Ben, yes I am aware of the restoration of the Rio Grande pile driver. I fond as many pics as I could, but many of them were too grainy to see detail but just enough to understand the general shape and how it works. I did find a drawing. That helped the most.
Norn, I'm using Pencil42's arch bar type trucks in standard gauge and link and pin couplers. I don't know when the prototype was made but I'm using it in my new route set in the late 1800's just before the use "auto" couplers.
I'm going to make the boom as a commodity with attachment points so it can be up or down. Enjoy Don
Hum, if you made the whole upper deck a commodity you could use the same technique as davesnow used on his <kuid:101046:103318> Crane Flat No Cab or Boom DES and <kuid:101046:103312> Crane UP non powered DES. Just a thought. It does appear as though the entire upper deck is intended to rotate.
Of course that is a lot more work and would be of limited application.
The air is getting cool and holidays are coming. There has been a steady uptick in passenger travel and many of the railroads are talking of adding extra trains to handle the load. On a cool evening the Railfan caught a couple of streamliners coming and going on the southern approach to CUT.
