WOW Tume those telephone/electrical poles look amazing. I haven't seen any with that much quality. Keep up the nice work.

@ hert:

Thank you for the compliment. Building of Othello, Wa (for my Milwaukee Road project) requires such a power supply system. There are several “buildable” scenery pole objects with and without lamps and electrical transformers guiding the 3-phase power lines across or around the corners or connects two lines crossing each other. In addition to this the set includes several splines of wires with and without poles at it. The transformer texture is 256x256 I think and includes a normal map – quite a lot for just a power line which is just a detail. But I used mesh library technique to make the use of such big textures suitable to maintain performance.
The wires at the splines have been created by using segmented lines of mesh rather than just one mesh plane creating the wires itself within an alpha texture as this technique unfortunately often makes the wires terrible looking in the distance (the wires becomes “fat” in the distance). To support performance there are three LOD levels of the wire splines dropping the number of polys between it. Eventually the wires disappears in a distance of about 800 meters. This compares to the reality where also the poles remains visible in the far distance. If the wire spline also includes poles, the poles eventually will disappear in about a distance of 1500 meters. The last LOD mesh of such a pole does not even include any details as it is just assembled from four long planes to provide the wood pole itself.
Since the “buildable” scenery pole objects have already been equipped with seasonal functionality I will have to do the same for the spline objects as well.

@ h0NNer:

You have very nice screens at your page! I really enjoyed watching it!
Keep up your great work and thanks for sharing your results.

Hello Tume and thank you for your appreciation, in this weekend I want to make a small video too, because the screenshots are not enough.

I see you aslo work on tram layout, if you want guidance or tips, you can ask me, I'm glad to help

The tram lines you use, are those from the germans, with the name "strab"?

Beutiful video hONNer! :udrool:

Just a quick pic from me...

Hallo Vlad,

about the streetcar track: The track has been created by myself, but it has not yet been released. Actually I created this track about two weeks ago. It just fits on top of the YARN-like-Roads. But in the other hand, the track also can be used at “painted” roads meaning the road surface is not created by the use of splines – its created by using ground texture. In this case it would be recommended to lower the track spline points to -0.25 Meters (including the tram station asset). Otherwise you would have a gap visible between the ground textured surface and the tram track.
The YARN-like-Roads you see has also been created by me. I just needed more variations of the YARN-Roads. Therefore I measured its dimensions and created a set by myself meeting my requirements. But my Yarn assets should fit onto the existing assets as well. To make it more easy to handle automated road traffic, I created NON-TRAFFIC road assets only. Any automated traffic will have to be created by using extra invisible splines which just contains the automated car traffic. This also makes it possible to prevent any collision of automated traffic and streetcars by keeping the invisible car traffic splines away from the streetcar tracks.
Thank you very much for offering some help. I will get back to you if I am going to create some nice videos as you did. It is very nice to see the passenger stepping into the tram for example.

Have a nice day.

@ paulzmay:

You created a nice arrangement of buildings along the uphill going street. Sometimes route creators just don’t care about houses which floats half in the air and half in the ground :D

Thanks Tume - it means a lot coming from a creator as talented as you...

Unfortunately, it's often hard to find buildings that have foundations so you can place them on a slope... I managed to find a few here though...

Paul

Paul if you are looking for concrete blocks too place under buildings on slopes then check out Bill's (willem2) set, he made a variaty of sizes for me to use in my San Francisco route.

@ Paulzmay:

Yes, I agree to NormP! In addition to this, you could have a lock onto the "Municipal Transit Railway" route at TS12. I created a lot of buildings inclusive a foundation, as I also created a lot of slopes at that route. Considering your route looks more Europe like you may cannot use all of it.

Happy route creation :)

Hello Tume,

We both use the same idea, I also paint the streets with ground textures and lower the tracks at -0.20 with electrical overhead lines at -0.31, european style, all the map has been build around this idea. Good thinking with no trafic on the roads, I build same as you build, because of the colliding traffic problem. If you don't mind I want to see more pictures of your tram layout.

The splines under your lines, are you made those separately, or you made the tracks with those splines, anyway the tracks are looking soo good! Any chance you will upload them on dls soon?

Paulzmay, as tume said, nice placing with those building, I encountered same problem as you did, when you are working with the gradient, the proper buildings are soo hard to find and then to fit well, but you did a good job, and I wanted to thank you for creating a good pack of objects to use for building tram routes.

Hallo Vlad,

the roads are separate spline assets and the road junctions are scenery assets of the kind “buildable”. Therefore the junctions got points at it where the road spline assets can be attached to. Its just like the whole YRAN system works but I created my own assets as I needed much more versions of it e.g. wider roads without traffic guide lines to get the space for the tram tracks and so on. As new road splines requires new junctions, I eventually had to create a new set of YARN roads to meet the requirements for my routes.
The tram tracks could have been created including the road sections at it, but I decided to keep track objects and road objects independently of each other. Also in this way track and road objects can be used elsewhere and the advantage of an integration of a road spline into a track spline is very low if there is any advantage at all.
I am just about to create a little route including a short RR mainline section, a long branch line, a town and a lake near by the town. The RR mainline will not play the biggest part at that route. Much more important will be the “old” branch line which is now used by a heritage RR. Those people restored the old buildings at the station where the branch line splits of the mainline using the station side as some kind of RR museum. The same people also restored a once abandoned, but not dismantled streetcar line and included it into the museum. The streetcar line now runs on the weekends from the heritage station through the town to the lake where a lot of campgrounds and tourist attractions are situated.
The aim of that route is just to provide some fictional playground for several heritage steam trains as well as for streetcars. My intension is to use seasonal content only which I unfortunately have to create by myself as there is still no seasonal content available at the DLS – except some ground textures.
If everything goes well as planed I hope to be able to release the route including the content at the end of the year. But I cannot promise that!

I will take some time to get some more shots done. Thank you for asking.
Have a nice day.

Hallo Hert,

this looks like the a further development of a game called „Verkehrs Gigant“ (I once played the German version of it – in pre trainz times meaning before 2001). Perhaps an international version is called “Traffic Gigant”.
Does it have an editor where you can built your own cities?

The screen looks very nice. I just miss the streetcar catenary and it does probably not provide season change or does it. :D

I liked „Verkehrs Gigant“ the only thing I was that you could build streetcar track embedded at roads only which does not mirror reality too much and therefore the streetcars needs to share its space with other traffic. :'(

BTW – it looks like there is a stop at the end of the street where it bends to the right – and someone looks quite unhappy up there.

Thanks for sharing your Non trainz screens as otherwise I do not see other things than trainz as it pushes me every day to continue with that rather than to check out something else from time to time. :D :D

Hey folks....could someone please tell me where to download that awesome bridge?

thx in advance :)

47092:38478 and 47092:38479 on the DLS.

Paul

p.s. Hert - what is that game? I think I had a demo a while ago, but it was too much for my old computer...

Thank you paulzmay, but whenever i try to search those kuids on th DLS it tells me that the kuids weren't found.....
What am I doing wrong?
