Swapping from CAB to DCC and back?

I have had Trainz 12 for about 2 months and I'm slowly learning how to use most of the key 'play' functions. However, can't find how to 'switch' from CAB control back to DCC control? There doesn't seem to be anything in the Mnaual about this. ALSO, in the installed session 'DPU Push', it ALWAYS announces that "You have broken couplers" immediately upon reaching the first task of joining the back of the train. No matter how softly you couple-up, even <1mph, it ALWAYS says "broken couplers". What am I doing wrong, if anything? Is there a bug in the program or session? Greatly appreciate any good advice.

There is a little button at the top right of the screen next to the "additional tools menu button" and "camera options button" that says "User Rules Menu". Pick that then go to Quick Drive. Tada!:cool:

Never tried that one before, just now tried it. Instructions say wait for the AI to blow his horn before coupling on, how could you hear the horn from that far back? Anyway after a couple minutes I went ahead and coupled on at 3mph, no problem.

What now? Dunno, watching the coupler strain gauge I see it turning red, am I supposed to push now? Opened up to notch 2, then fiddled with the throttle settings to do whatever it took to make it turn green and stay green. Didn't do the whole session, but I ran along for 10 minutes or so, throttle up to notch 6 then back down to 2 when we started getting close to the speed limit and the grade began to flatten out.

What I don't get, am I actually in control of the whole train now, or is the AI still driving and I'm just helping push from the back - while trying to GUESS what I'm supposed to be doing based on the coupler strain gauge and speed limit? Dunno, not getting any messages from the lead engineer that I can see or hear. :confused:

As far as DCC mode, that session is set up for cab mode, no user choice, and I'm pretty sure it would consider DCC mode "cheating". Best cure for DCC mode;

Lot of dough but well worth it, I've had mine for 8 years and it's still going strong. Not a cheap plastic toy, it's rugged and heavy enough to kill rats with, and once you try it you'll never want to drive a train simulator without it. :cool:

Hello 'Gameboy'. Sorry, is that for Trainz 12? There are no functions like that I can find when you have a Session up and running?

Thanks Sniper. I'll try the Session again. Have been over it at least 30 times and have never been able to 'not' break couplers. Tried 1mph, 3, 4 6 etc. Even when I thought I had it, the train 'broke' further up somewhere. As to 'feedback' about what you are supposed to be doing, you're correct ... nothing. Maybe you're supposed to jump up to the AI driver 'Allan' and sit in? Sounds dumb to me. T. :-)

Yeah, I just looked at it again, it does say something about "you may want to switch back and forth between drivers" depending on what you're doing when.

As for DCC quick drive, normally a session starts with a user choice, I always set mine to start in cab mode since that's what I like. During a session you can normally find a little book icon at the upper right when the menu bar is visible, "User rules menu". Clicking that gives you another teeny window that says "Quick drive", which brings up the window allowing you to choose between DCC and CAB. For the session creator there's an option to not allow the user to change it, that session has that set on, so the icon for the User rules menu is missing from that session.

You can get around that if you're determined, open the session for edit, click the Edit Session Rules button at upper left. When that window opens, select Startup options, click the edit button. Change "Current control method" from CAB mode to DCC or Ask user, then click the check mark at lower right. Click the check mark again to save the session rules. Back to main menu at upper left, Save As "The DPU push2" or something. Then drive that session instead of the original, you are now a session creator. :hehe:

Oh thanks, I've been trying to figure this out on my own :)
