The General, a US Civil war locomotive

Somebody must have been drunk when they designed that:hehe:,but I'm not to suprised since everybody and their brother was building engines. Its pretty weird looking though.

Take your time. I personally can't wait to have all of these Generals, The texas, and the yonah. Combined with all of Bdaneals 4-4-0s. we'll have a pretty nice fleet of 4-4-0s

Here ya go!

At this time, the gauges are not finished and the levers do not "work". But I am working on it!

Also, the water is not animated nor is the firebox. These will probably be reserved for a much later date.

OOOOOOOOOOOO I cant wait!

Ok all, I'm getting there. Slowly but surely!

I'm having issues with several things.

1. How do I make the units of measure DEFAULT to US standards? I know I can hit the "G" key, but would rather them default to US.

2. WHAT establishes the fonts, lettering, and WHERE the identifying labels go on a lever or other object? Some items display, others don't. Some items display Large fonts, others are tiny.

3. I have NO "sounds" in my cab view when I move levers... I DO get everything else, (bell, whistle, steam...) What am I missing? (besides the sounds...:p )

4. (let's see if I can word this one right). The front window opens, and the brake lever is just in front of the window. How do I get it to "focus" on the brake lever instead of opening the window? I've tried to use "selection boxes" without success. Not really sure I understand them anyway.

5. Mr. RPearson has been helpful with the scripting, but it is still missing much. This is an area where I need total help.

Any help out there would be GREATLY appreciated and go towards the final release of this engine! The sooner the better in my opinion!

1. How do I make the units of measure DEFAULT to US standards? I know I can hit the "G" key, but would rather them default to US.

Use a route made with the USA region set. (or make one yourself) The regions in surveyor change the default units, among other things.

2. WHAT establishes the fonts, lettering, and WHERE the identifying labels go on a lever or other object? Some items display, others don't. Some items display Large fonts, others are tiny.

Well some items don't display labels anyway. I think all animated levers do that, but I can't remember. I think the line "radius" might have an effect on the height of the text, but I haven't tried it. I don't think there is a way to control where the labels go. I think they just pick a spot right above the attachment point and a certain amount of distance above it.

3. I have NO "sounds" in my cab view when I move levers... I DO get everything else, (bell, whistle, steam...) What am I missing? (besides the sounds...:p )

The sounds in the cab must be setup with a folder "Sounds" in the main cab folder. There needs to be a text file named cabin.txt in that folder that links a sound to a specific control. The set up of each control in this file uses the name from the config and will look something like this:

regulator beginselect regulator2.wav

The first part is the name of the control, the second is the mode, the last is the sound file. The modes that I can remember are beginselect, change-notch, lever-high, lever-low, and looping. The names suggest what their functions are.

4. (let's see if I can word this one right). The front window opens, and the brake lever is just in front of the window. How do I get it to "focus" on the brake lever instead of opening the window? I've tried to use "selection boxes" without success. Not really sure I understand them anyway.

If the brake lever isn't an animated lever, you don't need the selection box. As long as it doesn't have the line test-collisions 0 it should work. You will need to click directly on the lever, though.

Ben

You can also edit the config.txt of the map - set workingunits to 1 (page 434 of the TC ccg, though it's also functional in previous versions)

When committing, it says:
"Error: The tag 'workingunits' is not permitted within this container. (Container type 'interior')"

1. Ok, was hoping for another answer.

This is an odd thing. I KNOW I saw "sanding lever" and now it doesn't show. Didn't do anything to upset it. Also, tried your suggestions, no worky.

WORKS GREAT!!! THANKS!!

See description attached.

First image is with the window closed, mouse on brake lever, no response from brake lever.

Second image is mouse in same place with window open. Mouse "sees" brake lever.

Any way I can have the brake lever "recognized" with the window closed?

Whether English or metric units are displayed is a function of the map (specifically, the region), not the locomotive.

Ok, just using a "test track" for my testing. Guess I'll make it a US map! ;)

Thanks for the tip.

More questions to come! Expect it!

Just thought of another.

The sounds are working, but sounds like there is a horrible echo! Like I'm pulling the levers in a cave!

There is NO echo when I play the sound back via another program.

Is there some tweak (like hint=dynamic for the texture) that I need to know about?

This is going to be worth the wait.

I can't believe I missed this thread before.

I have the plastic model also, been sitting in my cupboad for 10 years waiting for my retirement to start building it.

I've been retired for 4 years now and still not started, this has prompted me to get it out and make a start.

The plastic model finished is about 500mm I think.

Off to the model shop to buy some paints and brushes now.

I generally get the help I need from some excellent people. Sometimes I ask the right questions, and get the right answers.

The hard part is not knowing how to do the scripting! EVERYTHING is a learning opportunity with this project!

Thanks all!

Don't know which brand engine you have. Can you give me the manufacturer of who made the model?

If your REALLY ambitious, you could always make it the Civil War version. Would take a bit of scratch building though. That was my intent all along with the plastic one, but only found one in many years.

If you intend to make the museum version, (or rather the one that was refurbished in the 1960's) go to this link to see some good shots and other images. http://www.locomotivegeneral.com/
