TOPSIG iPortaling

Just a quick question, what time period are you in. Yes I did read that you are doing auto racks so I am assuming modern. I may be intersted in joining as an eastern RR.

Yes, KenRouf, the sessions are somewhat curent. The last MRL version had anything from RS1s and GP30s to SD40-2s and Dash-9s. I believe this version will be very close to the last one. The last version did have a steam engine, but I believe it was meant as a steam excursion. Please consider joining us and there are still 2 iportals open to claim. Just send a PM to Jib228 of the location you want, railroad you'll use, and 4 engines you plan to use. There is a list of iPortals on Jib's first post on this thread.

I tend to treat MP sessions as Modem, but with older power still in use. So MRL will be modern, but that dose not lmit you to what era you want to chose to represent. We have Danny who is ATSF, and GN who is BN. Both of which became BNSF, that Jhuravitch is representing. But if you wanted to say model 1900's, and run that style of stock that is all fine by me. You just have to remember that you might get a train that has modem rolling stock.

Remember, you have YOUR route that can be what ever you want it to be. Then there is OUR route that is MRL. But I am 100% OK with running what ever on MRL if its what you guys want to run on YOUR routes. If you do chose to model an different era then Modem, or you have specific cars that you want to use, send me a PM with them in there. Limit 5 cars per person though.

And in other news, the MRL route update is 99% to where I want to get it to MRL 3.0. I still have a few industries to set up, and I still need to finish my industry list. The session is 75% done. I might need to add some more rolling stock, or I might just pull all the cars off and replace them in a better/smarter scene.

One thing I have been informed of with the iPortals is that not all users might see the trains. I have a plane to keep the idea of a more organized, prototypical iPortal system going if we do have or notice too many problems.

What I have done on my layout and it might help with others is to have an inbound and out bound iportal to keep trains from colliding

I have a iportal added everytime someone signs up and name the iportal that person, and set it for trains to go to him if needed.
So i have a MRL 2 Kazick
I need Iportal ID for charles34,jhuravitch,gn1996,jemesfaa.

No need Danny.

Here's and image to help visualize what Im trying to set up:

Black lines form box to box represent portals and how they are linked ot every one. Boxes with numbers represent individuals routes. The box titled MRL represents MRL. A train in box 1 can go to box 3, but must pass through MRL. At a latter date, if we get this working, we could have a second group start up with their own routes and main hub route. The link their hub route to ours ether via one of the other routes as pictured here, or directly to MRL. Like this, all trains are made available to every one. Rather then sending a coal train from route 3 to route 5 bypassing every one else. I also makes things more interesting.

Besides, this is still a multiplayer session, not just iPortaling each other. Also, it makes it more realistic and true for the session. My understanding is that we send a few trains to the MRL, but we join the multiplayer session for the main part of our time to move trains to their destinations of industries or other routes. Great example image Jib. Thanks for clearing that up.

I also think everyone should make a list of industries on their route for others configure loads and consists. Seperate the consumed and the produced on the list. For instance, my route produces coal and maybe other routes might have a power station or coal consuming industry. It would be nice to know the possible destinations for anyone that might be driving a consist supplied by my portal. Just an idea.

Also, jhuravitch and I have tested that loads that are user-configured in surveyor will not stick with the car when transferred via iPortal. When the car is configured to actually be carrying the configured load through the portal, the load will go through, but the car will remain as though it wasn't configured to carry the load. So if I were to send a configured load on a car to jhuravitch, he could unload the car, but that particular commodity could not be loaded onto that car again.

Thats why in the MRL session I am placing cars that by default load what is produced or consumed on MRL. Also, I have made a few PL industries that are uploaded to the DLS all ready that will load some of what Davesnows cars load. This way we can use his rolling stock.

But yes, if you make a list of what your rotue produces and consumes, that wil help us greatly.

I knew that you did that Jib and your actions were just being justified by testing. Unfortunately, even though Dave's cars look awesome, they have slightly larger file sizes. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person without an FCT, so people in the same boat as me are going to have a hard time with that.

As for what my route will produce/consume, I am sure of only one thing so far. Now, before I say more, this commodity is prototypical for MRL. On my route, I will have a Boeing 737 fuselage manufacturing plant! Hopefully somebody is willing to have an aluminum plant on their route and another person will have a bauxite producing industry. If nobody puts the latter of the industries on their route, I will put one on mine. I am also going to try and put an intermodal facility in. Products will include the containers and trailers. I will edit this as other people list what they have, and as I figure out some other projects of mine.

*in my whiny voice* But I have an FTC....why doesn't any body else?

But yea, Ill have a list of what MRL produces and consumes, as well as where what industries are soon. And in nice spread sheet form! I will also try to make a spread sheet of who produces and consumes what.

So far for me I produce:
Automobiles
Auto Parts

I consume:
Auto Parts (I consume more then I produce)
Steel Coil
Vegetable oil
(One other thing that I know is not good if you eat but is in soap that I cant think of right this moment....(This link is to the companys web site. It should even be the Wixom plant's details. http://www.korex-us.com/syscap.html ))
Goods
Telephone Poles (This one I might remove. I doubt any one else will think to produce there. Then again, I dont think there is an industry set to load them.)

And more to come in both as I work on my route. I know I have pipe in there some where, but I dont remember if I produce it or consume it. Its late as I post this, Im tired, and my brain has clocked out for the day. I spent this afternoon, after working my Tuesday Thursday job, playing KSP. Plans are to work on MRL and Saginaw Sub tomorrow....all day.....with the high potential of a live stream.

Could I just mention one thing to bear in mind when deciding which commodities to use. There is an ongoing MP problem where clients are unable to load certain commodities. For example there are several Commodities in UMR SUMMER REVISITED that I cannot load as a client. Ikea pallets and Canned Tomatoes spring to mind. I have narrowed the cause down to the rail Vehicle not the Industry. I found a eastern European open wagon that will load all commodities in game using the "select commodity" option. However in practice the benefits are limited. Any commodity that does not have a picture such as anything on pallets will not load . Cement and Scrap work ok. None of the Grain products will load. There are a number of commodities that are built into the wagon that work of course. The other stumbling block is that the maximum amount of items is very low, 4 at best.

Hmmm.... Commodities.... Commodities.... Ah there are a few....
On a serious note. I produce at least the following. Coal, bauxite, cars, pipes, wood, coke coal, girders, containers (20 - 53ft, TOFC, and some others I need to check on. I consume much the same. I will make a mor comprehensive list later. ( when I get home).

I understand what Cleve talking about.
Now I can Consume = General Goods,coal,general autoparts,steel coil,lpg,diesel fuel,and logs.(also can product them)
I product = Cat.D11R,Blade D11R,Blade & frame for Cat.D11R,Bauxite,Roadstone,Gravel Crushed,Iron Ore,Plastic Pipe,
Plastic Granulor,Cement & pipe product.
So let me know if i can send you a product or if there a product you would like to send me via MRL.
Now all my INDs are ProtoLars so it may take a day or two to send them back.
Lets have one person produing a product (such as coal)and he be the only one to send coal to everybody.(again via MRL)
One more thing with MRL being up 24/7 we will have no problems with someone not being on line.
The way i understand it you send your train to MRL and when ready you send it back to yourself.(now you must go back to your route and create the train, when you close you must save the driving session.)

Yes Danny is right. SAVE YOUR SESSIONS!

Also, mostly done with MRL. So I am giving every one till Friday to submit to me any locomotives or rolling stock you would like to see in the session.

Well my main (almost only) thing I produce is coal, but I have a few smaller industries set up at a long distance from the iPortal. (simple route at the moment)
I consume:
Wood chips, Centerbeam loads (any kind really), General goods, and Automobiles.

With everything coming together, may I ask to everyone: How close is everyone to being ready for the first session? I know downloading might be a slow thing for some (I'm fine, have a FCT) but just to get an idea of when we all are ready do this. Thanks.

Is it possible to iportal from TS12 to the mac version? If so, I'm in. If not, well i'm not in, cause my TS12 is so laggy.

I don't believe so. IPortal on Trainz 12 doesn't even work with other versions of Trainz like 09 or 10. I don't think the mac version would work. It can be tested though just to be sure. But again, I have my doubts. I'm sorry to hear that your Trainz 12 is that way.

OK I'm in as the east end (north eastern railroad PRR, sent PM's to JIb228), I have a lot of work to do on the route I am going to use but it should be interesting. The most difficult thing I have found so far is picking equipment that is TS12 compatable and on the DLS. Also if anyone is interested in doing passenger traffic I'm in since I have access to many big eastern cities (in theory).

First few comodities I will look into producing are coal, wood and steel (Pittsburgh and Bethlehem) then go from there.

Ken
