Steam engine sounds without the overlay ?

Hello,

In this post. I am talking about Trainz 2004 primarily, since the 2006 steam engine sounds do not work properly on my computer at all.

I have a British steam loco called the Great Western 0 class51xx. It has a steam chuffing sound that is more pleasing to my ears than many in Trainz 2004. It seems to minimize or avoid the overlaying of sounds in the usual steam engine sounds.

It does seem a bit like a standard shift car (start off in first gear, shift into second, shift into third etc.) I forget if I downloaded this enginesound, or if it is built-in.

I'm hoping that someone understands what I am talking about here, (since I am not technical at all about this). I'd like to know if there are any other steam enginesounds that are built like this? How can I find them, And can I just "drop" them into some other loco's config file, or is it more complicated than that?

Well, looks like I am on my own here. I looked some things up and found that my locos and enginesounds were made by Skipper1945. And he made some steam locos for TC3 also .. (which I do not own) !

Found a thread by "Googling", Saying something about "I simply copied/pasted the specs and sound from the A3 into TC3."

Here's the thread ..http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?32759-Applause-for-skipper1945

Where this gets me in wanting to put Skipper1945's sounds into other locos, I do not know!!:udrool:

Hi there.

Which version of Trainz is this for? I'm not sure whether you are using 2004 and want to use this sound with other locos, or whether you are using a later version for which the steam engine sounds are poor? There was a major change to steam-loco sounds at TC3. The TRS2006 sound system is the same as TRS2004 as far as I'm aware.

Sine the OP mentioned gear changing, I think he is using an enginesound similar to that of MSTS's Flying Scotsman and Golsdorf locos.

If you qish to find more on the DLS, search for enginesounds and enginespecs that are UTC and Trainz 1.3 only. This will bring up lots of enginesounds that are in the same format (the diesel ones are all in the same format, with some steam) and lots of enginespecs. A diesel-type enginespec will not work with a steam loco type enginesound. Since your sound is in the diesel format, you will need to swap out the enginespec too, or find a pre-2004 one with similar values to what your loco needs, accel, top speed etc.

The later enginespecs allow you to have coal and water for a steam loco, but earlier ones (like yours, I presume) do not.

I hope this is understandable. :)

Hello fellows,

To clarify this a little bit, this is for the steam locos in my Trainz 2004. I have a steam loco that I like the sound of, (0 Class 51xx). I don't believe this loco is on the Download Station. I must have gotten it from UK Branchlines).

I have many steam locos I don't like the sound of, (GWR Manor, for instance).

I would like to put the 51xx sound into the GWR Manor.

I also would like to find more steam engine sounds that sound similar to the one in the 0 Class51, for example: the Earl of Berkley has a similar sound.

I can probably find the kuid folders for these locos, and I know there must be a config file in there, and I could possibly change things (enginesound, enginespec and so on) using Notepad. this is the limit of my knowledge on this! I don't know if it is easily done!

I will attempt to find these you have mentioned. You believe my required steam sounds are in diesel format? Then the enginespecs (by Skipper1945?) are built to work with these ...

Yes, I believe there are coal and water settings in these locomotives I have mentioned. Thanks for everybody's help. Robert P.
