Never tried that one before, just now tried it. Instructions say wait for the AI to blow his horn before coupling on, how could you hear the horn from that far back? Anyway after a couple minutes I went ahead and coupled on at 3mph, no problem.
What now? Dunno, watching the coupler strain gauge I see it turning red, am I supposed to push now? Opened up to notch 2, then fiddled with the throttle settings to do whatever it took to make it turn green and stay green. Didn't do the whole session, but I ran along for 10 minutes or so, throttle up to notch 6 then back down to 2 when we started getting close to the speed limit and the grade began to flatten out.
What I don't get, am I actually in control of the whole train now, or is the AI still driving and I'm just helping push from the back - while trying to GUESS what I'm supposed to be doing based on the coupler strain gauge and speed limit? Dunno, not getting any messages from the lead engineer that I can see or hear.
As far as DCC mode, that session is set up for cab mode, no user choice, and I'm pretty sure it would consider DCC mode "cheating". Best cure for DCC mode;

Lot of dough but well worth it, I've had mine for 8 years and it's still going strong. Not a cheap plastic toy, it's rugged and heavy enough to kill rats with, and once you try it you'll never want to drive a train simulator without it.
