Hi all,
i was hoping to get some advise. In my trainz layout, id like to add some bus routes..... but im wondering what roads i could use, that are left hand drive, where i can drive buses, or set them up to drive them selves, and have them stop at bus stops and pick up pax.
so, essentially im hoping someone could suggest the following to download:

*Drivable Roads (left hand drive)
*Bus stops that are pax enabled and can be added to the roads i download
*good drivable buses (preferably with custom destinator/numerator)

Thanks guys.... any help would be great

Bus routes

I have several bus routes because you can drive buses where trains would not be realistic.

First of all driveable buses are really trains in disguise so you need to lay down invisible track on top of the road, so the type of road you
use is not relevant. For the invisible track, I use (all by cyberstorm):

busroutew - a two lane bus route spaced so it matches the outer lanes of a 4-lane street

busroute2 - a two lane bus route spaced so it matches a two lane street or road

busroute1 - a one lane bus route used for one way streets, to connect the wide bus route to the narrower bus route where a road narrows or
widens, for making 90 degree turns with having to use splines since they snap to the 2 lane routes, also for bus turnarounds, and to connect the other two bus routes to the bus stop.

The great thing about cyberstorm's bus routes is that if you see green, the level is just right, if you see red, it's too high, and if you see nothing, it's too low in relation to the road. As with all invisible track, you only see it in Surveyor.

Now you need an passenger-enabled invisible station for the bus stop with a very short platform, so I use AJS Station 1x50sQ by andi06. Use the single lane bus route to connect the station to the two lane bus routes. Then, to provide a bus shelter, I use City_2000_Shelter by ggotti, or you can use Modern Shelter Small Narrow by marky7890.

Finally, for the driveable bus, I use Swiss Post Bus, also by cyberstorm, but there are a few others on the DLS.

On level ground its fairly easy to build bus routes, but on slopes you have to match up the spline points and their elevation for both the road and the bus route. On tight curves, lay down the 2 lane bus route first since if the curve is too tight the bus route lanes will be too close together.

Assigning the bus to a driver in Edit Session and where to stop is exactly the same process as for trains. Of course, since the bus route is on the road, the cars on the road drive right through the buses, or vice versa. If this bothers you, you could use roads with no car traffic but that's not realistic either.

I have a bus route on a 2-lane rural road which takes skiers from a bus stop adjacent to the light rail transit station in the nearest town up into the mountains, across bridges, through the trees, and finally to another bus stop at the ski resort itself. Challenging to do - start with level bus routes first.

wow, cool thanx for all your help.... your layout sounds fantastic.
Just wondering is it possible to have several buses on the one line, as far as how do they resond without signals etc, if i have say 3 buses on the one road, one behind another if ive set them to run automatically..... how do you control one bus not driving into another bus? that might be a silly question, im just not sure how to set it all up.
Cheers
Ky
ps, are there anyways you could take some pics of your route, it sounds really cool.

More on bus routes

I don't know how to post pics on this site and I wouldn't know how to decide which pic to show you. I have another bus route that serves strictly urban neighborhoods, taking passengers from their neighborhood to the City Centre central station or other LRT stations. So both bus routes are very different in their appearance and purpose. My suggestion is to design your route and its street and roads, then envision a bus running on some of the roads.

I only run one bus on each of my two bus routes. But running multiple busses on one route is no different than running multiple trains on a rail line - all a matter of signalling. I believe there are invisible signals on the DLS. I also know there are invisible switch levers on the DLS so you dont have to have a switch lever sticking out of the middle of the street.

Also, when using the bus stop (invisible station), you may need to raise the passenger height if the bus stop is on a raised sidewalk. Then, note where the bus stops and then change the passenger shape to move the group of passengers to where the bus stops. I use height = 50 cm and passenger shape of 15.

Good luck with your bus routes.

left hand drive

Well I forgot you were Australian and were looking for driving on the left, so Swiss Post Bus won't work for you since the doors are on the right.

Search the DLS and I'm sure you will find some British or Australian driveable buses with the doors on the left.

andi06 has driveable UK buses with user choice of operator, route, advertisements etc. Look for KUID 122285, Daimler CW... Both single and double deckers available -excellent.

i dont know if ive downloaded them wrong or if im looking for them in the wrong place, but i cant seem to find the assets when i open trainz. Or i fear maybe they just dont work in TRS2010.......... any ideads folks?
cheers

Re can't see them on 2010

I have older versions of Trainz so I can't help you. I suggest you start another thread in the forum Surveyor, Operators, and Engineers and mention that you have Trainz 2010 and specify exactly which assets, including KUID# that you are having a problem with.

I think someone with 2010 and more experience than i do can help you out.

Bus for LH

There are three other buses one can download for North American/European (non British RH) and they are designed for the NYC (new york) RTC, Flexible and one other, with working front and rear doors.
I would like to see new designs for LH drive for uptodate LH buses and passenger enable bus stop, which forces the buses to stop at the beginning of the stop and not the bottom end of the stop. With a little imagination and trackmarks, and "load passenger" icon one can create routes and schedules.

:)

The Daimler CW Double Deck Bus,<kuid2:122285:600:3> is a locomotive so you'll find it listed with the Train objects (F7) tab. To use you have to place it on invisible rails.

hmmmm, i found the actual bus, but can for the life of me find the cyberstorm busroute invisible track etc......

These are the 1, 2 and 4 lane tracks:
busroute1 (2004/2006),<kuid2:78193:37103:3>
busroute2,<kuid:78193:37203>
busroute4,<kuid:78193:37403>
They're on the DLS. I downloaded them using CM3.3.

ok, it looks like ive got it all going now... thanx everyone for your help, i can see the invisible road thing is gonna take a lot of skill with spline heights etc.
Just a quick question tho, is there anyway to get the bus/road to not make the sound of a train when driving?

cheers bob, thats great....... and thanx everyone for your help on this.... now off i go to lay down some much needed bus routes to my city
