Tips for a backcomer, mainly versions

Hello,

i played in 2009 and am just about to come back, am thinking about the latest version, which is as i understand TANE ... ?
Well i got a laptop with windows 7 (am mainly under linux but preserved a win-partition for a few games ;-)), i7 2.2ghz, 16gb ram (probably limited under windows ?), nvidia gtx570 with 1,5gb video ram. Would that suffice ?
Can i just download and play or do i need a connection to play (steam or something) ? Assuming no multiplayer. This is probably a dumb question but i had cases where i realized too late that an open internet connection was needed.
And last question pls.: there are different packages on simulation central but somehow i'm too thick to see the difference: that's TANE SP1, a Collectors Edition and a Deluxe Edition. What's the difference ?

Thanks for any quick help !

Hi,

Welcome to the community and welcome back to Trainz :) .

TANE is indeed the latest version.
TANE is 64bit, so will require a 64bit version of Windows on PC or a similar 64bit version for Mac. As a result, it can use those 16gb (not limited to 4gb as older, 32bit versions of Windows).
TANE comes in multiple versions. The main difference is the amount of built-in routes. Those you do not get can be bought, but at a higher price in total then getting them all at once (of course).
TANE does not require a constant internet connection. I hear it "phones home" once a month, but since I am always online I never notice.

I am no hardware expert, so I can't help you with the other things.
