Now before you get all jacked up!

Perhaps he's a distributor for these? :hehe:http://cheezburger.com/5645484544

You are both wrong:D, just a bunch of Trees in a Park, by a River. See it pays to work for the Government as opposed to wait for your monthly check.

On another Note......

I put a Corsair SSD (solid state drive, 100GB) in my HTPC (home theator PC) in May and let it take some abuse over the last 1/2 year as a utility drive to my Hard Disk Drive to prove itself. Today I moved the OS over to the SSD as a new install. Only things on it were Media Browser, Metabrowser 2.0 and a few other things.....it's a TV PC that talks to the Home Server and displays Movies, Songs, TV and Video on demand. Today I did that fresh install on the Corsaire SSD as C:\ Drive, with the Hard Disk Drive becoming drive D:\.

Man! Is it fast! So much so I just ordered a Corsair Force Series 3 6gbts 480GB Solid State Drive for my Intel I7 Rig which I game on and have my BIZ stuff.

The 480GB drive should handle all my current C:\ drive, including Trainz. I think earlier in the year I paid about $150 for the 100GB drive. The 480GB cost $389.99 at TigerDirect, it's a Corsair too.

My rig that I'm typing on now is and I7 Quad Core 3.4ghz with 2-Nvida 560TIs in an SLI setup and a 26" monitor, so is the HTPC a Quad Core I7 3.4ghz, but with a one Nvidia 550TI stand alone on a 52 Inch Sony Bravaria LCD TV, and both have 16GB of RAM. The later kicks the former by 10 fold in the simple load of Windows Media Center. There is no other way to describe it, Solid State Storage kicks the crap out of Superior Hardware, 10 to 1, even with an inferior setup. IT JUST IS.

So that's what pushed me to order the Corsair 480GB today (part number C13-8480)...a word of caution. There are no user reviews on this SSD on Tiger Direct or Amazon. But I have had good experience with my Corsair Vengeance Ram Sticks I have in my Computers, all 4GB Sticks, and maybe 20 of them total without fail. Then that 100GB SSD I bought in May was good...so I went with them on this to be first and put it in this Machine.

One of the things I've noticed with Trainz.

Like I said I have an I7 3.4ghz with a couple of 560TI's in and SLI formation to run Trainz. But what I notice as I run a Trainz session, and move from a Train, here to...say a Train way over there...there is still a lag, and the more I do it the more the lag.

From experience....I've noticed.

As I start of a session...things are pretty quick, especially if I reboot and Virtual Memory is cleared...almost instant, until I run out of RAM at 16GB.....This happens as I switch loco's or locations. It's there, and I can switch, but after a while I'm dealing with the Hard Drive Virtual Memory and not the 16GB of Ram Sticks....Windows goes to Virtual Memory on my hard drive and it gets slower. The Idea behind putting Trainz completely on a SSD is to do away entirely with Virtual Memory on any Mechanical Hard Drive that stores Memory. Mechanical Hard Drives are slower then a SSD.

Like opening a door and walking in a room and turning on a light in the room. Who get's to the other side of the room first, you or the light?

It's a multiple choice question to tag idiots for future reference.

So let me say this....

You probably will not be able to just put in a $400.00 SSD and perk your system up like I plan to to with mine. Unless, you have an up to date Mother Board the can run a Sata III 6gbs on a Mother Board Slot internal. I've seen a lot of people bitch about SSD on the Vendor sites and I have a strong feeling it's because they are trying to run a Sata III System boot SSD Drive on a PCI slot off a 5 year old Motherboard with a PCI adaptor.

Wait...

Think about it.

It makes sense.

Now on the other hand My Mother boards are all 2011 or 2012, and the Bios's are 2012. IF you are not there you need to do some R&D. Or else you could screw up everthing you got and lose it all. It's called America. Go for it.

Now if you are confident, certain you will not fail, and have other systems to back you up, like a complete backup, or can use a friends computer to test it. Here is a link to the best way to set up your new SSD/HDD in a windows 7 situation for maximum performance, that should knock Traniz's Dick in the Dirt, if you can put up an SSD.

In that light;

I've tried system...went to an I7...things got quicker.

I moved to 16gbts of RAM......things got quicker.

I moved from an Nvidia 240 to a couple 560TI's in an SLI configuration......things got quicker.

Everything worked to faster, until in each case virtural memory got used by windows and I was subject to the hard drive speed.

So what do you do about the hard drive?

Get rid of it and get an SSD. I'll keep you posted but, I expect great things.

lovely route
just spent last hour going through ALL the shots
NICE!

Thanks a lot for that. It's been a while...really on development. It's more on getting this route to run on hardware at this point, and have been and will be. I may or may not have it on the SSD, it might take years. or it could all happen next week. I'm just looking foward to my new SSD, and believe me it it works...I'll be strutting on the thread, and building it up.

I've been missing the screenies of the work you've been doing of the route too. Can't wait to see you get back into it!

Yeah, who cares about what your PC specs are.....Lets just see the pix and get back on topic here...This is not PC World :n:

Now, Now be patient...

Screen shots will be forthcomming, first hardware issues need to be addressed because I want to play this thing too!

New SSD comes tomorrow have System Image backups of this machine now, making a seperate copy of the Tranz sub directory it's 70.4GB just for safety pruposes and will run on on an SSD. Also installed a new WD20EFRX in this box today as Drive D:\ just to get max Horse Power out of the SATA 6Gb/s channels.....It's The New NAS Drive from Western Digital, it's a 6Gb/s only interface HD. It's a smoker vs. the WD(Western Digital) Greens which run at 1/2 it's speed.

I'm putting 4 of these in my Server too tonight.:p

Along the same lines of moving your Operating System to an SSD.

Here is a link to move your Win7 install over to a new SSD as is.

http://apcmag.com/how-to-transfer-your-os-to-your-new-ssd-drive.htm

On mine however I had some files out on the outer boundy of my HD partition and couldn't sucessfully shrink the volume to the size needed as described. If any of you try to do this and have the same problem let me know and I'll point to you a link on free software to do it. Surfice it to say, if this doesn't work, it can still be done but it takes a few more steps with free software.

One of the first ways to tell if the SSD is performing.....

Ummmm okay sounds good....

Tomorrow or the next I'll put up a video recorded with Fraps on my YouTube channel with a link here using the new SSD. In the past Fraps(the HDD) caused a (pause/jerk) every so often as Windows 7 wrote the first block of video, and started the next....about 1.3 gb on a HDD.

If that is gone in the record & replay.....it's because of the SSD's handling of the record process blocks under Windows 7. It should be seamless.

I'd gotten a 1TB SDD but they are up there at $2600US right now. 480GB will do for now for under $400US.

Being an eternal Cub Fan....I can wait till next year with no problem.

Did I ever mention the $5000US 10MG Corvus Hard Drive I bought in 1985? Saving that for a Museum Donation.

It runs on CPM, and I have the software to run it, and a Heath Kit 89 to bring it up. Any Museums looking for this PM me it's all Pre-Microsoft....IBM Peanut. Ie..before the first IBM PC, and MicroSoft.

Well one of the things I'll know tomorrow....

Ummmm okay sounds good....

Based on S.E.T.I. Systems at berkeley.edu all over the world this Machine was in the Top 100 for raw processing power of all desktop systems on the planet (CPU/GPU), I got it to a Peak in performance, was Number #1 on the US Team until I got a $2000 electric bill running its' processing power flat out for 4 months to prove it....and took out all commers on the globe.... that was proof enough for me.

The only thing slows this thing down is the Mechanical Hard Drive which Trainz uses extensively and S.E.T.I. don't measure. SO, put in the fastest speed commerical SSD, going in the fastest Sata port in this box oughta put Trainz down Brain Dead.

It's about evolution...from a 10MG Corvus in 1985 to a 480GB Corsaire in 2012.

It's gonna be wonderful, and I can't wait...one more day.

You know what's fun to do? When a telemarketer calls, change the subject and ask for advice with a personal problem or all this stuff here ya just said here for no odd reason

I did get to see your screen shots before you deleted them.

...........

I saw your pics before you delted them....nice.

It's Ok you are pissed, because you have a TOMORROW. There might be one guy here that wants to do what I'm doing. I'll get back to screen shots when I have my hardware where I want it. But right now I have it backed up for a restore tomorrow. If I did anything it would be lost.

ie....I'm not backing it up again.

Let me just get a big break from the negative comments you guys all have for me right now here. Unlax.

I'm 56. I was planting trees about a week ago. I'm running down the street doing it, and the City has one tree that a guy don't want becuase it will mess with his sewer lines.

SO.....

I called my big brother who was a couple blocks over, who I knew wanted a tree if and when I came to town. Left him a message to call the City.

About an hour later....he like appears in the street, in his Chevy Blazer next to me.

Hey Brother, I got your message.....he says.

I don't need a tree....Maryann got a Gift Certificate when she retired at a Nursery and we picked a Tree up and had it planted already.

Didn't piss me off. It's what it is....I free tree from the government or fellow workers, no nevermind, somebody will get the tree.

What got me going was this, she has Brain Cancer, retired in June 2012, and found out weeks later.

My brother tells me things are bad. Called my Mom and Dad that night and they ain't heard nothing about anything going from bad to worse.

Get a call last night from My Mom, want to sleep over to the house, might be the last Thanksgiving with Maryann.

That's where I'm at right now...do your really want to hammer me on screenshots, or just let me put in my SSD and give some tips on how to do it on my Screen Shots Thread?

Funerals SUCK in the Middle of the Winter and I'll be at one sure as Sxit.

And you are all forgiven....Don't even say you are sorry cause there is no way you could have known....so you can't be sorry for anything said, and I understand in advance.

Just let me keep busy with my hardware upgrade. It's good to keep your mind occupied.

You know what's fun to do? When a telemarketer calls, change the subject and ask for advice with a personal problem or all this stuff here ya just said here for no odd reason

Or just tell them you don't have a Phone. That really sets them back.

So we all got this straight......I'm gonna keep myself busy, and I'm gonna bring this Desktop into one of the fastest desktops in the World within the next day or two on all counts....bar none, and Run Trainz on it and see what happens. (the full Trainz directory will run on a 6gb/s SSD drive) and it will not get any faster then that, for a long while, so this will be the fastest possible way to install Trainz on earth tomorrow on this machine of mine Proven #1 in the United States of America.

I think that is better then a screen shot. And the whole purpose of mentioning a $5000 Corvus from 1985, to a 480GB Corsaire in 2012 for $390 is just to say; if you can't do it today, prices on these things have always come down. I'm just willing to stick my head out there ahead of the crowd pay out some bucks you might not have, and maybe do some things you can't afford to do, but, when prices come down, and the time is right I will have shown you how to get there. Daniel Booning it. And you can book mark this secion, and I'll get you there in a Windows 7 installation.

On my Dime, and we all move foward.
