This was a Thing I Encountered, and was a Devastating Loss to find out when my PC Crashed a while ago. Unless you've Uploaded the Routes to Auran, And They've become Download-able by Everybody, They aren't Really Visible. All of the Dependencies you use, Textures, Track, Buildings & etc, Only Make up the Map.

If you've ever started Downloading a route on the CMP, and Seen the Route Name with a File Size, and it that Happens to have all of the Needed Content in the Drop Down arrow Below, that is Just the Baseboard Layout and Trackage, and Other Things. All of the Structures and Stuff are Outside of it, and Appear once they've been Downloaded Successfully.

Fortunately, once you Upload a complete Route to Auran, and you can Find it on the DLS, It's there Forever. Even if your PC Crashes and Trainz Dies, Once you get it all Running again and Start the CMP, You can Find the Routes you made, Download them, and Use/Modify 'em like you could in the First Place... ;)

thank you for your reply :)
but.. i ve made changes to some original trainz 2009 routes and been playing with them for a while..but if i upload these to DLS wouldn't i be breaking copyrights?

Oh... Well, I'm not Sure about the Copyright Issue. If you made all of the Routes, and are Modding them While you use them, I believe They should change/update, but if not, You won't get in Trouble for Changing something That you made in the First Place... :)

Hold it guys it's easy to back up your Trainz content. The problem is we don't do it enough so when there's a problem, the problem becomes worse.

Depending upon the version of Trainz, your content is either in the

C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\World folder

for TRS2006

C:\Program File\Auran\TRS2006\Local

and for TS2009, the path is similar as to the one for TRS2006.

With TRS2004, the only backup was to copy the complete World folder to another disk, DVD, etc.

With TRS2006 and TS2009, you can copy the complete Local folder to DVDs and or hard disks just as easily, and there is also an alternate. Using CMP or CM2, there is the built-in capability to backup the content to Zip files and to CDP files. Look for the function under the File menu.

Yes, I Actually Know of the Local Folder, And I've moved Masses of Files back and forth Between Locations; The Problem with Saving them to Disks is that a Usual CD-R hols 700MB. Well, All f my Content at one Point was over EIGHT GIGS. Now, It's Over 4 Gigs, but That's still Pretty High...:o

so you guys say, it is enough only to backup the "local" folder to any external harddisk to save everything? right?
but you are talking about gb's , my local folder in trainz 2009 is only 37 mb :( damn is everything allright about this?

The file size just means that you have not downloaded a lot or created large maps. Modifications to existing maps, using built-in items does not significantly increase the size of the map file on disk. My C.P.R. Winnipeg Division, which current contains complete trackage from Molson Manitoba to Portage La Prairie and all the branch lines out of Winnipeg is only 10.66MB on disk. The trackage is a stagering 1500+ miles of Yards, sidings, industries, branches and double track mainline. It uses very little external content since I plan to distribute once it is complete. I believe in the kiss principle.

With TRS2004 it is also possible to copy one or more individual asset folders of the items you've made yourself (in most cases you need to know the name of the item) or downloaded (you need to know the kuid). This is done in Windows Explorer so it's very simple, fast and reliable.

In addition, Trainz Objectz includes asset backup, restore and archive facilities.

Thanks John for the addition information. It's been awhile since I've used TRS2004.
