SketchUp and Trainz

Okay, this is what I do:

Content Manager 3.2 > New Asset
Content Creator Plus opens...
Scenery, New, the KUID is okay
username? objects name or my username?
Category class?
Region...ok
Era...ok
kind is set to scenery
then, I go to Mesh-Table and default; the mesh is the .im file I did.
After that...I save, no errors but I don't see a thing!

CM shows the 'New Asset' but nothing else.

Sorry my ignorance, but I'm sure that once I done it, I will keep it mind forever.

Thanks!!

1. Open CM
2. New Asset
3. I usually go directly to the Auran 2010 "editing" folder and locate the 'New Asset' folder just created. I then put the .im file right in there.
4. Then go to the New Asset window which was opened automatically when you create a new asset and click 'Scenery' and then click 'New'.
5. Now the main window opens and username is the name of your new scenery object - XXXX so put that in there.
6. Then in 'category-class' click and scroll down to Commercial (scenery-non functional).
7. On category regionclick '00' if you don't care to name a region or whatever region you want.
8. Then click category-era - 1800s forward - pick a time period.
9. Then look at the long window to your left - right click 'default' and choose 'auto-create'. Then look on the window to the right and check auto-create.
10. Then left click the mesh button which is a square with three dots in it and that should automatically take you to where you put the mesh - hopefully in the New Asset folder in the editing folder of your Trainz version.
11. Once you get there then click the im file and then a window will indicate 'Open'. Click that and your asset should appear in a window. Then Click the drop down menu in 'File' and Save it. It should indicate you have saved it. Then close that window. Once you see it as New Asset in the CM - commit it until the name changes to your asset name (edit --->Commit). That should do it.

Exactly John, I draw in SKP and save it as 3DS and open-export to trainz in ACS/Gmax.

Will try Len as you suggest.

Thanks!!

Yes as noted above the 3DS is exported from Sketchup and imported into Blender for texturing. I use Blender by the way not GMAX.

PERFECT procedure!
I can manage to make it.
The only thing but now it's about SketchUp is that:
* The preview window into CCP shows no texture. All white faces.
* I can see it into Surveyor, but, in the list it is red and if I add it, nothing.
Seems likes some trouble with the textures...

I want to try working in Gmax because I'm very good in SKP but, any texture tutorial in Gmax maybe? hehehee

Thanks again!

www.Blender.org. Looks like the site is hung up again. Must be very busy. I haven't tried the new version 2.5 beta. Still using 2.49b which I've set up perfectly. If you want to use that version - which you can dowload from the site I can help you there. So I'm staying away from the new version for now.

Remember when texturing the textures have to be in 64x64, 128x128, 256x256, etc. Right click the asset in CM and check the error. Once you get that then report back. I'll try to help you there. Red means you likely committed an error in the texturing process such as texture size or that you forgot to put the texture itself in the asset folder.

I far prefer Blender and have been using it for years.

I assumed you were trying an untextured object. When you put the im file in the New Asset folder in the editing folder of Trainz put also the texture config file and the bmp image as well. That way when you get to the preview screen you will see the textured asset. The export folder of your program will have the bmp file and the texture config file.

Ok Len12,

Finally, I'm downloading Blender (very slow server)
I will investigate a little about texturing, importing and exporting.
I'm sure that I'll come back again with more questions.

Thanks!
