San Francisco Cable Car Route.

NormP, pleeeease tell me it's TRS2004 suitable?

And to certain "Trainzers/Trainzettes" that may/will/have ask(ed) when will it be released, it will be ready when it's ready! Do you want a hurried up route, or route that is near to perfect as possible?

Most excellent work, everything looks absolutely spot on. A fair bit better than the GTA San Andreas version i have been spending time in recently;)
The only thing id say to change is the road texture, the road looks rather cartoonish with those solid color textures, needs something with more asphalt grit, it would be a simple 15 minute reskin.

I left my heart ...

I am homesick! I grew up in San Francisco and used to commute on the cable cars. It looks like you have certainly captured the atmosphere of San Francisco. Do you think you'll ever add the Muni streetcars that used to run down Market Street from the Ferry Building all the way to the Twin Peaks tunnel? That would really be nostalgic!

Truly an outstanding job with a difficult theme. Keep up the good work!

A most interesting route and very well realised. Cable cars have always been an interest of mine.

One question about the prototype, how is the crossing at California & Powell handled. I would guess that as the car has two gripper shoes these could be used to cross the transverse cables, but the grippers seem to be the same distance apart as the crossing cables meaning that both would be disengaged at the same time.

Another question. The switches at the terminii, how are the cars moved from one line to the other.

Intersting stuff.

Cheers

I used to live in SF many many moons ago and I always say them push the cars by hand. 2 - 4 guys could do it easily. If they had to take 'em up hill, they towed 'em. If you disengage the cable, they're free rolling. I do remember that.
I don't remember how they crossed each other, though. I don't remember them ever crossing but I was very young back then.

The suspension bridge is on the DLS the kuid is <262137:10136> it is just called "Suspension Bridge" it is not the Golden Gate but good enough to use in the background even it is placed closer (on the Map)than the real distance away and I have not joined any road to it.
The Vintage Trolley/tram Car line is now included and runs from about 2 blocks West of Powell St goes down Market St and along the waterfront to Fishermans Wharf.
Any one interested in making the Tram/Cars for this line Please ?

Red.
Yes there will be a Trs 2004 Sp1 Version a little while after the TC3 ver is on line.

NormP.

Nope no 2006 version Sorry.

More memories. I remember the driver jumping out of the car occasionally to guide or push it. It is possible that he did this when coming to a crossing. I do remember that the ride wasn't always a smooth one. Kind of jerky as I recall. Probably when disengaging and reengaging the cable as they coasted across a crossing.
I can also remember when one driver would leave his car to help another driver push his. It never seemed to take any more then a minute, though. They were always running to help each other.
(Of course, none of this was ever done on a steep hill.)
I know the turntables were all hand operated back then.

Ah, the memories of San Francisco...

Freightcar.

A lot of 04 maps do work in 06 after a bit of rework (from what i've read ) so you will be able to try it.

Ben.

I didn't see any rail version of the bridge on the DLS.

Norm.

I have TRS2006 and TC2. I prefer to use TC2 for many reasons, but CMP will not allow me to download this route because it is for TC3 :( I would love this route, is there a way to enable it for TC2?

Thanks!

I'm not sure how I'd missed this thread, but this is absolutely outstanding work. The screens capture the atmosphere of the city and route as I recall from my visit to SF. Keep up the really great work. I believe it will be a piece art and a must for all of us.

PS: for Ben1337 - that suspension bridge is mine and although it's not a railway bridge, rails can be laid across it. I've laid rails on it without any problem so far.

You do know this route has been released already for the TC3 guys...

:)

Just a reminder there is also a Driver Session for the TC3 version on the DLS look for it as "Sunday Tourist" it will help you to understand the way the AI handle's the Cable Car route and the Turntables used.

Yes there will be a Driver Session provided with the 04 version,a bit different because the Move T Table rule is not used.
Just hold your breath a little while longer for the 04 map,I'm still testing it.
