SpeedTreez - Pointless on High Speed Lines?

Greetings all. I've been wondering, is it possible to replace all the SpeedTreez on the Trainz 2010 ECML? I've been (attempting to) drive on it for a few days using the Intercity and XC 43, as well as a Hull Trains 220 but the treez reduce my laptop to single-figure fps, and when you're moving at anything more than walking speed, you can't really even see them moving at all. So, yes, any way to replace all SpeedTreez for ordinary trees? I'm thinking the Perfect Classic Oak type of trees

Have you tried having a go at the Replace Assets tool? It can be found from the main menu at the top left. Drag assets from the asset list in Object mode. The pick tool will help in identifying the trees you wish to replace.

Unfortunately many of the trees that are on the ECML route do not show up in the object list because of the secret setting in the config.txt file. These trees were probably not in the original route but the ones they used were obsoleted by N3V when they introduced speed trees. The only way to get rid of these ones is to go round deleting them manually. It is possible to speed this up by copying and pasting (from the tools tab) a blank piece of ground or one that has some trees you like on it over the trees. This could be a long process with a route like ECML but it can be useful in the areas where there is a huge number of speed tress you want to remove.

Thanks for the advice guys yeah I tried to replace missing assets tool and the whole game kept spitting its dummy out, probably because of the secret setting ah well, I'll try and create my own UK High Speed route. Got a few ideas in mind, anyway thanks again

Hi Jack, this thread may provide more information with regards to the secret tag.

Off the top of my head, what I can think of is:
1. View dependencies for ECML
2. Open all for edit.
3. Now, go to Windows Explorer and index the UserData/Editing folder by adding the directory and allowing file content search like so:

4. Search for keyword "secret". Make a list of all the asset KUIDs that return a search result.
5. Revert all assets open for edit.
6. Put together all the collected KUIDs separated by a comma like so:
<kuid1>,<kuid2>,<kuid3>
and paste them into CMP search filter.
5. Edit these assets to remove the secret tag accordingly.

This method is to rapidly locate all assets in your installation with such a tag, rather than hunting for them one by one. It would also be much quicker and more efficient than manual replacement.

Those are the main culprits and I have found that because they are built-in and because of their privileges settings they cannot be edited and committed. There are others that can only be replaced after they have been moved, again tedious but at least Replace asset does work once they are moved.

So, to use the replace function can not be used on any built-in object without moving it first? There must be thousands of trees on the ECML route!

There may be thousands of individual trees but they are probably just repeated usage of a handful of assets. Therefore, try to locate these handful with my method.

Follow all the steps in the post you quoted. Windows will search within all the config files for all the assets that are open for edit for the "secret" tag.

Ah, thank you Shane for pointing that out. In this case, add another keyword either "permit" or "listing" to the Windows search string.

Be aware that it's not just the secret tag you need to look for. The permit-listing tag may also apply here - if it's set to 0, the asset does not show in Surveyor listings.

Right guy's, done all that, but all I get is "Indexing complaite" on the indexing options.

BTW I'm running Win7 Home Premium.

Simply click in the box at the top right hand corner and type your search terms. Type the following with capitalization: "secret OR permit".
