Steamshots USA..Lets See Some Steam Shots..

It could be like on the SP where they felt that having two cab forwards doubleheading the train could cause the couplers to be pulled out of the front cars.

I always thought the reason why SP didn't doublehead Cab Forwards was because the smoke from the front engine would get in the way of the crews visibility in snowsheds and tunnels. I remember reading somewhere that if they wanted to doublehead Cab Forwards the second engine would be fliped, i.e. tender to tender not tender to locomotive.

The cab forwards all had all weather cabs. Just before going into a tunnel they would close all the windows. By placing the helper mid-train or at the rear, smoke would clear out of the tunnel by the time the next locomotive got there. The second photo on the website is of an engineer on the Southern Railway. It was part of a Time Magazine piece if I recall correctly.

Norm, you made my heart skip a beat with that last screen shot. If I may add the Commodore Vanderbilt is also on the DLS and would be a fine addition to that line up of streamliners. Not sure, but are there any other streamliners available?

I have the wrong engine on the Pennsylvania consist, it should have been K&L's shrouded K4. That is the only one I'm sure I missed. Thanks for reminding me of the Commodore.

That's better :D

I have left off K&L's K4 Shrouded Bronze and PaulzTrainz's GS-2 Daylight and I don't have PaulzTrainz's NYC J3A Dreyfuss Hudson and NYC J3A Streamlined Empire State Express.

Your shots and the information you often provide with them are an excellent resource.

points me to more things to download and wonder where to find time to enjoy! :D

Paul :)

Thanks Paul, one last change :hehe:

I switched out the Daylight GS-4 for a GS-2 and I went and bought the Empire State Express J3A Streamlined. (does not come with the cars)

Last one of these screenshots I promise :p

Paul :)

September 27th, 1939: Jackknifed cars tie up both tracks just south of Thunder Ridge on the LE&E's mainline, near Pittsburgh. Trying to keep up to the tight schedule necessary for LE&E fast freights, the engineer of NY-4, making up time lost due to a hotbox earlier in the evening, maintained a speed in excess of 50 miles per hour through a zone rated for 35. Locomotive number 834 jumped the track, resting to a stop just short of a steep embankment.

LE&E fast freights were kept to extremely tight schedules, and if an engineer brought one in in excess of one hour late, it was rumored that he would be fired on the spot. Many engineers were therefore liberal with many speed restrictions when running behind, and infrequently this would result in derailments.

Officially, the LE&E did nothing of the sort (the difference between rumors and practice), however the LE&E's reputation for holding tight schedules led to rumors circulating about the company, which in turn led crews to do whatever they could to keep time. After all, it might be a rumor, but who wants to actually find out?

In terms of labor, the LE&E maintained a fairly good relationship with unions throughout the 1930's and 1940's. Being in better financial shape during the depression than many of its regional neighbors, it largely paid its employees more than counterpart railroads, and particularly during the depression this helped to lessen the chance of strikes or labor disputes.

Also blah blah blah artistic licenses, etc, etc, etc

Looking good all! When I saw that Leeferr uploaded his old payware content, I had to get the Big Emma because I had the perfect place for her. Thanks Leeferr!
