Hi all,

As Auran are rumored to have no interest in developing TS12 any further, be it updates or new addons, I was wondering if anyone had tried TS2013 from railsim? I have been looking at it and it's associated Steam support sites and was wondering what the rest of you make of it or whether you would buy it at all?

I'd avoid it myself, as I wouldn't want to be tied down to Steam.

Anyway, do you seriously think N3V will announce what development they are doing? They are always working on updates/addons, but do not announce them until just before release.

Shane

It's Rail Simulator from some time ago, just updated a lot. Also, more features got broken or disabled in the process from what I've heard of it.

And what rumor? I have heard no rumors.

Ever asked yourself why there is an ACTIVE BETA TESTING PROGRAM, please keep your fanciful theories to yourself.

I wish we could not have these kinds of threads. But, no.

Mods, can someone please lock this thread before it goes up in smoke?

And no, I wasn't trying to bash it. I don't like it and I don't want to talk about it.

I heard a rumour the world was going to end on December 21st, 2012. Turned out to not be true.

Okay, a bit more serious then:
Did you bother to check who started that rumour? Was it the person in the mirror or did he happen to work for Railwork or Steam or any other company not being N3V?
Don't believer everything you hear ;).

Second:
Asking if it is a smart plan to buy something on the forum of the competitor of that product is never smart idea. The only result ever coming from that is a bar fight without beer yet people acting like they are drunk anyway. Ask that question on a neutral forum and you might get a more neutral answer.

But Im ready for a bar fight, I even brought the beer!

But yea, avoid asking about Railworks (what ever the hell its calling it self) any where near Trainz...or me for that matter. The past few months I have been trying to write an unbiased review of three sims, and RW has given me the biggest head ache.

Flightsim friend of mine bought it last summer when it was on sale for about $4, and he said it wasn't even worth that much. He used it for a couple of months and deleted it. Poor frame rates, poor physics, everything is payware, and dropping $1,000 on add on content seems to be pretty typical for many of it's fans. Then add in the fact that you have to have Steam invading your PC, and that is a nail in the coffin for many simmers. I tried it on a really good gaming PC, much better than mine, and stutters and poor frame rates were a real turn off for me. Add to that, the AI is crappy.

BTW, I read in a post somewhere yesterday on this forum, that someone was beta testing a new upgrade for TS12. so maybe something is coming down the pike.

I never actually gave Trainz an honest try, played the demos a few times, deleted them, and went back to MSTS. In October 2007 I got railsim, then Railworks when it changed to that. So how good is Railworks? Here I am in Trainz, what does that tell you?

I would suggest reading some posts here;

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewforum.php?f=358&sid=e96259de35ff59b451585fe6189e47f5

Pay particular attention to the extreme difficulty setting up even the most basic AI traffic in scenarios.

I have them all, they are all fun.

Try them you will like them all.

They all fail miserably in some areas, but excel in others.

Isn't live about variety. They all provide enjoyment.

You will never get an unbiased answer on a forum.

I found this to be an interesting thread. Many people that have bailed out on RW, have posted here. http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showth...le-to-get-Jointed-Rail-engines-onto-railworks

Things posted on TrainSim have to be taken with a grain of salt. It is the usual band of negative bed-wetters complaining.

TrainSim is a flame war waiting to happen. Cheap entertainment:o

Harold

Pro-RW3 rants posted on this forum, I also take with a grain of salt. Many of the people in the thread that I posted are long time Train simmers, and I think there is alot to learn from those folks. Having to call people "bed wetters", because you disagree with their opinions, shows where you are coming from.

Whoa! Apply the brakes a little and some of you need not be so quick to bash me. I simply asked a question of fellow rail simmers of another product out there. There are 3 rail Sims worth talking about and I merely asked your opinions on the ts2013 being offered by rail sim.How that gives you reason to bitch slap me boggles the mind a little. Sim fans try out different products, no matter whether it's rail, flight, sim etc.

I was browsing tech and game review websites this morning and that was where the idea regarding Auran's further development was drawn from. That coupled with information given by other 3rd party creators on other forums.

@SD45, if the topic didn't interest you, or if it upset the cocoon you live in, then you could have passed it by and not made a comment. I am as entitled to ask a general question in here as much as the next man, I guess that's why they call it the general section!

Now back tot the question raised, has anyone tried it and what is your opinion of it?

You will never get an honest opinion anywhere. Train sims are like politics and religion.

The only way with Train sims is to try them yourself. You are the only one who can say whether they are any good.

Like I said, I have them all. I like them all. Just was playing the new Thomas-Trent route on MSTS. Really nice route and FUN.

MSTS is cheap now, ancient sim but lots to do if you like to run trains and mostly free. Doesn't look that good but is entertaining.

"TrainSim is a flame war waiting to happen" and 99% of the flamewars are started by the cheerleaders coming in to shake their pom-poms in negative threads instead of starting their own positive threads. This thread is a good example, some trainz members hate the topic, but are too damn neurotic to ignore it.

The complaints at trainsim.com are about 5% nutcases who enjoy complaining about everything, 95% are legitimate complaints about something that never should have been marketed as a train simulator in the first place. What surprises me is the lack of complaints on other forums;

Seriously? That's acceptable, trying to set up a simple AI traffic pattern and the AI trains pay no attention to signals, instead relying on all the other running trains to be at specific locations at specific times? Like the dispatchers set the schedule for the day then punched out and went home, assuming everything would go according to plan? Why have signals at all?

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=360&t=129697

The answer to that question is hell no not a chance, but you can't post that at UKtrainsim since the fanboys would have a hissy fit. That guy is in for a rude awakening when he tries to set up simple AI traffic.

Hi Harold, I agree. I have bought all the TS12 addons and can't be accused of being a "bed wetter" or un supportive of Auran and it's developers. Auran itself was borne of of other small companies and creators, it evolved from the work started or created by others. It seems some here live a on a pedestal us mere mortals are not worthy to pee against or ask for directions from. I almost wish I never asked the question now, such childish immature responses received above - you would think they are rocket scientists at NASA afraid some Russian astronaut was trying to breach the perimeter fence!
