SOPA & PIPA - US Trainzers could be in trouble...

I am surprised at the lack of understanding of the ramifications of not only the current legislation but of America's over all efforts to control the Internet.

Ask yourselves;

Where is The Pirate Bay?
Where is Wikileaks?
Where is Megaupload?

When I released the "1970 Sebring" race track for F1C and RFactor I distributed the file via Megaupload. It was not pirated, it did not violate any laws but now it is unavailable via Megaupload. Nothing that was distributed via Megaupload is available. Any Trainz content that may have been on Megaupload is gone. All of it. Probably forever.

When I came to this community I scanned this site to see how folks here were sharing files and saw the most seemed to use MediaFire.

Don't you think they may be next?

As an American citizen it is our duty to contact our representatives and decry this ongoing attempt to stifle free communication. Will it do any good? Who knows, the horse could learn to sing.

For those of you who are living elsewhere. The Pirate Bay, Wikileaks, and Megaupload were international companys based outside of the US. That did not stop the American government from shutting them down and seizing all their assets. Contact your government, let them know your concerns.

This is a threat to all lovers of free speach. Is it right that millions of people should suffer the loss of shared files because of the possibility that some might have shared copyrighted content?

Don't think that this won't affect you, it already has.

quod erot demonstrandum based on current law. It should give folks an idea of what is desired of the SOPA/PIPA expansions.

Let's jail 10,000 innocents so we might snare 1 or 2 miscreants. That's an increasingly common mentality. quod erot demonstrandum.

You have been drinking the magic Kool Aid...

 ...that's what I took of this from the very beginning. Please cease your ranting about what might happen because your paranoia cannot be substantiated due to your lack of observation of the way things are done in US-America.

Viacom is behind the bill because they produce movies.

The music video content Viacom uploads to YouTube is of course intact, full versions

That is the total aim of the bill, to reduce the occurrence and enforce laws against illegal uploading of movies and file sharing of the same.

You make it out like everyone that has a camera also has a lawsuit in mind and that will not be the case.

Reputable companies like N3V have nothing to fear because these legal riders are well stated by documentation.

You Sig, forget that you must purchase a legal copy of Trainz to use the DLS and that there is no tangible evidence of copy write infringement now neither has their been. If so, who has paid a fine?

I mentioned Viacom solely for the purpose of revealing how paranoid you are, with comments like "...with zero regard how it affects others..." The videos I mentioned were favorites, not something I illegally uploaded. Viacom is an entertainment service company, in business to entertain people so input matters. They must not present a negative action or attitude that would turn both customer and entertainer away.

No, you are not discussing anything from a sane point of view, you are simply posting to see how much paranoia you can generate.:hehe:

Definition: Paranoia-uncontrollable delusions of persecution.

I rest my case!

And you, backyard, are posting nothing but well-controlled points of view. Amazing how easy and cheap it is to buy minds.

Nothing of what you have said address, IN ANY WAY, the concerns exposed by SOPA/PIPA. So....

On a whim, I checked to see if Star Trek (2009) was available in its entirely, as you suggested could be the case. It is not. Not in any form.

Music videos? Care to point out any? The only one I could find was by Big Time Rush that AFAIK is by Viacom. Granted, I only checked the first page of Youtube, like most people logically would. Hardly the blanket permissions you suggest one could obtain by writing Viacom and asking permission. The BTR (OMG! They're so hottt :} right? It was 3:39 which may or may not be a complete song but isn't Lady Gaga.

Tell ya what, write Viacom and ask for permission to put A list artists on Youtube in their entirety. (i.e. not just samples of songs or videos in order to sell them, or songs never intended for general distribution.) Better yet, ask them to allow me to post an HD copy of ST 2009 there...or anything else. Please. I beg you, I'll provide whatever documentation is necessary. Or, put me in touch with your "contact" so I may do so legally myself, I'm ok with that, and it'll save you some legwork (and major credibility.)

More to the point, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see what you happened if you uploaded same. Please? PLEEEZE?

Oh, yeah, I realize that I must purchase a legal copy of Trainz to access the DLS. Evidently, far more so than you, based on contribution history. By almost a 2:1 ratio based on DLS stats

(Nevermind some biggun's I have in the pipeline. And, as a content creator, your views do not represent mine; they are abjectly hostile to mine and to what I would love to contribute to the Trainz community.)

But, let's get back to the point. The Megaupload case demonstrates that the powers supposedly needed by government via way of SOPA/PIPA were never necessary in the first place, at least domestically, since it accomplished the same ostensible purposes. Therefore, only malicious, worthless tools who feel the need to control others should benefit from more stringent controls of minimal value otherwise.

Edit: Sorry, I may have confused you and CR. CR is a pretty logical guy. However, I would expect this kind of lack of intelligence from you, backyard.

I just heard on the news that both of these bills have been shelved indefinitely. That's great news.

Sure, The Bills have been >SHELVED<. That does not mean they've been defeated. It means:
- They could rear their ugly heads again, perhaps under a different name, within a few months to a year. Edit: Looks like it already is showing its head again: http://www.csoonline.com/article/698193/sponsor-sopa-markup-hearing-to-resume-in-february
OR
- Parts of the bill will be sneaked in little-by-little with other, possibly irrelevant bills.
The American public cannot afford to let it's guard down on this.

This is not the end.
This isn't even the beginning of the end.

At best, it's the end of the beginning.
A lot of Republicans actually backed off the bill. Democrats seem to be the ones still holding onto it.

Another Issue since its been "shelved" that they are trying to pull behind our backs as a response towards SOPA:

http://www.slashgear.com/sopa-sponsor-has-another-internet-bill-that-records-you-247-20210264/

This has absolutely nothing to do with c Censored. This is about Surveillance of the American public. I am just surprised they didn't get rid of the requirements to get a court order.. oh wait the so called "Patriot Act" took care of that requirement. This is just a smokescreen to fool the American people. The Biggest issue with it is that the firm that sells you Internet access would be required to track all of your Internet activity and save it for 18 months and up to 4 years, along with your name, the address where you live, your bank account numbers, your credit card numbers, and IP addresses you've been assigned. 24/7 We ALL in the US will be treated like criminals no matter what your doing.

This is just creating a honey pot for hackers to have all our information, anything can be hacked. Hackers have broken into gaming sites...they've broken into military records the Pentagon. They even have broken into Online Banking, nothing is secure.

Yes you're right everyone will have to be vigilant as they could try to sneak pieces of it in even as pork belly on other bills. But if enough people write to there congress men and senators in there district opposing it, that will help. The opposition to it is what killed it this time around. The people were heard again, which is the way it's suppose to work.

I understand what ye mean there BNSF50

Aye, that be very true. The issue that stands before this though is not many people are realizing the secretive about this next bill they seem to be keen on passing, hopefully more then just "us" will be speaking up on more of these secret ways they are placing in these bills from the SOPA Act. As sometimes it just doesn't seem to work all the time especially with these new bills and the most recent (OPEN/CPIP) coming into play since its for their sake of profit/sake of Hollywood´s corporate arm.

Perhaps you still dont get the point of dangerous the internet really is.... Perhaps I should give you a much better example... Go to yahoo and put in people search, then after you find one to use, put in your name and look for it... criminals can buy checks on where you live, past places, relatives, famliy members, criminal record.... THEY CAN BUY IT FOR GOODNESS SAKES... ISNT THAT PRIVATE TO YOU? Ever wonder why all of these murders are showing up of where a whole family is just slain and nobody knows who did it and why? There it is...... Again... If we do not pass this bill, we just gave criminals the upper hand.. We just told them by not passing it, that they can rob us, hack us, do whatever they want to us from over the internet and nothing is done about it........... BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP WRONG CRIMINALS! The people who use the internet abide by the same laws as it would in the real world..........

GOVERMENT READ THIS AND PASS THE BILL!

Sorry you used bad example. You can get that same information without the use of the internet and the outcome could be the same. Not to mention these bills have nothing to do with what you are saying by using this example...I suggest you read more into what these bills actually do/are supposed to do, and how and what it would affect.

Then get off of it. Enough said. People can and have always been able to buy "checks on where you live" and anything else. Familiarize yourself with Experian (the credit company), Lexis-Nexis/Choicepoint and Acxiom to name but a few. They've been around a loooong time and their business is buying and selling everything about you.

P.S. Your government does it too. You know, the same government you think would "protect" us from that stuff.

fact, that is why the internet should be shut down, and it should be illegal

I can go to the courthouse and obtain pretty much all of this without the internet. Much of what you say is a matter of public record open to all.

Dave.......

It's ok guys, help is on the way. I finally got to use some of those Emails for cheap medication and bought a whole lot of CHILL Pills to send right over to you all, just take two each and relax. :hehe:

If the internet should be shut down, WHY ARE YOU ON IT RIGHT NOW?

Again, all the paranoid fears of yours are already legal, have been for years, and you're asking the same folks who allow it to be legal to pass yet another law that doesn't even try to address the very things that make you so fearful.
