The Canadian Thread - Hi-Res images

That's pretty good for the pole sign. I think they may be a little big though. Im guessing they are approx 2 ft long by .5 ft high approx...

Are you using planes to make them or boxes in gmax? I havn't been able to use planes but I think that's what i need to use to make those small flags under that pole sign. I made them just to see with squares, they look not too bad but would rather have the actual shape which is more tapered at the bottom...

Theoretically, you could make a flag and animate it, but I wonder what it'd be like on frame rates (especially if you had several like at a typical station).

I shall stop waffling the thread. One of these days I'll toss in a pic or two. ^^

I thought they were a little large. I'll shrink them down, but I think 2' X 6" is probably a little too small. I'd think they'd be about 4' X 2'.

Boxes.

Here is my first attempt at the pole flag...

Robby,

You may want to enlarge the flags. They look a bit small. They can also look good on a lamp post in a city scene for a downtown district.

Air Canada has not flown the B727 since the early 1990's, a good aircraft but very thirsty. FedEx ended up buying quite a few of them as the last ones were only around twelve years old. Here is how they looked in the last paint scheme. The second pic is Air Canada today a Boeing B777-200 ER
a very efficient and reliable aircraft.

Hi there,

Will do the scheme of the first picture ...
The second picture, that plane is all done and ready! Actually, it's the same picture from airliner.net that that inspired it ... :hehe:

Hehehe thanks Ish. :) I'd still be happy to use those planes!

Nice pic too. Is that of your airport module you are working on?

Nice sign too transportman!

Gisa ^^

Hi M,

Yep, from the airport module -- Have you seen the cargo planes!!?

Since this is the Canadian thread, let me just say that I'll be doing a Canadian Jumbo Cargo Plane, with canadian cargo supplies to load onto rolling stocks, to match!! :hehe:

Thats got to be one bumpy ride for the flight crew....That tire looks flat :hehe:

Actually that's the static version -- too lazy to set up the drivable version ...

Didi I mention that all of the Canadian planes will come in both static and drivable!! :hehe:

Also, smaller planes for those small trips from town to town!!

BTW. Thanks Gisa for this guys!!
He wanted wings!!:p I gave my good friend a fleet!!

Yeah, I made them 2' x 1'6" approx of what they actually are but they do look too small in the game... Maybe 3 x 2.5 would be better, the other thing is that I made them with planes and I think i am going to switch to boxes and delete the side, top and bottom faces to make it have one object to face both ways... I am finding it difficult with the unwrap function where you edit the part of the texture image coverage area though, with the shape I have there are like 35 or 40 upw points to adjust so that's why the flags letters and logo don't appear straight. Anyone know of a way to only have a 4 or 6 point pattern on that option? From what I think it looks like whatever amount of points your mesh has, is what the function uses but maybe there is a way to adjust that... I am having fun with this though, i thought it was much tougher to get.. thanks to help from others of course : )

Hi Ish,

My pleasure. More planes is always a benefit: Canadian or not! As you saw in Candria, I only had 2 types of 747 so a whole fleet of all the planes in different skins would definitely give an airport a more realistic feel.

No need to thank me. We thank you for taking the time to make these. Makes me look forward to building up to the airport (feels like a long way to go still but someday :) )

Keep up the good work. BTW, where can I find some shots of your airport module? I'd love to see some!

Hi M,

Because this is the Canadian thread and I don't want to get off that topic, I'll PM you in more detail about the Airport pieces tomorrow, etc all are made from real measurements and designs! I'll send you links as well, which will lead to Smileyman's forum, as you already know! Plus the new Canadian planes, etc!

I will take a closer look at real life Canadians runways to see if they differ from USA runways. If they do I'll make a generic Canadian runway for you to use, and any Canadian rail fan as well!!

Take care
Ishie

Finished updating the panels. They are now curved like the real signs. Any suggestions on the look before I finalize and upload to the DLS?
