TOPSIG iPortaling

Welcome Bluerail, what railroad will you be representing? So far we have CSX, NS, PRR, UP, DRGW, ATSF and Great Northern. JIb228 will let you know all the particulars and assign you a position in the mix. I assume you have read the OP, we have a spread sheet that contain commodities consume/produce so we can plan on train consists. I believe we have a TeamSpeek server that we can use also.

iPortaling is fun and none of us have our routes finished just like a model railroad is it ever done!

Im looking at Chicago and Illinois Midland, finding kuids for the engines has been fun. one site by B.D. Neal filled in all the missing stuff for the steam just have to find the SD-38's missing kuids now.
Yea I read the spreadsheet and downloaded the consist 2 to make sure I had everything. Since Im in the design phase of my route I figured I could help pick up some of the slack for products that need produced/consumed(within reason)
which version of Teamspeak? 2 or 3?
I had a version of my route 3 years ago but a computer failure wiped it our :( rebuilding it will take forever :)

If you want to use bens steamers there is a CDP that contains 14 of those steamer and they are TS12 compatable. Not sure if we are going to use them for iPortal exchanging as of yet.

As for Team Speak it is version 3. Concerning equipment I will get back to you on that after I hear from JIb.

GN1996,

I tried downloading your consist data at the above ling and it says i need permission.

I changed the setting on the link so it is theoretically public now. I may have also accidentally e-mailed it to your Gmail. I have quite a bit to learn with Gmail yet.

Welcome aboard Bluerall! We're glad to have another person join us.

Also, to anybody intersted: an aluminum plant is still needed as I produce bauxite and Charles and I both consume aluminum ingots.

I will be setting up a Aluminum plant, but i will need those shipments of Bauxite. Welcome Bluerail. I am also looking forward to the full run on the posible 29th date.

GN1996 I have places to put INDs at, just let me know what is needed?(comsume/Product) Right now i have 12 INDs not set up and at least 6 more places to add INDs too.
Anybody can use the Thompson and Western File Brower to put CDPs,Rolling stock list,Product List, & Comsume List and everyone can download them.
It best that lists are in PFD format. Most people can print them.
TeamSpeak 3,@ 24.34.133.237 right click on the little green box before the name Thompson & Western.
Hay can i make a sugession here? use only cars for the product you produce. Do not send empty cars to be filled.
I put a list of the product i produce and the cars & Kuid #s in TeamSpeak File Brower

I am not available on Wednesdays so the 29th is not good for me.

Well then, lets move it to the 1st of June. Ill be busy the weekend before. Also, as for my request you'd just be in charge for gathering up all the assets that every one wants, rolling stock and locomotive wise and making a set of constist files like I did. Then redistributing those files to every one.

Ok, I think I have said this once, twice, 15 times now. We have a produce consume list and PDF's are a bad idea. Why? If I make a change on mine, no one see's it until I upload it, then they download it, and then view it. Where as the Google doc page is instant. If I update even one letter in one grid, every one see's it with in 30 seconds of my change. Also Danny, I know you have said you cant edit the Google doc, send me a PM with jsut he names of the products you produce and consume and Ill fill in the Google doc for you.

Id like to say no to this and here's why, but I do have one agreement on it. I consume both Sodium Sulfate and Sodium Chlorate which come in covered hoppers. But I have no industry that loads these cars. If I didn't ever send out empty's then after a while I would have yards full of empty covered hoppers. And, if we do this the way I hope we do, there would quickly become a shortage of covered hoppers.

BUT, I will agree with it a little. If you do have a car that you can load with a product, then you could load it if you want. For example, I consume Lumber and produce Pipe Loads. I could get a flat car of lumber and unload it, then send it empty back out on the road. Or I could send it to get loaded on my route with pipe loads. Or maybe Danny, you consume goods, and produce auto parts. You could unload the goods, then turn around and load up some auto parts. Or send it out empty to get more goods.

And rememeber, part of the way this works is your not send a train to some one. Your sending it to every one. Now to explain this idea a bit, lets build an imagery train. B's represent box cars, F's flat cars, T's tank cars, and A's auto racks, capital's mean loaded, lower case means empty. And L means locomotives. I build a train with 10 loaded auto racks. Train looks like this.

AAAAAAAAAAL

Now I look at the order of things and I see that Ken is next in line, so i send this train to him. Ken dose not need automobiles, but Ken adds 5 loaded box cars.

BBBBBAAAAAAAAAAL

Ken send that train to GN who does not need goods or automobiles, but he adds 1 Empty flat car.

fBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAL

GN sends it to James who dose not need automobiles, but needs goods. So he takes off the box cars, and adds 3 Loaded Tank cars.

fTTTAAAAAAAAAAL

James send the train to Danny. Danny needs 8 automobiles and 1 tank car. Danny also adds 6 loaded box cars.

fTTBBBBBBAAL

Danny next send the train to Charles, who takes the last 2 autoracks and adds 4 more loaded box cars, 4 empty box cars.

BBBBfbbbbTTBBBBBBL

Next Charles sends the the trian back to me. Seeing as it was my locomotive, I know its my own train so I terminate it. (By this I mean I park the locomotive, take the apart and build a new one. This does lead to the possible idea of making train lists. So when a train arrives to your route, you might have a specific set of cars to add and remove. But to do this, I would need to know who produces and consumes what. And every thing would need a start and end location.)

Ive put Trainsim back in the roster.

Danny, still waiting on that PM about what you produce and consume.

And Ive sent Ken a PM with my content.

Ive been putting a lot of thinking into advanced operations and want to at least share my thoughts so far.

As it stands right now, when we start well just be tossing trains out there in hopes that some one will take or add cars to it. While this is easy and will work, it is not prototypical. What I'm thinking is making up train numbers/orders. They would list what cars the train must have and what cars must be added/removed at each stop. (A stop being each of us.)

An example would be this: D738 originates on my route. I have to add 15 loaded auto racks, 4 empty tank cars, 1 empty bulkhead flat car, and 10 empty box cars. When it gets to Ken its still D738. Ken would look at its list and see that he must add 6 loaded box cars of tires, remove 5 of the empty box cars, and add 6 loaded steel coil cars. Now D738 goes to the next player and they look at their set of instructions, and so on and so on until D738 reaches me. Where I take it apart and remake D738.

Now each one of us would have our own train orders that we would have to get started. So Id have to build and send out D783, Ken would build P500, GN would build BNSF15 and so on. (I dont know what these railroads use for train symbols. I just made them up as I go. Other then the CSX one. (D738 is the Levoina to Plymouth turn))

This is just an idea, and I want to get it out there for you all to see what I'm thinking.

If we did implement this, you would know what to get ready and what to do with the cars on your route. But to implement it, I would need to know how many of each car/load you need. I wont as for this just now, but try to get an idea of the numbers you need. (For example, if you need goods, take a light guess as to how many you need.)

Symbolic trains would be good, I could dig through my doc and come up with an authentic one for PRR, just would need to figure out were you are in relationship to me but I will assume west (Ohio somewhere)

OK I need equipment lists including engines, f-cars, p-cars and a wish list for future equipment. I have about 1/2 of them (still need to do my own after I fix my PC).

Hello Everyone,

Charles34 and I did some testing tonight with non default consist and found we could send a non default consist through iPortal. Something I had heard was not posable before, which should make it easier for us to select and set cars for the upcoming iPortal sessions.
