Latest progress as of today. Expanded original plan, adding a dual railcar barge shipping point, an ore car to barge transfer point, and a cargo ship dock with dual cranes. Working on the intermediary scenery using @Frank_Dean's scenery assets. Also modeled in a high butte top lake and water fall. flowing into a stream running alongside the new, as yet unnamed port town. This all adds more layout operations fun, and
Beautiful intermediary scenery to drive through.

The areas of the layout, from right to left are Silver City, Yuma, Yellow Sky and Dutch Flat.

Monument Rocks area, WIP, rock work may change.

Your route on the left reminds me of the Thunder Mesa layout
Thanks Rick 🍻 ☺️

This entire layout is an experiment for me. Making new desert rock meshes, trying out combinations of terrain textures, seeing what works together, and what does not. Many of the models, wharfs, retaining walls, rock splines I'm using I've had in limbo, just waiting for the right layout to use them in.

I've changed the rock work on the 1st 4 sections several times, and I'm further refining the Monument Rocks area that you like. I redid the creek canyon, changed the water spline, sprinkled Joshua trees everywhere
The new port is shaping up. Modeled some new buildings for the port warehouse area, imported an old tugboat, and reskinned my Ferris Cargo ship model.

Re-worked Monument Rocks area, still fiddling with this area.

Port warehouse area, showing wagon shop, Fish & Guano Fertilizer Co,. Monument Boat Repair and general goods warehouse. Fruit shipper, post office and port office in back ground.

Goods Intermodal. The crane reaches all the way to the road.

Harbor area. All ships and the barge are new models. General freight handled by the two Ferris ships. Silver ore transfer to waiting barge train.
Dual Barge ferry port for all traincar types. The sandstone retaining wall also doubles as a high breakwater wall, leading to the lighthouse rock.
The long barge is a dyke stone carrier, a Czech model I built a month or so ago, also looks good as working river barge here, I think.

The strip of buildings in the back, will become a section of the commercial area of Monument City.

Nice! That's one of my hardest things in Trainz....trying to make it look rugged. Mine usually come out looking like a golf course... LOL... Nice work!

You need one of these...

@rick1958 - Sooo. the arch, hoo doos or the little loco?
Do you know what the loco is?
Thats a scene from the Thunder Mesa in On30. I was thinking your "rocky" dessert scene needs one of those arches. The engine is an 0-4-0 Porter. If you aren't familar with Thunder Mesa, you should check out his site. Pretty much a Whimsical oval with a leg, but it's all in the details.
