Is there a way to change the ruler scale from feet to miles?

No ... As the ruler can't bend around curves, the "Miles" ruler would just be way too rough of a measurement, and would not be of any use, as the crow flies measurement

You can only change the ruler from Metric to Imperial in the 'Edit Route' menu. You will just need to do the math 5280 feet is one mile.

It might be easier visually to use Metric as 1000 meters is one Kilometer. Just determine how many miles, convert to kilometers then measure, then change back to Imperial.
