Tobacco advertising and images

Just when is this going to stop,
do you next ban all textures relating to alcohol (pubs included) due to a very large portion of the world banning its consumption so therefore its advertising,
then you ban all textures relating to pig products due to an even larger portion of the population that can't go near it,
then you ban all textures and products relating to ALL meat/poultry because it might upset Vegetarians,
or how about banning wood products because it could be seen as promoting forest clearing.

Lets face it, if you are going to rewrite history to suite what you believe will not offend ANYONE then you turn history into a fairy tale with no factual information whatsoever.

History is just the facts of what happened, not a statement about what happened.

And in reference to the topic (cigarette smoking), even the tv/film industry still portray people smoking because in real life people do and did.

I for one think that the content is fine, and should keep coming. I'm not going to go out and buy a pack just because I saw a billboard in Trainz. Keep them, and keep them coming. Ok, I've thrown in my two cents.

While I do not smoke, I believe it is my choice to not go in a facility if it is smoking. I also believe that if your smoking bothers me I can ask you politely not to smoke or I can leave. It is fine to advertise as I can make the choice for myself and I can teach my children about not smoking. I do not need a busy-body with no life telling me what is politically correct.

13 here, and I don't care one way or the other. While I think that tobacco products should be destroyed, I can't see much evidence that pictures of it drastically promote the production and sale of it.

I'm offended my almost nothing...

option c is good i think i can decide whether or not i want tobacco ads on my routes.
but if a person from marlboro mad things intentionally as ads and stuff it should be taken off, for example a loco called the "marlboro express" with logos on the side that advocated smoking and thing like that

as a plus i dont smoke and think that its a horrible habit, and it smells bad....

It is absolutly ridiculous that someone thought of banning tobacco/alcohol scenery items. It is almost as bad as the whole railcar gaffiti ordeal.....

Here we go again lets make it a politically correct fluffy world OPTION C for ME! as with most of us ! have a look at your 06 all the brand names were removed before release all assets were changed that were included .

If you want more info on the Hemp case, try to find a doco called "The Hemp War" - it explains how the US Govt between the world wars banned the cultivation of hemp after pressure from a certain large textiles (among other products) company. During WW2 they realised they needed hemp for the rope used by the navy so cultivation suddenly resumed, but once the war ended, the flame throwers came out and the hemp industry suddenly ended again.

As a 17 year old, I can say that I do not and will not smoke. This is by my choice, and seeing some ads in a route will not make me want to smoke. Authenticity of routes is important, and I really dont think that any person playing this game would see a billboard in trainz and decide to go out and buy a pack of tobbaco or cigerrets. I go for c, let them stay and let more come, makes no difference to me.

smoking/alcohol - umm i have no problems with these being used on trainz - this isnt a place where random people come to look what being advertised. I look at it this way - basd on things in uk. I type in lloyds because i would like a bank on my layout (world) not because i want people to see the bank and think. "hey i like the look of this bank i think i will get a debit card with them. I wouldnt and a lot of other people i imagine wouldnt take a second glance to see it as advertising, it just an object that we like on our layouts because we see them from day to day. I dont like smoking but i wouldnt hesitate to put a banner on my layout of cigarette packets or wat ever is used . Talking on the subject of what should be allowed in trainz content - a few moons ago somebody wanted to create nazi flags on some wagon they were making - this half in the wrong box but just as a suggestion maybe an outside site could support this sort of controversial stuff but have to sign up to special agreement to get it - and be warned of what it may contain. (scary ) - i choose c

Most kids (like me) usually take D.A.R.E. so they prob. wont smoke, and if their gonna, probably not from a game.

Perhaps content creators or those who check the assets before they are uploaded could put warning labels on them before they are sent to the DLS. This would give the downloader a heads-up on the content of the object, thus they will make a choice for themselves whether or not they wish to download the item.

Well taking up smoking b/c of trainz is one thing but advertising just because of asset creators is another. Like we have the default Steve Irwin Billboard in TRS2004 and TRS2006. Steve will be missed.

im not sure if this contradicts what i said before but:
if one was to ban tobacco ads (stuff) then someone else would complain 'bout another "thing" and we'd have a vote on that. this would go on and on and on, eventually we'd be left with three generic, unlabeled locomotives (steam,diesel, and electric) about 25 unlabeled pieces of rolling stock, 5 textures, 150 buildings and my list goes on. we would get into the advertising for companies garbage, and then trainz would die as a content CREATION, game and be as boring as railroad tycoon (the first one on the floppy disk)

is this poll necessary??? or are we just subjecting our game to "political correctness" it will kill the game just as it is killing the United States, and United Kingdom (thank god Australia is doing something about the radical (bold so people dont think i'm racist against all Muslims, im not)Muslims. the assimilate with Australians or go back to your country, i believe the same thing for people who come to the U.S. you came to live in America, to live like us, so learn English and become like us... I'm one who reviles smoking, along with certain smokers who have scant regard for those around them, but really......common sense must prevail - +1 to option C.

What next??.....can't label any object, locomotive, rolling stock pertaining to colour as black??......how about removal of churches??

Auran....whilst a degree of correctness is essential, please, please, please, don't head down the ridiculously over-politically correct path.

Echoing comments from others here, I am a non-smoker and actually cannot stand the smell of cigarette smoke, however tobacco advertising is part of both history and modern-day life and to censor it I think would be wrong. Not least within a simulator such as TRS which has the flexibility to allow people to recreate scenes with astounding accuracy. Much like the graffiti and swastika debates there will be people with strong views on either side, however
I think most of us are mature enough (and old enough!) to decide for ourselves what we download. If a route contains an asset we don't agree with, the delete key is our humble servant.

If the current system has worked with no complaints, why change it?

As Trainz history has shown, nearly every time Auran has decided to introduce some radical shakeup and change everything without much agreement, many arguements ensue with many good people heading off for other pastures.

I really hate to sound harsh, we as a whole community have put in many more hours making content for this game than Auran ever have.
This is a community game, and when it starts to get over policed, people get very angry.
The more I think about it, the more this poll irritates me; mostly that the notion even has to be raised. This however, IS about the most democratic thing I've seen from this big company of late.

I would personally rather have something with more significance to vote on.

Too true, but on the other hand, human society likes to blame objects or individuals that aren't directly related to the actual incident, only because they can see the cheap way out or some are just soo closed minded to accept the real outcome.

This is why Alan asks, because it is a very difficult position, it only takes one lawsuit to change everything and discourage the community.

Looking up a wikipedia article (no article mention) explains that between tasteless imagry and tasteful art iself is a very fine line and often the subject of debate over some imagrey, it is soo true for everything, for what you find tacky and not worth a post, some individuals see it as a work of art.



So, given me the chance of authenicity or censorship, I'd prefer to choose the former, although, I'd sit on the fence for a while as community backlash is not what I want.
