I can agree on that with you. If Ike does make its way, or if Josephine makes its way towards the Bay area, I'm gonna expect anything from just rain and wind, all the way towards another Katrina. Like you said Bendorsey, a lot of people don't realize the damage. I do, I guess cause its all about the "expect the unexpected". I read the SP Times, a really great newspaper, and I go to tampabays10.com for many updates.

Wish... and pray for us in the Tampa, Orlando, and Miami Metros, as well as other locations throughout Florida and the southeast. My mother is preparing for another Andrew....

I am also bracing for Ike here in Miami, as you said this can be another Andrew but I was born just after Andrew so I haven't been through a Cat 4 storm, but I was through a Cat 3 storm...

I am staying tuned to local news networks as well. Hopefully, Miami won't pick up as much damage since improvements have been made, like mast arm traffic signals, sturdier houses and buildings, drainage, etc. Looks like Ike is losing steam, since the eye disappeared and other things.

Good luck to all in the path of Ike.

Josephine looks to be losing strength and may soon be a depression...

Things looking a little better track-wise this morning but Ike still bears watching.

When we moved to St. Pete in the 50's we lived a few doors down from Admrial Farragut Military Academy (on Park St. North) and you could see all the way from the shore to the barrier islands. Today there are several hundred thousand houses built on fill with the floor about 4 ft above mean high tide in that area of the bay. Even a modest storm surge will cause significant damage. With a big one you won't even see the roofs (and every insurance company in America will be running as fast as they can for the Fla/Ga border, lol). They should not have been built there (or the condos on the beach over here on the east coast).

I hope everyone in the paths of those storms the very best. Here in Tennessee, we only get the aftermath in the form of storms and tornados which can be very frightening since the tornados don't give much warning.

Never been thru a tornado but I went thru a few earthquakes in Alaska. Not fun either. Very disorienting. You don't know weather to faint from dizziness or barf from a queazy tummy, lol.

I went thru Kodiak about 6 months after the large Good Friday quake and most folks were still living in temporary green plywood shacks.

Looks like folks in Cuba are going to take the brunt of Ike.

And now the Texas Gulf Coast is in peril....

Hope that our fellow Trainzers in the Texas Gulf area are spared from hurricane IKE.
