Still one small problem

Well, with the help of the community, I've managed to iron out most of my Vista-related problems.

There is still one bug I've noticed, and, though it's not a huge problem, it is still kind of irritating.

Has anyone else had this problem? - I can't get any horn sound in the cab. When I hit "2", for the external view, the view is dead on from the front, and I still don't get a horn sound, but as soon as I move the view a little, it starts. And, of course, when I go back in to the cab view, there's no horn sound.

I've re-installed my soundcard and drivers (Echo Gina 24/96), but the effects are still the same.

I should also mention that I DO have the bell sound when hitting "B".

Anyone have any ideas?

HI
I loose the horn sound when I'm directly on top of the loco, looking forward in external view.
Its just something I've put up with, but a reason or fix would be nice.
Cheers
Pete.
PS. I have XP.

Well, at least I'm not the only one with wierd horn problems! :D

The funny thing is that when I had XP, everything worked fine. Since I've put 04 on Vista, the sounds all seem different somehow. Even going over
switches seems muted, and the stereo imaging seems weird too.

Maybe it's just something I'll have to learn to live with too.

It's funny that there's not a "sound" console to adjust things like there is in the flight simulators.

Thanks for the response anyway!

Neil,

This has something to do with the sound-card driver. I have the same problem, but with TRS2006. Ed (Euphod) mentioned before about adjusting the accelleration for the sound-card, but there is no such function under Vista for my SoundBlaster Audigy.

You might be lucky and be able to get an updated driver for your card.

John

Yeah, I've tried to download all the latest drivers from the manufacurer's website, and it still doesn't solve the problem.

Are you saying that there IS a way to do the acceleration for the sound card in vista, but just not with your card? If so, any idea on how to do it?

I'll give anything a try!

Thanks for the response.

End Snip

Hi John,
I have the latest driver for my card, ATI Sapphire X1650 Pro (August 2008), and I'm running it slightly over-clocked, I'm also using 2006, and XP, OS.
To be honest Vista is the only thing stopping me from buying a new computer, I've heard so many bad reports about it.
The sound problem with the horn, is the only 'bug' I have, so I tend to put up with it.
Strange thing is, Out of curiosity I placed a trigger on the track to sound the horn, from exactly the same position (top of loco) it worked:confused:  .
I think its just one of those annoying little things that don't spoil the game-play.
Cheers
Pete.

is it just one engine?

if the problem is only happen with one engine, that means that the point a.cabfront was not added to the mesh. This makes the horn seem very far away.

if it is with all you locos, i have no idea what is going on :'(

Yeah, it's with ALL locos - and similarly, in Flight Simulator X, I don't get any voices in the cockpit either.

I'm gonna chock it up to an incompatabilty thing with Vista and leave it at that. BTW - thanks for that article ED - Though I don't really understand the technical terms all that well, it seems to explain things pretty well.

Thanks again to all for their suggestions.

Well....at least we know there is no "hardware acceleration" direct access for Vista.
