Seems improbable to me that they would have a limitation. Any work around. Route size is currently 1231mb.

With a file of that size, the only option is to 'Open for Edit and view in Explorer'. You can then copy the contents and zip the file (I use 7zip) to reduce the size to store or transfer. To restore the file, unzip and drag and drop the folder onto Content Manager. I have 2 routes larger than yours, the NSW Main west which I am currently building and weighs 1574 MB and Main South and branches which weighs in at 1976 MB. I use the above method when transferring. I believe 1gb is the maximum size for a .cdp

Yep, there is a CDP limit, that's why my Cornish Railways route (which is over 1GB) gets uploaded to my website as a zip file, and its too big for the DLS, I don't want to remove loads of baseboards as that means deleting loads of scenery which was years in the making, and huge areas or lines would have to go, it feels more realistic to be driving and you can see landscape further into the distance.

"cdp files should not be made larger than 500MB in size, so as to ensure that the file does not become corrupted and can be imported successfully by Trainz. This method is recommended for transferring smaller numbers of assets, or individual assets."

I've downloaded cdp files up to about 1 GB. I think this is the absolute upper limit of the file size that the format can handle. Like many parts of Trainz there are some that have moved on from the antiquated file limits and memory constraints of 32-bit operating systems and other older technology while others remain in the past such as cdp file sizes.

With the development of HD terrain, this now puts these large routes well beyond what this format can handle in addition to the ever-increasing size of individual assets.

I went the delete baseboards, as I believe like you in not seeing the edge of the world. Did not make much difference in file size. I did stumble across something which had another strange description. I deleted it, along with my route.....Gulp. CDP file got me out of that mess, and 5 hours of downloading later. The route is now 950mb. I have always made big routes, this is my largest to date. Still getting my head around Surveyor 2.0 and HD terrain. Think they have to find another way of route saving as I can see alot of problems coming. Messing with Zip files loading and unloading when you do edits is cumbersome.
So at present it seems when you get to the 1gb mark thats were route saving to CDP ends. ????

Exactly my thoughts, one of my pet pieves is not seeing edge of the world views or cutoff back of tall mountain sides.

I can't unsee what I viewed as I drove my Train.

I tried culling out ground where it was sort of not required and was hidden sort of. Made virtually no difference. Still 250mb oversize for a CDP save.
This needs looking at, as the more complex scenery gets the more we will all hit this wall. At least Trainz is more stable than the early days when routes would just vanish.

You would have to make separate modules or do the zip thing I guess when moving very large routes to a newer Trainz version. Can you zip a cdp?

You can copy your install folder to a new place and use that as your install/data folder for new versions. Makes it pretty quick, depending on how large your install folder is.

I had this issue yesterday, my route got to around 1036 mb and I could no longer save to CDP. Had to go round the route and remove excess boards and also replace and thin out more grasses trees etc. Its taken about 5 hours, but I've got it down to 947 mb, which given I have to really only a tidy it up I should be able to manage to keep it under a 500mb cdp. . I really do not want to split the route to upload to the DLS unless I really have to do so. It does seem really daft to limit CDP size, but it has however forced me to use more efficient assets and to cut down my vegetation levels.

I reduced the file size of the Main West route by converting baseboards away from the track to 10m grid. Boards that have track are 5m grid as it is better for sculpting terrain. Saved about 800mb from that whopper. TurfFX only has a small size overhead of about 100mb per layer.
cheers
