Tiny Trainz

No, it's Not. There have been far Worse Ideas, both in the realms of Political and Otherwise. I'm not going to delve into any though.

Some of you People are SERIOUSLY OVERREACTING
I argue this point.
Yes, there have been far worse ideas, however there are other priorities at Auran, at least in my opinion.
How about instead of releasing a simulator (or game for this matter...) every year just to get the Auran name out there...develop a simulator that actually works right, has what we need rather than useless years old paint shed reskins that nobody uses.
How about some real content, some that rivals RailSimulator's default content.
(Which I actually thought was very good.)
How about some new cabs for the engines...all of them.
More than five new items in the new releases, yes I realize it takes time, but take some time then!
Update an aging DLS, get rid of this bogus newsletter that only exists in rumors anymore.
Whatever happened to Trainz On The Road?
How about doing more to make Trainz public, I know several people who are train sim users who have never even heard of Trainz!
Get rid of all the cheap United States content, make it at least as nice as the Australian content, why does this seem biased to me?
When I purchased Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006, the first thing I noticed was cheap, useless US content...but nice, detailed Australian Content, what a surprise, Auran is Australian based.
Get us some better routes, get rid of Black Forest, it was lousy and outdated, the same goes for Electric Commuter.
Robe River Iron should have been on the DLS, something better could have taken it's place, sure it's nice if you like running 100 car ore trains over virtually nothing for 4 hours.
Razorback Railway was the highlight of 2006 in my opinion, it was very well organized and neatly done, nice sessions and content.
IberTrainz was no different, very well done with great detail and content.
Marias Pass approach was highly enjoyable but needed better locomotives to use, thanks once again to Auran's wonderful SD40...
TTR was exceptional, but still outdated, track wise, which thank God Auran finally fixed, to an extent.
I'm tired of seeing Auran using (or stealing as I have heard at times...) content made by third party creators.
How about some stuff actually made by Auran? That is good?

Auran really needs to put some sort of weblink to Trainz Resources Directory in the game itself, I never new sites like RRMods, Jointed Rail and WoT existed when I bought the game...here's the real kicker, I actually thought Phil's SD70 was made by Auran...what a joke!:hehe:
It would be great if we could get some sort of connection to TRD, I recommend that because Johnk has built an excellent site that far exceeds anything Auran could ever make.
I appreciate what Auran has done by making the basis to this game, but they need to get on the ball and update it, or else Trainz will be on a dead end road to it's grave.

How many times have we had to swallow that tired, old prophecy of doom....Trainz was set up from the beginning to be 3 party supplied....long before you appeared....

I've got mixed feelings about this one...

Firstly, from a business perspective, diversification is absolutely the right thing to do, and expanding the Trainz brand is a good idea as well.

I'm not so sure, though, that this idea has what it takes for long term playability. I recall the floor based toy train layouts of my infancy, and even at the time, I knew that the real thing (or a decent simulation of it) was a great deal more interesting. At the age of 6 or 7 I'd have thrown my toy trains in the bin for a copy of Trainz (if it had existed). I even recall fantasising about such a computer program in my early teens.

I'm sure it will shift a fair few copies, and keep selling for a few years, and I suspect that they won't have bet the farm on this in the same way that they did with Fury. More to the point, we don't actually know if this is an in-house or external development, and whether it has it's own resources allocated.

Personally I'm surprised that Auran have not released a game that capitalises on what they already have in terms of the Jet engine, surveyor, and community involvement. What about a motor racing game that allowed you to design and build your own circuits or rally stages for instance?

Anyway, I can't see this being either the golden goose or the albatross...

I have read your post, well said!

One very small point, it would be easier to read if it was not one closely typed paragraph, that could put people off reading it.

Sorry, I don't understand all the negativity.

A simplified version of Trainz so younger fans can enjoy all that we find enjoyable about rail sims. Sounds like a great idea to me. Just hope they make it so its not as overwhelming as Trainz can be as far as content and errors go.

All this whinning because they aren't working on YOUR priorities is pretty scary. Granted some of the points here may be valid but way off the mark as far as a new sim for kids is concerned.

Complaining about a new release that doesn't suit your purpose is pretty childish. While I have no use for Tiny Trainz I wish them the best of luck with it and I hope it brings a lot smiles to a lot of younger faces.

Dave.....

I think Smileyman was spot on, It really comes down to price hopefully it will get them enough money to maybe make us a good route pack so who knows. But Auran does seem to have a track record of releasing games too early so will see.

I have just found a game that I have had for many years. Its called Train Town, the virtual Lionel train game. I remember playing it when I was 5-7 years old. It was developed by Sierra. They are no longer around as far as I can find. But there game Train Town as far as I know did vary well. So there just might be a market for Tiny Trainz. Lets just hope they market the game right as well as distribute it in stores. It should be distributed in stores because if they want little kids to buy it, the little kids have to see it.

I don't care what any of you think. I have my own opinion and that will be stated below.

Tiny Trainz is a complete waste of time and money. It makes MUCH more sense to focus on current problems with Trainz rather than creating a program for little children.

Little children can have fun with Trainz and parents can download stuff for them like this Thomas stuff:

Ronayne, if I may ask. When we all die, who will be the people playing Trainz if Auran does not create a game that gets kids interested in Trainz who will play?

Answerer: No one, so than there want be a Trainz or a DLS.

WAKE UP RONAYNE!

I see you added to your post, so I will to. How many parents do you think are going to want to sit there next to there kid for an hour trying to teach them a program that some adult Trainz members don't even get sometimes.

But not all parents would be willing to learn to fix a game they themselves do not want to use. They would rather go buy something simpler.

JRT: a little to fast for me haha

I guess that we could say that we don't care what you think either, but most of us aren't that childish. I'll keep watching for something intelligent to come forth.

You guys are right so I guess well have to wait and see. But the DLS does need a good overhaul. Its been on the decline it seems and even Auran seemed to abandon the clean up when TRS 2009 came out which they said and planned to do.

Im curious to see if auran links this new game with the exsisting trainz community. Somehow, I don't see very many thrilled parents thumbing through pages of technical support for trainz just to find out how to install their game.

@JRT: before I found this game, I had another extremely simple program that used a paint feature to allow u to draw lines that served as tracks. It then let you place cars and locomotives onto the track and drive ussing a dcc control. The whole thing was set on a top veiw, and most of the cars were simple microsoft paint designs. the most that you would have would be maybe an amtrak stripe on top of the cars:hehe:

Why all the hub-bub about this little game?
I'm sure Auran does studies before they release games to determine the probable market and such. People smarter than you or I are getting paid well to decide if the release will be worthwhile or not...

Lets just hope its not the same people who said that Fury was going to become the next World of Warcraft.
