Apparently he's Curious if his Computer can run 2009 well.

John,

Recent experience tells me that TS2009/10 will struggle, or not run at all, on a 24inch HD Monitor (full screen at native 1920 x 1080 resolution) without a decent graphics card. My ATI 4650 512mb just ain't man enough for the job.....

so shall i lower the resalution then?

Try running both the monitor and Trainz at the same (lower) resolution, or you could try running Trainz windowed (uncheck the "Full Screen" box in Trainz Display Options and sett the Trainz screen resolution to something smaller than the monitor resolution).

Matter of trial and error to see what works best with your card. BUT I can't be sure if it will work at all.

Note: TS2009/10 put "more work" onto the graphics card than earlier versions of Trainz.

ok thanks but if it did work or i gon a new monitor do you think trainz 09 will run at default settings smoothly

or even do u think my system can run trainz 2006 smoothly with windows 7 64bit anyone please help and also my system has 800MHz on the cpu is good or bad for trainz 06

Have a read here:

As you've seen on this thread others do have some experience with setups similar to yours. I don't have a test lab with a range of test machines in it.

If you don't know which components your machine has Belarc works well http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

The size of the monitor isn't relevant but the pixels are. 640 by 480 has 307,200 pixels,

1920 x 1200 has 2,304,000 pixels so roughly speaking you need a machine 8 times the power to give the same frames per second. You can lower the resolution or run in a window but that lowers performance as well.

Will give you some idea of the cpu performance. If you go with TS2010 that version shifts more work down to the GPU
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-310-5970,2491-7.html

Will give you some idea of where your graphics card is in relation to others. TS2009/10 do use DXT compression so the 256 mb of graphic memory won't be quite such a drawback as it would with earlier versions.

TS2009/10 can make use of up to 4 gigs of memory under a 64 bit operating system, WIN 7 likes 512mb - 1 gig so pushing your memory up to 4 -6 gigs may help. www.crucial.com and use their scanner to see what your motherboard will accept.

There are performanc / graphics trade offs you can set in the game, for instance the default distance is 5 kilometers you can drop this down to one, which means Trainz has fewer objects to keep track of.

Choose your layouts and assets with care, some are much more demanding than others. Content is made by many people and some are a lot better at making good content that runs smoothly than others. The S&C team have created some very nice content that runs reasonably well. www.settleandcarlisle.co.uk and at the end of the day Trainz is all about content.

Summation It will probably work enough for you to get a taste then you can decide whether to upgrade your hardware if required or not.

My recommendation would be buy TS2010 and the S&C add on and try it. Its cheaper than buying new hardware and there is a reasonable chance it will work.

Amazon.co.uk have TS2009 for under seven quid. Suck it and see?

TRS2006 is more demanding of computer resources to get the same FPS on the same content.

thanks ill buy it soon hopfully it will run if it dont then i will install trainz2006 im sure my specs are good for that to run smooth but just gonna struggle with the windows 7 64bit thats all

800MHz cpu?
Pentium 3 perhaps??
Stick with TRS2004.

Precision is not one of Sleek's strong points, which makes answering his questions more difficult. If you go back to the first post there is more details, I think the 800 is an fsb number.

does any one know if trainz 2006 has compatability mode when you right click just then i can use xp mode

"hey im sorry if yous cant understand my questions but i really just want to play trainz 09 or 06 i get my new pc in 10 days the specs are on the forum as you know but perhaps you can tell me your specs and why trainz 06 is more demanding than 09 i will be really disappointed if i cant play either games i just need your help thats all no one answers the question in the forum

thanks sleek"

I hope you did me the curtsy of reading through this link:

Thirty years ago my hourly rate was $140 an hour for answering these sort of questions. Update the rate for inflation and I'd suggest it is cheaper to buy the software and see for yourself. Technically this is known as the empirical method or suck it and see and can be very cost effective at times.

If you are after cooperation then perhaps doing silly things such as using upper and lower case and a spell checker would make your messages more readable. Including a little more basic information such as the graphic card would help enormously. By the way any further information will have to come from the forum since I regret to say you are now on my email spam list so posing questions that get answers on the forum will be an important skill for you to learn.

Currently I've no idea if you actually have a machine, are purchasing one or are thinking of purchasing one. If you are thinking of purchasing one my opinion would be you could purchase a machine more suited to Trainz than the configuration you are buying for the same money. I assume you are talking desktop?

TRS2006 / TS2009 read the specs and look up the words if you don't understand them. TS2009 can use more than one core. TRS2006 can only use one core this means half your cup will be idle. TRS2009/10 have DXT compression, TRS206 does not, look up DXT compression.

"my freind a computer guy says it will run fine"

And who am I to disagree with your "freind".
