and WBE content plus also you will have the new EE content, new EE routes and new driver features.
SP1 for TS2009WBE is coming next week.

Nothing changes after a new chapter of Trainz is released.
I do think the problem really is that some people coming here from other train sims still look for a cure of their tiredness on those other sims. :hehe:
The Microsoft pioneer solution is really asking for a retirement (the new version is still in the realms of a chimera); the Kujuwhoknowsitsnamenow has been being a fiasco since its inception. Nothing more than a "pay per everything although add-ons are worse than my humble creations" system.
Yes, some people do feel that this forum is a loudspeaking enhancement to their laments on lacking a dream-away sim tool. And it is permitted too. Who can offer more? None of that is allowed on the official forums owned by the perpetrators of past fiascos.
And the question that these whining (let's hope good-willed) people should ask themselves is:
Were the other sims released stuffed with real top-quality assets?
If the self-answer is NOoooooooooooooooooooo (mine is that way), there's a second self-question?
Isn't my self-frustration prompting me to be unfair with a certain small leisure software company located in the land of the Aussies?

Anyhow, Tony and Auran must be aware of something very important. Trainz is nothing without this wonderful legion of loyal supporters. And listening to them is part of the lovely game.

which we have been trying to tell anyone who will listen. Just because a new version is released, doesn't mean the old version will suddenly stop working. During the whole 06 and Classics period, I was still happily creating for and using 04.

I don't want to build layout, I don't want to run trains, I want to have a server based system where I can choice a layout, make up trains that can setup cars or passanger trains that people can access and run them from they computer and have it run like a real railroad.
In the early days of Trainz this is what they have been saying this will happen, now 5 years on they are no closer to doing this but still trying to fix the content peoblem which they created by not taking control of this. I don't think we should have to help Auran fund this.
Note; For the record I have ever copy of Trainz but I will not be buying 2009 as I feel it should be a FREE upgrade.

Ok for those who do nothing but b**** b**** b**** about trs-2009. let me put it this way. they updated it so it more real. all the games trs-2004 2006 are IMPROVED say it with me IMPROVED. they added better graphics to make it work and look nicer and more real. its like having a anolog tv with a fuzzy pic and you upgrade to HD (high definition) TV. YOU WILL SEE A MAJOR IMPROVEMENT IN GRAPHICS THATS IT. so there. you want new wait untill EE comes out in 09.
I really don't think I could find another hobby/interest that has kept me occupied for hundreds of hours for the cash I spent.I'm a little confused,since I spend most of my time building,I don't know what I need (WBE)?.
