Route Buildings problems with 2009

lander

Engineer
I installed 2009 on my computer about a month ago. The installation went fine and automatically pached to build 40040.

After a few weeks of learning the program I'm now ready to build my first layout in 09. I'm comming from TRS2004 where I've built several layouts without any problems.

I decided to use Andi06's track and turnouts, as I've used them many times in 04. I've noticed that the 09 program sometimes seems to be very slow at executing my inputs, especially when I'm I'm changing topography or saving my work. Many times my grid squares will disappear altogether, leaving my track hanging in midair. Most of the time I have to exit surveyor then return to get my work to show up again. This happens very very often and makes it extreamly frustrating.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem, and if so, can it be corrected. Any help will be appreciated.

These are my machine specs.

Dell XPS Gen 5 with Intel duel core 3.2 GHz pentium extreme processor.
3 GB of memory
Nvidia 7800GTX graphics card
Windows XP Professional

I have the same problem and like lander have to exit and restart. This is most frustrating. Sorry lander but I have no idea what causes it.

Ian

Thanks for the reply anyway Ian. I think I may have found an answer, at least partially. Upon further investigation, It seems it may be the track I'm using.

I really like using Andi06's track. I've noticed when I'm using his "Jk Track A01-00-Default 2m" track, or any of his 2m track, the problem appears. When I try using some other track, the problem seems to go away.

The track appears OK in 09, and the trains seem to run on it OK, but using this track is when I notice the problem with the disappearing grid.

Ian, what track are you using when you encounter this problem?

I really hope I can find an answer to this problem, as this is my favorite track. If anyone can help, It would be very much appreciated.

I find it on most items I try to insert into one of my layouts that I am building at the moment. It has only happened since I installed SnC. Maybe I will scrap my layout and start again.

Ian, I hope you have better luck in the futute. As for me, I still intend to use Andi06's track. I like it that much. I'll try to live with the problem if it doesn't get any worse.

Merry Christmas.

There is a known bug in TS2009 after saving all the terrain and 3D objects vanish for up to two minutes then progressively reappear.

It also appears from '009 onwards, Surveyor has major issues with certain types of track causing a huge hit on performance, even on a short route.

However TS2010 appears even worse in this respect. As posted in another thread, within 20 mins of opening and editing a route it becomes a slideshow making any meaningful work pretty much impossible. Whether it's a memory leak or some other issue I don't know but I never had this at all in TRS2006 or earlier versions and they ran on much less powerful machines too.

Give a try at laying out the track using a low poly one, then when finished, replace the track(s) in one go

See if that helps the situation

I also have a similiar problem, especially when playing the game it periodically gets very sticky like a slideshow and my fps gets down to 1-2 :( this continues for about one or two minutes and then gets back to 30-40 fps. It seems like a memory leak but i still could not found what is the cause. It happens at most of the maps. That my system is also an average system on a Dell 6400 machine with 2.85 ghz processor , 256 mb graphics with ati x1400 radeon.
