Tips please on setting screen resolutions for widescreen

I like circles which are round - not squashed or stretched and I like to run in fullscreen mode.

When I run TS2010 in anything other than a resolution with an aspect ratio of 4:3, my picture is squashed or stretched horizontally.

The native resolution of my monitor is 1440x900 which has an aspect ratio of 16:10.

I know a lot of you guys run in a widescreen format - are your circles round or flattened?

No matter how I set the screen resolution and aspect ratio in the startup options, if it is not 4:3 my circles are not round. Any tips on how to set up widescreen and get round circles.

Did you try autodetect?

Yes, I have tried auto detect and alternatively setting the aspect ratio to match the resolution but circles still not round.

I do not alter the default resolution in the trainzoptions.txt file or in the Nvidia control panel since setting it in the startup options screen does change the resolution.

I have just discovered that my monitor has an autodetect setting which may be overriding the Trainz settings. I do not have a manual for the monitor but I will try to find out how to disable this tomorrow.

Thanks

Hi Scottish,

I don't know what graphics card you have or if this may help you ,but on my GeForce GT430 in NVIDIA Control Panel on Adjust Desktop size and position it has a box to tick -OVERRIDE the scaling mode set by games and programs.....maybe ticking or unticking may help you???

I run Trainz on a 52 inch screen (which i had to mess about with)so if i can get it you should by all means be able to..

Hope this helps in some way

Thanks Brad.

My card is a Nvidia GT240 with DDR5 memory. Although I think it uses the same driver as yours if you are on XP, I do not have the checkbox you mention. It might be a different driver if you use Windows 7.

Not to worry, I was only curious to see how Trainz looked in widescreen but I can stick with a 4:3 aspect resolution.

Try changing the setting in Trainzoptions to match your monitors default resolution. You can always change it back if necessary, Trainz looks a lot better in wide screen.
