WIP this year on my fictional route UK Capital Rail. This is set in the 1980s and so features the unpainted A/C/D Stock on my underground lines, as I remember them growing up. The deep tube lines have similar un-refurbished stock such as 1959 and 1962. I have thought of some exciting new features this year - counties and fare zones, which will help with proportions and station spacing, ie a mainline or Tube line has x stations in zone 2. The question is, is there a limit on how many stations?
Another is trying to try and think about how different 'historic' railway companies approached the design of their lines (in the capital), from station layouts to brick viaducts and signal boxes, to rolling stock. I have 'twinned' each of the mainlines leaving my central termini with one of their real counterparts, which is something I did last year with my fictional Tube Lines.
I have finally managed to get MS Visio to produce a useful network diagram so am working on a map of my entire network. Each grid square is a Trainz baseboard. In the central area (ie Zone 1), there is a Tube station or BR station in most squares.
Finally, I have always enjoyed coming up with place names and have created a spreadsheet that generates several different place names by combining a prefix and a suffix chosen from a list of over 700 I created from reading a a map, several years ago now. It also has a road name generator and pub name generator. I can't remember what the latter was for. If anyone is interested then let me know and I will send it. It could easily be adapted for other countries or locales by editing the lists.

Putsall Broadway's grand new Tube station has three of the four subsurface Underground lines. The fourth one, the Camberloo & City Line is brand new for this year and runs to the north of Zone 1. Thanks to

I love creating scenes with several levels of railways and roads. The tunnel portal ahead is the end of the deep-level section of the Chapelquay Line. The railway bridge is for the Orbital and Southale Line, which are elevated between the stations Trellick and Old Ford Lock.
