SHANE TURNER I STILL CANNOT ENTER SURVEYOR

THE ONLY THING ON MY SCREEN IS A SMALL MINI-MAP. THAT MAP REMAINS NO MATTER HOW I TRY TO REACH MY ROUTE. i CAN ONLY ACCESS DRIVER MODE. EVEN CHANGING THE MINI-MAP IN DRIVER HAS NO EFFECT. THE SMALL VERSION IS BACK WHEN I START THE GAME OR END A DRIVER SESSION.

Please:
- Turn off your CAPSlock key when typing; the constant writing in full-caps is experienced as YELLING and as a result not much appreciated by many people
- Put your glasses on or lower the pixel setting of your monitor, so you do not have to type in full-caps in order to read your own text (assuming that is the reason you keep typing in full-caps)
- Contact Shane via Private Message if you want to do 1-on-1 communication.

Thank you.

Also keep in mind that it is passed midnight where Shane lives, so he might have gone to sleep.

There's no might about it.
About 8 hrs for a response I would say.

Thank you for taking the time to remind me. I'm 83 and mysight isn't what it was. I should have realized the time differance. I have a cousin in Newcastle that I talk to often so i should have realized. So thanks again for taking the time to tip me off. I find the game somewhat overwhelming but I had a good sized Model Railroad that with six friends we operated over it about twice a month since the early 70's. I really miss it and I had high hopes that Trainz would be the answer with multi player this year but I've become rather doubtful. Don Eisan

I was indeed in bed at the time of your posting.

Did you try the advice I gave you yesterday regarding Ctrl + M/Esc?

If you have, you may need to do an extended database repair to make sure that none of the built-in assets are causing this issue.

The CTL+M/esc brought up new screen that allowed me to change the size of the mini map screen but when I tried to enter SURVEYOR after clicking on the route I've been building for the last five months the small screen of the mini map returned. How do I get my route in Surveyor to work on? I'm sorry about the capital letters. I did not know it meant shouting. I'm 83 and I did it to read it better. Deisan

Hi Deisan,

Ctrl+M is a toggle. use once minimap on, use second time minimap off.
When on and you select minimise on the Mini Map, a box should appear on the Surveyor toolbar that says Mini Map. Click on this should Open Mini Map again.
You should be able to exit Mini Map in normal fashion by selecting x on Mini Map. Next time you load your map there should not be a Mini Map showing but only your route. I have just tested this in TS12 SP1 HF3 and this is how it worked.

If this is not the case then go to Content Manager (CM) and see if your route is there. Should be on My Content tab.
While in CM do an Extended Database Repair. And then go back to Surveyor and see if your route has returned.
If not I suggest you try the helpdesk or Shane's tutorials on re-installing Trainz. You may have a corrupted install. But your route should be in the Userdata folder so save that before attempting a re-install.

Hi Deisan,

I'm just about to turn 60 so I am starting to feel your pain.

So have you tried "zooming in"? Use the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Rick

I've tried everything I can think of but still the mini map remains. I found in content mgr several listings for my route along with 3 auto saves. I also ran the extended repair. I have also reloaded the program. There has been one change to the screen. I now have the 7 panels on the right side with the mini map still there. I should mention that I have not attempted to update to TS12 SP1 and the hot fixes because of the number of negative coments in the forum.
My teenage grandson has called my attention to the fact that my old computer was at 49922 when I went to my new computer which only shows 47772 now. I did have a couple of updates right after I signed back in.
One final point. Unless I'm blind there is no place that has an X on the mini map as mentioned above.

I'm sure you have seen the note and my reply from ianwoodmore. If there is one bright spot in all this, it is the response you get from members of the Trainz family. My grandson also reminded me that this mini-map thing happened once before. I got around the problem by reloading an autosave that was a couple of days old. I had to rebuild some track and buildings but I was building again. I had two calls yesterday about my progress and how soon I was to operating again. My answer was I felt I was still concerned about the prospect of 3 or 4 way freights trying to run at the same time. I told them I could not understand how the cars I set out at industries are back in the yards the next time I looked. On the bright side I told them someone must like me because the number of 40 ft cars available has suddenly tripled. "back in the 70's you had a lot of less than carload shipments" you also had mostly single track and meets. Those were the days.

I was told the number in the bottom right when you start the game was the version of the game that you had. The difference between 49922 and 47772 has never been close to the content assets not loaded of 1364. If the problem is missing program updates then how do I obtain these? Deisan

I've now learned that when I converted my old computer to a new faster one I copied my route and contents but just reinstalled the program from the disk. This resulted in 49922 build number on my old computer and 47772 on my new one. Shane Turner, who has tried a number of times to help me feels that I must correct this before the locked mini map can be resolved. I don't even know what updates to look for let alone where I can find them. I think I need to call it quits. I was having enough problems with things that would occur in the game. In the old DOS days you could copy anything. In Windows everything had to be installed. I do wan't to thank you for the attempt to help. Don Eisan

Shaneturner told you in his last post (the post above your last post) where those updates can be found, have a look, they
are fairly self explanatory, even I can understand them.:)

Hi Don,

This isn't as difficult as you think.

Shane has a link to the patches on his website.

I've been laid up the last two days and did not see your listing of patches. I got the basic message that I had to bring the new computer up to the build number on the old computer. At that point I asked my wife to drop a thank you note to some of those that tried to help me as I was calling it quits. I told her that I would write a thank you to you. I managed to get to the computer this afternoon and I saw the update listing and downloaded them. I started with 47772 to 48249 and that appeared to go O.K I then tried the next to go to 49922. That failed with some message about there was no backup on some long file name. I also note that while 48249 appeared to have finished the build number had not changed. What have I done wrong now or failed to do? Would you believe I was a computer consultant for over 25 years on main frames. (I retired at 55 when Windows came along. I thought Windows was full of holes and a very unstable system) Gates pulled the biggest con on the American People and congress yet.
