I have built a custom TANE route for the last 4 years and have finally purchased TRS. I am anxious about converting the route to TRS based on past upgrades that didnt go well. I tried searching on conversion but got the usual sorry no matches.

is there a subforum of group that could provide tips and tricks for conversion. i have a large number of clones and modified kuids so am concerned about clean up prior to conversion. Also steps to be taken post conversion for smooth operations

thanks for any help

Tips/Tricks

Thanks for the link Bob, as it was informative.

I have a large route totally covered in 2d ground cover. Question is it worth removing ground cover under track and roads (splines) prior to conversion? Since I am going to have to add 3d textures, anyways, will this reduce spline issues on conversion?

Also sounds like removing any scenery splines prior would be a good idea.

re track, I use TUME-TW-Gravel-Clean as it is seasonal and aa good representation of 1901 track. Since not procedural I am hoping to be able to leave in place.

lastly you dont mention clones or modified kuids, any advice on these?

thanks

I don't remove 2D textures. I replace them in place using the Bulk Asset Update/Replace function in Surveyor. Just remember that 2D textures don't mix well with 3D PBR textures that use parallax (ie; height), so be sure to replace all the old 2D textures. How to make sure you got them all? Get and print off dependency list of the textures for your route using the Content Manager.

Splines are not an issue if you use some functionality in Surveyor that came after my original thread on the subject. See this YouTube video link:

Although I think procedural track is the best choice for appearance and realism, use whatever track you want. Just be aware that in some track and roads a 3D texture might pop up through it if the height of the road or track bed isn't thick enough. Consider replacing roads that aren't thick enough with roads that are, such as mine.

TurfFx is neat but make sure you review this link before using it:

https://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php/TurfFX_Effect_Layer

I am not sure what you mean by "clones or modified kuids" but if you want to replace existing items use Bulk Asset Update/Replace function in Surveyor. If there has been an update of an item you have previously used and the base Kuid of the item is the same then updating will be handled automatically in Surveyor when you load the route into the editor. Example: old item = <kuid:439337:107346> new item = <kuid2:439337:107346:1>

Finally, expect to do some cleanup around track and road splines after replacing the textures.

I dislike the moire distortions of procedural track. One of the only advantages of it is showing the points change. Just my opinion. If you like the track you have, then leave it as is.

Pencil42 has some procedural TRS19 track and matching ballast that is appropriate for the first half of the 20th century on the Download Station (DLS). Just search for his username 'Pencil42' on the DLS. Also, if you have cloned or modified other content, and then import it into TRS19 from TANE, it might be faulty in TRS19 and not be faulty in TANE, due to TRS19's more rigorous error-checking.
