Snow High Valley Distr Ctr (High Resolution 950x532) Approx

:) Good Sun morning Sir!

And I thought I was the only one that does this :hehe:..........The KISS philosophy always works above all else........

In the future I want to figure out how to do a way that that sets Ladders in a Yard Track with Paths, for say 10-12 switches when pulling a consist out for a run, and not having to check every switch to make sure it is Set properly, because I have derailed myself a few times on a missed a switch set against my Train, Ouch:o

Probably I can do with PGuys Inter locker Box.

When I get some time, I need to play around with PGuy's Path Toys that he recently made, amazing stuff.

Later tonight, I tell you about a Run I took with Bullet Trains late in the Day, fascinating!
I just got into trying PGuy's IT and EIT assets. THis would be a great way to preset any path through turnouts so a train can leave a yard ladder from any line and the whole setting of the paths will be already set and reset for you. However, there is some intricacies that make this asset group a bit of a learning curve. I am conversing with a few people in the Enhanced tower thread under the TANE group as they are helping me to learn and tune the assets and rules. (Which reminds me I have to update the thread)

I say if your willing to roll up the ol sleeves and dive in, then go for it. I got most of the set figured out, its just some of the finer details I need to tweak.

Thanks for the good info, I will dive in later once I get my Assets errors squared up, and I'm going through my list of Routes and Clearing out the ones I won't need or use, got rid of 4-5 yesterday, the list is looking better as time goes on. I didn't realize how much I got carried away with Downloading the Routes, along with all Preview Routes Trainz puts in you end up with long list of Routes, as you can't hide stuff like we did in TS-12 using Favorites, too bad they took it away from us!

You know my biggest Pet Peeve about track control no so much with Switches, But it is Tracks Crossing over another Track (no switch involved) and controlling them the way they should be, whichever Train has Priority or which one gets there first should have the Signal, rather than a Cornfield meet.

I remember reading about how all of us wanted a Signal aspect to Control the crossing Tracks Signal, which most said was pretty much impossible. I can't remember if PGuy has something for that type of Crossing or not?

Good evening Folks,

Well my day went fast, more family and friends dropped in from Holiday, hey I thought the Holidays were finished. Naw, they are dropping in to visit, before they head back to Snowy, Icy back East weather.

Edit 2100hrs PST: Sorry I was between houses and couldn't finish this until now.

So below I still running those Coal loads to Thurman.

Inside the CAB is the controls necessary to make it run.....And can she run too. Everything here is so nicely detailed too!

Ok after this Picture we are going to switch to another Route, will come back to this tomorrow to continue the trip on C&O Hinton Divs.

This is one of many Routes I downloaded, and it is called Bullet Train.....And what the Author did was build 4 main lines together part of the route and then they split into two. Your not going to believe the Train Speed I got up to! It surprised me, I'll tell you that. Below I'm doing 274 MPH.
304MPH here! It's hard to tell, but the tracks ahead are barely coming into full render as we cruise at warp speed. and we can only see about 1-2 tiles ahead.

313MPH was top speed, talk about a rocket ship.......

Get further out and you just have these protective walls in place in case you become airborne.....I didn't so far............

I though some of you might like to what this looks like if your into Racing Trains..........

Not quite my cup of tea, but I thought I'd try it once just to say I did.......

So tonight, I intend go back to work on patching up faulty Assets, I got all the Pofig Trees removed and downloaded some Ultra Trees to replace the Pofig and others.

While I think about it, I'm trying to find "P42_Genesis_Pack.cdp, I have some missing assets on several Amtrak Locos. Kuid 52779:500002 & 52779:54000.

If anyone knows where I can find these..........Thanks.

Wishing a good week ahead.......Night now.

Are you refering to something like a N-S line crossing a E-W line "Tracks Crossing over another Track (no switch involved)", or a line where 2 trains end up staring each other in the headlights "a Cornfield meet."

Either way, I tend to use The ASB Crossover set to prevent this. It essentially uses a controller to control the signals thus causing one way to be open and the other to STOP by way of trigger actuation/cancel.

Thanks maruffijd for keeping me out of Trouble here,

I was in Error when I said Cornfield Meet, you are correct, yes an East West Crossover....

And your item sounds like it is much cleaner and simpler by design, I understand the concept, can you point me where to grab said item?

Thanks for your wisdom Sir.

Avery-Drexel visited Tonight........What a route!

Good evening all, sorry I haven't been around, been spending some time with In Laws before they head back to the Mid West and lots of Cold Snowy Weather.....And I redid my Whole Tane installation on PC.....But will cover that thoroughly tomorrow........

So tonight, because I'm in the middle of T:ANE renovation, I decided to slip over to another Layout called:
-12.....

Avery-Drexel

I bought this when I got T:ANE because it couldn't run on TS-12 version.....So here is some background info on the Route.........

A Brief History

In 1906, the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad started construction of its transcontinental mainline, also known as the 'Puget Sound Extension'.

In 1908, the construction reached the Bitterroot Mountains. The management did everything to get the tracks laid very quickly. The visible steel parts of the Kelly Creek Trestle had been built in only one month's time from December 1908 to January 1909, after the concrete foundations had been built by the excavation crews. Tons of explosive powder, steam operated cranes and big shovels had been used by the construction crews to build the Railroad into the steep mountainous terrain.

Four steel trestles, eighteen tunnels, numerous wooden trestles and many rock cuts were required to keep the grade of the track to below 1.7%.
After three years of construction, the last transcontinental mainline of the United States opened in 1909.
After a terrible forest burn in 1910, all of the wooden trestles had to be replaced either by steel trestles or large sluice embankments.

The transcontinental passenger service between Chicago and Tacoma opened in 1911.

Forced by the competition of other Railroads and the Panama Canal, the Milwaukee Road's management decided to change from Steam to Electric train operation in the Rocky Mountains.
In 1917, the Milwaukee Road opened it's electrification between Harlowton, Montana and Avery, Idaho, a distance of 438 miles.

The electrification of the transcontinental mainline in the Cascade Mountains between Othello and Tacoma, Washington State opened in 1919. Although planned, the gap between Avery and Othello was never electrified.

With electrification increasing both train speed and transportation capacity, the Milwaukee Road became the worlds most modern and most capable Railroad of this time.
High voltage power lines supplied AC current at 110kV to the substations along the line, where it was converted to 3kV DC for the overhead wires using large transformers and huge motor generator sets.
Equipped with three motor generators of 2kW capacity each, Substation No 13 at East portal was Milwaukee Road's largest and most powerful substation until 1955, as Substation No 6 at Janney had been upgraded to supply more power for Pipestone Pass.

Part II of Avery-Drexel

The first Boxcab electrics were delivered by ALCo and GE in 1915. The 42 units were initially permanently coupled in pairs, but were later re-formed to make sets of 3 and 4 locos.
In 1919, General Electric delivered the EP2 class Bi-Polar locomotives to the Milwaukee Road, assigned for the passenger service in the Cascade Mountains. Because of its spectacular design, the Bi-Polar soon became one of the worlds famous electric locomotives.

In 1921 another ten Electric locomotives were delivered by Baldwin and Westinghouse for passenger service in the Rocky Mountains.

In 1950, the Milwaukee Road bought twelve 2-D+D-2 locomotives originally built for the Soviet Union. The EF4s, called Little Joes, became the most powerful and most reliable single locomotive at the Milwaukee Road and dominated the freight service until the end of the electrification in the Rocky Mountains in April 1974. During the first decades, the EF4s had been formed as tandem units coupled permanently together. These tandem units provided over 11,000 HP and carried the freight trains between Harlowton, Montana and Avery, Idaho supported by Boxcab helpers at only the steepest parts of the line. During the last years of electrification, the EF4s had been upgraded with multiple unit train control to work in multiple with the diesel locos that hauled the trains on other parts of the route. The diesel locomotives remained on the train, and were controlled by either single or tandem Little Joes.

Due to competition from road traffic, all the Railroads lost customer orders during the 1960s and 1970s. As a result of this and several other factors, including the management decision to abandon the electrification in favor of using diesel locomotives throughout, the Milwaukee Road came into more and more economic difficulties.
The expense of dieselization rose higher than anticipated even higher than the required modernization of the electrical equipment had been calculated. The oil crisis of the mid 1970s made matters worse, and the Milwaukee Road eventually abandoned its transcontinental mainline in 1980, and was taken over by the SOO Line in 1985.

About the Simulation

This Trainz Simulator route represents one of the most spectacular and famous portions of the Milwaukee Road's transcontinental mainline. It is now used as a bike trail. The route includes the area from Drexel, Montana to the east all the way to Avery, Idaho to the southwest. The Milwaukee Road went through this corridor using about 44 miles of mainline track. In addition to this, the simulation also includes about 45 miles of the Northern Pacific Lookout Pass line from Haugan, Montana as far as Mullan, Idaho, situated a few miles west of Lookout Pass. This creates an area of about 538 square miles.

The area has been changed during the many years of Railroad operation and even thereafter. The route is represented at the beginning of the 1970s, just as the construction of Interstate 90 had reached Taft, Montana to substitute the old highway 10. These were also been the last years of Milwaukee Road's electrification. This route has been created by TUME using the terrain only route provided by MILW. The route contains over 1000 items. Most of it has been made especially to support full season change functionality at this route.
Great Thanks to all people who have made this route possible with their excellent support and help. Lots of photo and map research was necessary to collect all the information needed to create this route as realistically as possible. This includes investigations into the area, the track and road layout, and the history of the surrounding towns. In particular, researching the specific buildings and structures of the area, such as depots and electrical substations, the bridges, maintenance and trackside buildings as well as the town of Mullan, Idaho, were all important parts of maintaining that realism. My thanks goes out to all the people how have made helped with my research in the Milwaukee Road line, in particular those who have freely published their own photos and information on the World Wide Web.

Northern Pacific's Lookout Pass Line

That's it for now. I thought this is a good intro on the Route, as I really didn't know much about it........

I'll have more for tomorrow..........Night now.....

interesting information ^^ loved the pictures that go along with it.

Thanks for spreading this knowledge, who knew the USSR [indirectly] helped American railroads? hehe

Hello SETH, Glad you enjoyed,

There are so many interesting Stories and Pictures about Railroads, around the World?

I was watching the building of the Yukon and White NG R.R. in Alaska for a bit last night on YouTube and I hope too be able to cast to my Smart TV and watch it on a larger Screen instead of Smart Phone?

Unreal how those folks built the Railroad in the Dead of Winter thru mountain passes! With Dynamite and Ropes! Dangling over the edge of a Mountain side, talk about Yanky ingenuity.

This is NV3 Link where I got the Pictures and story for previous Msg's for Avery-Drexel Route info.

Been busy fixing some Rain Gutters ahead of tonight's incoming Storm 1 of 3 scheduled to hit West Coast in the next 6 days, and a Toilet Repair to finish my day off......My poor Trainz didn't get any attention today. But had to get these items fixed fast or suffer the damage from Rain Water buildup!

Now I'm going to Avery Drexel Route to play the first session highlighted below in picture. Don't tell anyone I'm not working on my Route yet, I needed some more diversion. :hehe:

From what is says in Session Story above, I'm grabbing this power and headed out to help a heavy consist over St Paul's Pass........Will see how it goes, as I brand new to this :Layout hope I don't get lost in a Snow Storm....LOL

I'll try and post more Pics later tonight.

Thanks for dropping in folks,,,,,,,:wave:and SETH you too,,,,,,,

yea! I love history, but it always more along side the western world across the globe, I never really focused in much on Railroading (unless it's about a few select trains)

I hope you enjoy that route! It sure looks interesting :)

Taking a drive on Avery-Drexel with Diesel & Electric Motor lashups!

I'm getting ready to pull a heavy Diesel Freight with 11000Hp Electric, wow that is some power. We are positioning onto the main to hookup.

We are headed south to spot our Electric into position once the Freight comes in.

Ok...We are lashed up and got our Air Check etc, ready to go, here are the instructions about Crew Change.

A view from a little ways back, look at the beautiful mountains ahead.

We are climbing a 1.7% Grade here, and our max speed is 30MPH, I'm doing 24 at the moment, slowly our speed will come up and I nudge the beast carefully forward with diligent watch on the Coupler Stretch, don't want to lose anything on this hill.

Moving along and getting across a Tall Bridge....Looks like we have quite a ways to travel.....

I still need to write about my T:ANE re install, and the MAC new install. Please be patient......

So will see you tomorrow, and find out where I am on this interesting Route.......

Open for suggestion on other PANTO type Trains

Have you ever tried to run anything else with a panto under those wires on Avery?
They are really high wires...

 Hello Saieditor,

Nope, I'm brand new to it, but once I get used to the route a little and figure what's where, I will probably try it out......I don't know who built this Route.....But if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears, because I embarrassed to say, I naive on Panto Stuff, I know there is some interesting stuff out there.

:hehe: Also I don't care how old it is either, if it looks good, runs good, heck I'll get it and run.

Thanks for coming buy to visit.........

Some script issues with Avery-Drexel and T:ANE

Evening all,

Well I had a busy day getting folks off to the airport, with some rain in tow today. Have been fooling around with the first session. Starting to understand it, but T:ANE gives me some errors while it's playing.

So first off, this session works more by Voice Commands from Dispatcher, than popup screens, also the Green Tags that popup for driving distance are small for my eyes, and against the large white background are hard to discern the distance your expected to drive. So I have to play this session a few times to understand it better.

What doesn't make sense on this session to me? Is when you first start out, you drive backwards for 6tens of mile, stop, dispatcher tells you the Train your going to hook onto is coming, now you go forward and scissor over to main track, wait for Train to stop on Switch behind at main, then you do your reverse move and hook up as lead unit consist. My thought is, since the switches are already set for scissor over, you should position yourself on the main ready to go, as this train is coming in at reduced, very slow speed, he isn't going to not stop in time and cause a collision! But this is just my take anyway..........

So below you see me, waiting as the trains passes me up a bit before it slows to stop and waits for me to scissor over.

Made the crossover here, and blue coupler symbol is shown (and large enough to see easily for me), I'll connect to the head end of Train Power, once that's complete, dispatch will tell me to get moving!

I'm moving about 2MPH here as I think this LOCO I'm on is quite heavy, it has 11k rated power and lots of Bogey's for Traction !

Here is ID of this train and Tons in Tow Weight. In this area we are .50% Grade Factor.

I can't recall here, but either just before I connected or immediately afterwards, red Bug popped up and this is what it said was wrong.....It looks like it has a problem with the Script, and I don't write Scripts, but am thinking this is a compatibility with issue with T:ANE, maybe one you all can tell what is happening here with the error..

I didn't change anything in this Route, I loaded it, and playing it as was intended.?

 That's all for tonight I will continue playing this Session to see what else occurs as I try to learn the ying and yang of it.

:wave:Thanks for dropping in folks.

Happy Friday night,

Wow did it rain Cats and Dogs last night and today, supposed to get up to 12" rain in the mountains too, I don't know how much in the Valley's where I am.

Anyway, I sat down and wrote some notes on my T:ANE installations, from last year to last weekend, here is the link below.

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/show...e-notes-on-me-and-T-ANE&p=1572307#post1572307

It's in the T:ANE forum.

Later on I'll post pictures tonight, I had to switch to another session in Avery Drexel, as I keep getting a SPAD error after passing a Green Signal, and it throws me out of the session? Funny thing is it didn't do it the first two times, Maybe someone is familiar with this. It occurs just around the bend after leaving AVERY station.

See you all later on.

Playing Sessions in Avery-Drexel Land

Late evening Folks,

Well it was a good night, I purchased CB&O Silver Comet missing a Bogey, hopefully will resolve in in day or two so I can try the Pullman cars out. Also got the ATSF SD45-2_bicentennial unit too.

Now to Avery-Drexel, when I go around this corner of the mountain and merges into a single mainline, I get a Green as I mentioned earlier, and then once past, it gives me a SPAD, and Session ends.

This is a picture of the consist as it approaches the Yard to pick up my unit for Xtra Horsepower over the pass.

This is the other session on West end of Route, I'm trying it out to see how it works or if it has serious errors too? We have 22k Horsepower at the head end pulling. And 3 unusual electrics as DPU power. Below is notes on this Session.

"Take a transcontinental westbound freight train on the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul & Pacific Rail Road from Haugan, Mt over the St. Paul Pass and westward to Avery, Id. The train, led by two EF4 electrics, has stopped at Haugan where a three unit Boxcab mid train helper has been cut in. With ample electric power under your control it should be an easy trip over the pass.

Picture from high above the valley, shows our freight moving thru the valley.

Here is those unusual old Electric Units (Box Cabs ) acting as DPU's....

Another Picture as we pass by.

Thats it for now, will see what comes out of this session.

Thanks for dropping in and have a great weekend.

The route looks good :) I just wish it wasn't so..vivid XD
oh well, I may get myself that route one day maybe.
