Turning down the saturation will provide a less blinding, florescent blue ... and toning down the black to a lighter charcoal/ash gray will show more detail on the trucks, and body door panels

It's not 'blinding'. This was made for me. There must be something wrong with your computer. Let's see you do a repaint, cascade. And let me criticize how 'blinding' it is.

He does have a point... Your blue is over-saturated and the black is too dark. Adjustments could be made to this skin, but since it's yours, you do what you want.

perhaps, he has his monitor adjusted to make it look the way he likes, and that is okay, nothing wrong with that...

Settle down mate. He's right. The blue is over-saturated and the black is too dark. Very very easy fixes. Would take about two minutes in any basic image software. 'Blinding' isn't attacking you, it's simply suggesting what to do to fix the problem.

This was my first ever reskin, I believe this is blinding. I made this back when these engines first came out.

It's not that. This guy always says something like that, everytime I do a reskin. I thought the point of reskinning was for the reskinner's standards. It's up to my standards. I want it to be 'dark black', because most RRs have black paint like that in real life. Since the panel doors are for show and doesn't do anything in the game. It shouldn't matter.

But the colors are still over-saturated. That's a fact. Does a real locomotive look like that? I think not.

"Dark black" is usually a very dark grey, with RGB values like 20, 20, 20, or 15, 15, 15, not 0, 0, 0. That black is...a bit too dark.

Yes, you have standards, but people like us do too. We can have an opinion on it if we want.

Here, i challenge you to turn down the saturation level on your skin, then show us a screenshot. You'll be surprised at how much better it looks.

But hey, if you don't want to change it, don't change it. I really could care less.

Regards,

Colors -> Hue/Saturation

I'd also suggest lightening it up a bit and then weathering it back down if you want it to be darker. You'd want to work with layers for that. For layers go to Windows -> Dockable Dialogues -> Layers.

While Cascade expressed his point in a rather direct way, he does have a point. Also, the entire process of learning something is to constantly raise your standards in order to push yourself and see what you can achieve with some time and effort. It doesn't happen overnight, and the learning curve is steep, but you wind up learning something that can help outside of a hobby or a pastime, especially in the globalized and technological world that we live in today. Don't settle, and don't be afraid to push yourself a bit. :)

BTW, I used Gimp. So, there's no way of turning down the saturation level that I know *of.

Might need a better excuse than that mate. A lot of reskinners use GIMP, ie, Me. So, adjustments could be made to this skin to, per-say, give it a more, "realistic" or "reasonably real" look.

Why not use a freeware SD50 off the DLS if there is one? If someone made a blank reskinnable SD50 like Dave Snow, that would work, he allows reskins and reuploading of his stuff.

Let's try to keep from attacking each other folks. And keep posting awesome pictures of your reskins everyone.
