Now... East German DR was amongst these few European Railways who had the most diversed fleet of cars after 1945 (in fact after 1948), including some quite unique pieces on the overall background of the more common types. Amongst numerous younger post-war designs such as the REKO, Modernisierungswagen, the Y and Y/B families, there was a huge fleet of older rolling stock, dominated by former German and Polish cars of pre-war construction... supplemented with many less common pieces of Italian, French, Belgian, Dutch, Czechoslovak, Romanian or even Yugoslavian descent. Most of the above mentioned rolling stock was still in regular service even as late as the mid-to-late 1970s... with some single pieces being retired as late as the late 1980s. It surely makes the historic DR railway panorama even more interesting then it would appear in it's well-doccumented final years.
