Doug, you are absolutely correct. My personal communications with Idv with the Director of Sales expressed the same.
Speedtree is most difficult to make 3D Trees. Second, the cheapest way to make them is the Gmax Speedtree Plugin at $1500. A second option is to find a small private game software organization and see if you can pay a small sum to utilize their Speedtree Legal License as I have done. Third Option is to spend over $10,000 for your own full blown Speedtree Program. I have remote access to a full blown Speedtree Program again thankfully provided by a small software game creator in Columbus. This ability is thru personal financial investment and multiple agreements with RRMODS and the upcoming game software developer whereas a decent percentage of the sales is distributed to both. Also, this effort was very difficult to arrange for the community with allot of time invested.
Speedtree is a very intricate and difficult cadet based program. The videos on YouTube and other locate are misleading. I speak with honesty and experience. Once I break even thru sales with my established agreements and generate a surplus of funds from the sales, I believe that the Gmax / Speedtree Pluggin Purchase of $1500 may open up opportunities for LOD IM TS2009 CONTENT. Thorough investigating will be necessary before such an investment is made that is for sure. I believe this approach is being utilized already, but refrain from speaking further on this.
Truthfully, if my financial investment and commitments were not established till after realizing the true efforts in my adventure, I might not of started it to be honest. Speedtree is intricate and a pain to create content that people do not scrutinize.
Auran is working on improving Speedtree Content. I provided a series of detailed emails and source code files to them. Since then, we have found many intricate setting changes, improved mesh generation techniques, and improved texture creation that now doubles the time invested to create with better appearance and performance. These techniques will not be shared with Auran as I never even received a Thank You.
Idv provided Unreal a simple editor. It was a major cost to the Unreal Developer. Auran cannot afford it, plain and simple. The Unreal Speedtree editor has a very detailed Eula. It also has code watermarks and texture imbedded watermarks as a legal tracer. Beware.
