Time for Update

That shimmering thing sounds like an old problem with a limit of polygons in the Jet engine
(sort of like throwing away some polygons at the edge of viewing distance from one frame to another, in order to raise the speed of redrawing).

Maybe you should check in Trainz options file and raise the polygon limit of the graphics engine?
(sorry I don't know the exact syntax)

The description sounds like a CPU limit to me
(and maybe a rebuilding of the graphics engine is in order?)

Everything is at max in the launcher, and in T.O the only things i can think of that would effect what i'm getting would be -
-zfar (no difference)
-Filter (ugly textures overall)
-disableztest (no difference)

I've increased ResourceMemory to = 2048 (i have 4GB installed ram), and tried just about everything else on the wiki site for T.O, but nothing changes.

Different drivers make no difference either, and iirc, there's been no mention of it in the forums. It's got to be my system somehow.

Remind us, are you playing in DirectX or OpenGL mode?

Looking at the page http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz/Trainzoptions.txt , I see the possible option:

-zfar=XXXX (meters, default 1500)
Maybe if you decrease it to 1400 or so will improve the accuracy?

-vsync
maybe if you remove (or make it equal to zero) this, it will improve the framerate?
(it will be less steady/smooth)

-framerate=50
Maybe you have an upper limit at the framerate from the configuration?
Putting (say) 50 frames/sec as the top limit may help.

I would like to know the extent of the CPU load during the driving sessions.

Cheers,
N.F.

Barry,
Our systems are nearly identical, I've just run Rosworth and the only shimmer I get is the top of signal gantries and the top of walls in fields.
CPU usage is 67% or near, RAM usage 2g ish.
T Options has a few extras added, nothing x or z ish. -keepallresources=1
GPU settings as for 2010.
Running in compatibility mode XP SP 2.

Hi. At Zfar=800 did the texture problem dissapear, of course so did the ground ;) so whatever it is, happens after 800M :(

I use DX all the time, and changing to GL reduced the framerate by half, and framerate=50 didn't do anything.

Here's the windoze CPU performance figures.

Min= 0.00 (duh)
Ave= 66.8
Max=83.6

I'm running in as admin in win 7 mode.

The graphics effect i'm getting is the ground itself. If i don't use AA then all is ok with the ground, but trackside is a mess :(

I'll have a go at compatability mode as report back :wave:

Regards Barry

Ok. In compatability mode (XP+SP2), my CPU stats are -

Min=0.00
Ave=61~
Max=78.1

Less CPU usage in compatability mod but subsequent loading up 2k6 displayed stutter in the opening menu options when it slid across :confused:

I'm going to strip out the whole computer system and start again. It's getting weirder by the day.

Thanks for all your help, i'll get back to this thread once i'm done (or it's done) :wave:

Mine dithers when loading but runs ok.
It ran ok when using XP 2 originally ? Ever thought if your sticking with 2006 to dual boot the comp.

Well it ran ok, but i had the ground crawling texture problem. I moved to win 7 and it stopped. I then got my new card, and have got the problem back again. Going round in circles i fear :(

Original textures ?
Have you installed DX 9c .
Tried deleting assets TDX or BKU and letting the database rebuild. I dont know which 1 to delete, please note. Whether that would help I wouldn't know.
I'm convinced it's not the comp unless that spiders playing a harp in there!

Yes. A good example is starting at Sandsworth (Rosworth Vale), after the bridge the whole ground in the distance looks like it's crawling.

Check the NV settings, look for "Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames", increase the number by one or two and try again.
One more thing, increase all the settings in the NV panel and make sure you have the AA option in Trainz turned OFF.
Keep adjusting the the NV settings until you get the perfect balance, and don't spend too much time worrying what each thing will do, you can always hit the NV default button and start again. Keep your Trainz resolution the same as your screen and try to stick with O-GL, your system should not have a problem with it and Trainz prefers it. :wave:.
P.S. What memory does the GPU have?

I tried ogl and the framerate from Sandsworth to Rosworth stn was 21.6. That was with AA off and i upped the pre-rendered frames to 6. :eek:

The card has 1GB of GDDR5 memory so it's got the headroom.

As i said earlier, i'll dismantle the system and re-build.

Thanks

I got this thing nailed down finally :)

The main problem with the ground texture crawling is the 'Detail' slider. Turn all the way off and i have no problems whatsoever. As soon as i start to crank it up, the texture problem starts. To get some sort of exceptable display i have the slider in the middle (50%?), and have used Trainz Tuner to up the distance to 1500M minimum.

Sandsworth to Rosworth station i get 59.6 f.p.s, and my test route (was 35 f.p.s), is now 58.0 f.p.s. :wave:

I installed Vista (x86) with SP2, and have no problems with other games either. Perhaps it's Win 7 and my system that just don't get along together :confused: But apart from not being able to have maximum detail in trainz, Vista for the time being is a keeper.
