Track Laying Help Please

Hello,

A few times I have asked for help with regards to track laying in Trainz. Until now I didn't realize I left out a large part of the picture, which is the fact that I am lahying mainly double track.

So my goal is to lay this double track with single track sections of course(who the hell uses "double track" splines lol) straight without the curveness you sometimes get when trainz tries to make a compromise between the two, aswell as how to keep them spaced about consistently for even joins to grade crossings, bridges and other common things like that.

I am using Trainz 2009 to build my route and have heard about these "fixed track sections," but I havn't really been filled in on it.

So any tips at all for track laying, keeping it straight, spline connections, fixed track, DOUBLE track laying etc., please write on this thread.

Multi Track splines are great for initial Straight segments where you use it as a track spacing tool ... I always replace it later on, and never use multi track splines in curves, as they have "whoop-de-doos".

FT (Fixed Track) is for flat baseboards, and flat areas, and can not be set on a gradient.

Two opposing curves (an "S" curve) has a short segment of straight track between them.

A curve has two straight segments on each end.

A very subtle wide radius curve can have many curved spline point circles.

Most curves are best comprised of 3-5 spline points end to end.

All switchs have a short staight segment of "lead in" track.

The Hold/Don't Hold "Shift Key" makes track not to join like magnets.

By zooming in, you can place spline points, that would otherwise not take.

Adding the line: -surveyorfov=125 will enable a far away fish eye view (handy for tracklaying) ... and can be set to the default -surveyorfov=55 at any later time.

How do I add another Baseboard to TS2006

I must be really stupid, I can't for the life of me find how to add another Baseboard. Using TS2006. I've read the book and can't find it!!
Can someone help me before I pull the rest of my hair out

Graham,

Go to the "Topology" tab, and click "Advanced". Then hover over the keys and find the one that places a new baseboard. I can't remember off the top of my head what it is called, and what the button looks like, but I do know that it is in the Advanced tab.

Hope this helps you, before you pull you hair out!:hehe:

By the way, next time you have a problem, either look for a thread that answers your question, or start your own, rather than digging up an old one.

Another warning on fixed track

As a noob, I used fixed track segments as an easy way to lay track neatly. And has been said earlier, they are for use in flat areas only.

But over time I have seen cases where the connecting track which may have elevation changes affects the fixed track segment such that one end becomes a different elevation than the other, so you may have to relevel that fixed track object. Otherwise your trainz will bounce around somewhat.

If you look at the built-in routes in Trainz, I believe you will not see much, if any, use of fixed track. Over time, I'm getting rid of them and making more use of the proper placement of spline points and the track straightening tool. I'm not there yet, but I'm getting better.

Don't know if it helps but in TC3 the button in "Topology" you need is simply called expand.
