Too many textures - How do I delete unused ones?

I have accumulated 679 ground textures in the process of downloading many maps at the start of my introduction into Trainz. Obviously I don't need them all, who would? I would like to delete them all, but save them in a folder so that Trainz can find the 'missing assets' and upload them again.

Anyone know the shortcut to doing all this please, as I could go the long-way-round, knowing me. I'm hoping that I can delete them at a stroke without having to go through thousands of folders in the 'Download' folder. I thought of doing a search in Explorer for 'groundtexture' and hope that would pick them, but it would still be a chore opening what the search unvieled. Cheers Dave.

Trainz Objectz can do what you are after. Fire up Trainz Objectz, select the ground textures category, or any other category's you want. Select Menu > 'Check for unused objects'. This will then check your maps for any unused objects and highlight them in blue, right click on one of the highlighted objects and go selection > archive selected objects. TO should then make an archive and when checking a map for missing dependencies in TO you can tell it to also check the archive for the missing items.

A slight variation on what Rob said.

Rather than archive textures, I use Trainzobjectz to sort out which textures I want to keep, then to assign the remainder into a category (actually a "Region") called Unwanted.

The advantage for me is that, while I know not to use them myself, they are still active in case a route I download needs them. That way Trainz still sees them and I don't get the old "missing textures" message which would require a special search of the archives.

[Actually I have 2 categories for dud textures; Unwanted is for those I just don't like the look of. Duplicates is for textures that are obvious rip-offs of some that already exist. I try to only use originals, based on their date of uploading to the DLS).]

If you are using Trainz 04 then TO will do these things for you.
But TO does not work with 06 and I have no idea how it can be done, perhaps you can open the Assets list in CMP and remove unwanted textures to an archive that you can make with a suitable name tag.

I will follow this thread with interest

I don't have those problems since, I don't down load "dependencies" when I down load a layout. Except for layouts and rolling stock I download nothing.
Well... I did download the Sunol station and of coarse Linda but that is all.
Why do I do that? In the beginning, way back when, I decided to avoid just those sort of problems by using only stuff that came with the current version of Trainz.
Yes I do have to replace some missing stuff. Some times even all the track and Las Vegas just is not right with out the 3rd party stuf but I don't regret the decision.
