Train Simulator 2013 - Railsim.

The point is there are already enough locked threads on this subject, I and probably many others are sick of the endless arguments it causes. This is after all a Trainz forum belonging to the Trainz publishers, who I'm sure really appreciate you starting false rumours.

Clam, you need to re read the post, reign your neck in and put your brain in motion before engaging your keyboard. I did not start any rumour, I clearly have stated it came from other forums and 3rd party creators. As for threads being closed out and locked, that is because users like you cannot engage in a conversation without puffing out your nutsak and insulting someone else. What age are u? Four?

I don't know how childish and immature it is to give an honest answer, but you have mine - aside from chronic stability issues and constant maintenance needed to get everything together, if you think of TS2013 Railworks as a "train driving game" it's a very good one, with some fantastic graphics. If you're looking for a train SIMULATOR with realistic physics and operations, it doesn't have anything even close to that.

Reminds me of the old Usenet days........

I think he wanted "mature answers" that said something like... " Oh, I have RW and it is better than sliced bread" or something similar. Friend of mine told me years ago, " When you ask a question, you better be ready to hear an answer you might not like"..........

Next time you leave a reply to a post of mine, don't be so quick to be an asshole. Your response was typical of a gimp!
Nice guy eh?

Oh really, how about some links to those threads where you found this apparently bogus information?

From your post

As Auran are rumored to have no interest in developing TS12 any further

That is you starting a rumour.

Opinions are gonna vary all over the place, for example I'm not that impressed by sliced bread but most people seem to think it's the neatest thing since roller skates. :hehe: Let's copy and paste something from the other forum here;

Back before train simulators I used to buy every new flight simulator that came out. Microprose Gunship! series was a pretty accurate simulation of helicopter flight. NovaLogic Comanche series LOOKED more realistic and had realistic scenery and awesome explosions, but they didn't even bother getting the flight physics in the same county as the real thing. There were very few complaints about NovaLogic billing it as a "simulator" because the majority of the customers had no idea that real helicopters didn't fly that way.

Some (most?) trainz users cruise around in quick drive DCC mode from 200 feet above the train, never playing a session, never paying attention to signals, don't care about real world physics or AI interaction, those people would love railworks since that's what it was made for. Railworks is like Trainz without AI in DCC mode, except it looks prettier.

I think it is obvious at this point, that the OP was just trolling trying to stir the pot. He sure seems to get off on insulting people, and this is after he called other posts on this thread " childish immature responses received above" . What a hypocrite.

If the market doesn't care why should the franchise's improve their games. It is all about eye-candy.

Trainz has the best game engine but I am sure most users could care less.

As a MSTS route vender pointed out to me "most users just want to make screenshots" and could care less about operation.

So, Railworks/Train Simulator 2013 is a train driving game, Trainz is a train simulator. Sounds like two totally different worlds to me. Not mutually exclusive, but certainly not interchangeable. I personally have no interest in Railworks/Train Simulator 2013, as I am up to my eyeballs learning how to fully utilize TS12. I would suggest that anyone interested in Railworks/Train Simulator 2013 simply do as we all do with any game - buy it, test it, let the chips fall where they may. None of us are personally invested in Railworks/Train Simulator 2013 or Trainz, so the purchase of one over the other will not affect our balance sheets.

I returned Railworks TS13 to Walmart, unopened, as it was way too overpriced at $19.95, any and all add-on's were all expensive payware, requiring 100's of dollars to run a route, as I heard it was much too complex to design or alter a route, that framerates were bad, and a high end PC was needed, and that the HUD was always in view, and that derailments were all the time, and that physics was unrealistic ... etc ...

Sticking with Trainz

To those who gave an honest opinion without "ballshakin" thank you, much appreciated.

The childish comment was in relation to those who went "ballshakin"

@Robert, a troll is a user who pops up in a forum, under a false identity to stir the pot as you put it. I don't fit that picture, been here well over a year and would consider myself an honest guy who appreciates the work contributed here from from creators, a person who is active and helpful when I can. What I dont like is self appointed wannabe cantbe real world train drivers insulting me when I ask a simple question. I should be able to do that without being insulted. When I was, I gave back as much as I got. So if that makes me a troll in your little world, I am happy for you.

You are displaying all the behaviours that you are lambasting others for.

Besides, there are plenty of previous threads on here where you can read people's opinion of the other sim, as I'm sure you well know, seeing as how you've been here for a year.

Maybe if you would stop calling people names and trying to insult people for a moment, and think instead, you would realize that your OP starts off by trying to spread a rumor that Auran has no interest in developing any new content for Trainz. I would guess that this info, being that you haven't backed it up with any links, must have come from your crystal ball. After dumping that heap of dung on the forum, then you ask us what we think of railworks. You get quite a few comments stating that they don't think much of railworks at all.

If you have been around this forum for a year as you stated, you should know that any time one of these discussions starts, it winds up in an argument. What kind of response do you think you would get if you got on a forum dedicated to railworks, posted that you "heard" that the people that run railworks are not interested in developing any new products, so you wonder what the members think of Trainz ........On some forums, your post would disappear in a heartbeat. You didn't like some of the comments that followed your OP, when members asked you why you are trying to start yet another thread on this topic, and you start insulting these members, sending them PM's calling them names, like a 10 year old. How about biting the bullet, spend a couple of dollars, buy RW, and see how you like it?

BTW, "shakin" doesn't accomplish very much in my opinion. A good swift kick get's much more attention.

I have, and sometimes use, RailWorks. I bought RW3/Train Simulator 2012 from a store. Spent 2 hours installing. Spent another 3 hours patching, all this was after installing Steam and making a Steam account too. When I ran the game, it turned out to have been upgraded to Train Simulator 2013, so +1 to the Steam system.

Thw game ran well on my mid-range laptop with TSX Mode disabled. Who really needs specks of water on a window anyway?

The physics and graphics are great, a better driving experience than Trainz. UK Train Sim had some Freeware Packs, and those that didn't need payware were downloaded and installed and quickly added lots of UK locos and rolling stock to my collection, as well as another nice route to drive them on.

Despite all this, there are three things that mean I will be sticking with Trainz for a while yet, only venturing into the 'dark side' when I want to do long haul train trips (rarely).

1. Scenario/Route building is a pain! Despite following video tutorials on YT I cannot even build one junction, and on an established route I cannot get one AI train to move any length down the track.
2. Camera view. I do not like the type of free-roam camera view RW has. Someone wanted it in Trainz, what were they thinking! It's horrible to use.
3. Lack of flexibility. The last thing, and the thing that makes me really want to stay with Trainz is the fact that RW doesn't allow things like boats, planes, buses or 1963 VW Beetles to be made or driven. It's also not very well docuented on how to make content. I haven't even found out what programs can be used!

While RW is quite realistic, I won't be making the move any time soon.

Kieran.

Thanks Kieran, very informative reply and I will not be wasting my hard earned dosh on RW. I have been looking at it's reviews and some items on the Pro routes forums where some are upping it, others say dump it. I suppose I was trying to get a feel of other users experiences before I invest in more add ons for TS12.

I take what gaming sites say about the gaming industry as literal as what TMZ says about the entertainment industry. I've also learned to take what a game company says about their own game in the gaming industry with a grain of salt.

Train Simulator 2013 is a coincidentally PERFECT example.. They deem themselves "Award Winning".. And indeed they have won the "Simulator Of The Year" award TWO TIMES in a row!!! Remarkable achievement right???

Not when the site giving out the awards is a site called "Game Industry News" (ever heard of them??? Either have I) that looks like someone tried modernizing a Geocities page from 1997 and you're going up against such blockbuster competition such as....

  • Fate of the World: Tipping Point
  • My Farm Life
  • NASCAR 2011: The Game
  • Wildlife Park Tycoon
  • Food Network: Cook or be Cooked
  • Landit Bandit
  • Ship Simulator Extremes
  • Split/Second
