The Alabama & Southeastern RR WIP Thread (Large Screenies)

Hey southern, I want bentrain off the Greenwood branch, the other night he came through on a mixed freight and was running low on fuel, so instead of using our fueling station he took the two switch engines with him, get the 105 and 1201 back to Greenwood ASAP! The yard is a mess...

This is what I woke up to today(noth the 105 and 1201 are missing):

Don't ask about that new section in the fence, one of the Montgomery guys(I really hate Montgomery guys right now, between Doug and this fence[Jeff] there isn't much to like about them).

Also, looks like the 7172 is going to Autumnville for it's monthly maintenance.

7172 will probably be hanging around there for a while, her 92 day maintenance check isn't for other 9 days. On the other hand, we've had freaking ton of SD60's and SD29T-3's and SD49's coming through Autumnville today. Corporate lines 'em up like that for a reason. All of those units are our high altitude winter power. Gets mighty cold on the pass, it's one of few parts of the line that regularly sees snow in the winter. For an Autumnville railfan, you don't know it's winter because it gets cold, you know it's winter when your friend calls to tell you there's an 11 engine C584 coming northbound. C584 never has more than 3 engines on the point and two helpers unless it's winter. Today's C584 had 11 engines on the point, no helpers. 8 of them were SD29T-3's and SD60's in for their 92 day.

I saw an 11 loco power move once, 9 dash 9's and 2 B40-W's, I wonder about NS, it was engine light too.

A new story to bring up, Bridge 38 over Turtle Creek on the A&SE.

Bridge 38 was set for demolition by the State of Alabama and the A&SE, they were scheduled three weeks apart, A&SE first. The A&SE was rebuilding it so they could access a lumber mill that had re-opened after 56 years. It was scheduled to take a week but an switch threw a train into the creek and delayed it a week, so after the bridge was built it saw 2 trains a week, one on Tuesday and one on Thursday. The state was demolishing the bridge on Wednesday. So the day arrives and the crew comes armed with TNT. They said the bridge looked new but they were under strict orders to get rid of the bridge. So they blew it up. Come Thursday the local comes and radios MoW, who call corporate. Nobody knew anything about it, so they asked some locals. They said the state came and blew it up. The A&SE sued the state and won, the state destroyed private property without permission. The state funded the new bridge and the A&SE crews built it. Now there are three sets of abutments side by side and one set has a bridge.

That's awesome! I just uploaded the 5 GP29-3's to the DLS, they're awaiting processing. In the mean time, have you picked up slabay's A&SE C40-8's? They're available on his site.

Here's a suggestion for you regarding the abandoned abutments:
You can use the AJS Spline eraser to use the bridge abutments in the 'trackside' section of the 'track tab' to represent the abandoned abutments. This can also be used on 'Freight Depot 3' and Norfolksouthern37's Safetran signal gantries to make the red invisible track disappear. If you use ANY other type of track, in map view, the small sections of track attached to the buildings will appear. However, if you use the AJS Spline Eraser, the small sections of track will NOT appear in map view, as evidenced by their use on the 'Southern China' route.
Just a suggestion.

For those few people still following the A&SE, the 5 GP29-3's (2600-2604) and their matching hornsound were approved to the DLS this afternoon. They'll be available within 24 hours.

The GP29-3's are available. Enjoy! Coming in the future from me, doing some davesnow skins, in line are: GP40-2W, U18B, and SD59MX. Just some stuff to look forward to.

The CSRR (Carolina Southern, bought out by the VT&W, now a subsidiary) has a GP40-3 in for a 92 day and a final paint job, the loco was painted partially in Nashville on the VT&W and moved closer to home for the finishing touches. The CSRR is leasing tracks until it's system is built/rebuilt.

Nice shots wannabe here are some new work. (been busy with homework lately :()

Updating my davesnow skin progress. The U18B is progressing the best. Hopefully it'll be done within a week or so. I'm having mapping issues with the GP40-2W, so I'm putting it on hold until I can get with Dave and sort those out. And I'm waiting for an undec version of the SD59MX. I'll be classing them as SD39MX's for the A&SE, after a side by side comparison of the unit with a SD40-2 showed that Dave's SD59MX is about 5 feet too short to have been built on a SD60M frame like the prototype, so I'll say the A&SE's 55 SD39MX's were rebuilt from straight SD40's, making the frame length closer to accurate. I'll try to get some screenies up soon!
