straight roads and junctions

Ok this is driving me nuts. I've tried several keyboard combinations and looked at several threads on here but I cant find an answer. How do i make a straight road with s junction in it without the road going all over the place?
Every time I lay the straight road its fine right up until I try to link another road to it. The it forms like a crooked "Y" instead of a "T" and the road becomes curved instead of staying straight.

You'll find most splines can be streightend with the track streighted tool (under the advanced tab of the track laying section) walls, roads, pipes etc.

A switch has a short section of straightened track in the lead in.

Two opposing curves, an "S", also has a short section of straightened track between them.

A curve, has a section of straightened track on both ends.

You can also make a junction without actually making a connection to the straight road. Hold down the Shift key while manipulating the spline point on the attachment road. It will not "click" to the main road and you can slide it under the road until you form your intersection.

I do this for roads I want to junction, but are way out of view. For those roads up close, I'll use the YARN intersections, which are awesome.

YARN is just what I want except is there a UK version? from what Ive seen of it the road markings and signs are not uk based

Pretty sure Maddy's road system (YARN) was only done for right-side driving. There are a zillion left-side roads though which are similar in principle, spline roads with matching intersections. Download a few UK or Australian routes and the roads there should give you a hint as to what is available...

I used the Yarn system in my UK routes.. I pretty sure its already written in the Region you select when starting a new route as to which side of the roads the carz drive on... The single way merge lanes are great for making working roundabouts with.

True, but the problem comes when intersections (crossroads, t-junctions, etc.) have stop lines on the left or right - these do not change with the selection of a region. This is why some time ago I made a set of 'city streets' in various widths, with intersections to match, and separate lines to be added wherever required. These were intended for my own use, but I did upload them to the DS (for TRS2004) and they seem to be reasonably popular (14,000+ downloads for a white line, for example.) The streets are 'no traffic' as they were intended for tram routes, but the config could easily be modified.

YARN was designed to be a set of U. S. roads, and fits them probably the best. Even so, it is not completely compliant with official U. S. specifications for pavement markings. No U. K. reskins around that I am aware of (though there could very well be some out there). The intersections are great looking and are a good plus, but also are a good hinderance to the kit, due to the limited set of such fixed intersections (e. g. no 45-degree intersections).

Regards.

Hi Ray. Ive just downloaded your roads to try out. I notice that the crossroads are all missing dependancies. Just thought Id bring it to your attention.

You need my 'invisible street' which is built into each of the crossroads etc. to enable street splines to attach. The KUID is 275817:37993 and it is on the DS - remember to check TRS2004 to find it.

Re road straightening - thanks bassist118

I have been involved with Trainz for two years and always wondered why the spline menu did not have a "straighten spline" tool like the track menu. Then I read this thread and bassist118 says to use the track straightening tool on a road or other spline. My first reaction was "that can't be right" so I loaded Trainz and it works.

My days of sloppy roads are over. Never even occured to me to try the track straightening tool on road splines. Thanks again.

Woops I forgot to add about the junctions - I don't use them just use invisible roads at road junctions - although this sort of fails(ish) when doing a 45 degree as you have to apply the invisible toad a bit of a distance from the end of the road - and some carz just fall off the end - and of course the traffic lights wont work doing this and you get regular RTAs lol

@Schweitzerdude - Your welcome... When I first found this out I too thourght that can't be right but you'll soon find the track streightening tool is one of the most used tool in trainz, some walls and vegitation splines can be streightend too to follow tracks.

:)
