First off, I hope everyone here and their loved ones have a fantastic New Year and that's even better than last year! Can anybody point me in the direction (either DLS or a 3rd party site) that has additional seasonal textures? I have a few (I believe most were built in but I do have McGuirel's (spelling?) Ultra Textures). Right now I'm limited to 3 grass textures, 3 rock textures, 1 wildflower, and 4-5 farm field textures. Being limited on the rock and grass is really limiting me. If there's editing involved in what I already have, no time like the present to learn how to edit this stuff. Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing I asked for the immediate arrival of the anti-christ. Not one reply, yet multiple views. On a side note, regarding textures, I've noticed that one particular seasonal grass was working fine, but suddenly, it started keeping the "fall" look in winter, instead of having the grass covered with snow. That honked me off to no end. I had literally spent hours re-texturing areas only to have the desired effect up and disappear. The asset KUID in question is this : 2:407941:1001:1

Has anybody else encountered this before? If so, what was the fix?

Thanks again.

I'm not too famillar with seasonal ground textures, but I do remember reading somewhere on the forum about similar trouble with Speedtrees blooming or losing their leaves out of season.

From what I remember, it was apparently connected to what region was chosen for that route, but I'm not sure really. I believe someone else would probably have more experience in this field than myself I'm sorry.

No need to apologize! :D

At least I know I haven't fallen COMPLETELY off my rocker. My route is set for the US. Speed trees have no problems so far (knock on wood). Only the one seasonal grass texture I posted the KUID for. I went temporarily insane last night when zipping along in surveyor and I stumbled upon all those lovely brown patches. Felt like hours went down the tubes, and using the "paste" textures tool just crushes my system for some reason. Pretty much a press the paste button and walk away for about 5 minutes. Granted, I was using HUGE blocks to paste with...That idea has since been abandoned. =)

Have you unticked show favorite content only, in surveyor, main menu, options, surveyor options-at the bottom .

Fran, The issue I'm having isn't that its not showing up. It shows up, but it's failing. I poked around a bit and after some toying, the culprit reared its ugly head and revealed some info. Hopefully someone here can help me fix this as it seems its now a faulty asset.

These are the errors :

Error: The *.texture.txt file is missing for texture resource 'autumn.texture'.
Error: The *.texture.txt file is missing for texture resource 'snow.texture'.
Error: The *.texture.txt file is missing for texture resource 'snow_norm.texture'.
Error: The *.texture.txt file is missing for texture resource 'summer.texture'.
Error: The *.texture.txt file is missing for texture resource 'summer_norm.texture'.

Now, here's a screen shot of the asset folder :

Apparently, the text files have vanished. I'm guessing it'd be an easy fix via the old copy and paste trick. Any help on fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

Tried that. No luck. :/ Worst case scenario, I'll end up re-texturing. I wonder if I can copy the text files from a different KUID, edit the KUID inside the text file to match the KUID of the faulty asset and see if that works. The textures are all by the same person, so I don't think it'd be a big issue, but one never knows.

Hi,
This is usually a problem with newer content which has the textures in texture format, in other words a compressed format. For some reason the Trainz program is still looking for the files that point to either .bmp or .tga texture files. The error does not show up in builtin items unless you open them for edit and re-commit them. The solution is to open them for edit again then select revert or revert to original. A few downloaded items react the same way.

Cheers,

Hi Bill,

I tried this, and now my problem is even worse than before. Now ALL the seasonal textures aside from fields are now showing up in the "fall" mode. Even if I try putting down new texture, same results. Now I'm at my wits end. :(

Just re read 1st post, txt files missing, try this.
Open one of the failed assets using explorer, find a texture text file, copy+paste it. Replace any reference to the old one with one that's missing. ie green with snow.
It should work.
Still doesn't explain why they're going faulty on you.

I just downloaded that texture into TS2010 and opened it for edit. I am seeing TGA files, not .texture files. The config.txt is pointing to the TGA files directly. No .texture.txt files in sight. CM is not showing any errors or warnings. I am not sure if me using TS2010 and you (SHOPlanB) using TS12 makes a difference, though.

Below is a screenshot of what the asset's folder looks like on my computer in TS2010.

Regards,

Zachary.

Zachary,

That's exactly what I have in my folder. I'm getting an error once its opened, but not before, and the errors point to that mystery .txt file

This is very frustrating. I have over 1000+ hours in my route, and now to have this happen just makes me want to throw bricks and bottles at various objects and persons.
I'm gonna try using the config files for the fields (as they are currently working) and see if that can help. If not, I guess I have to hire a voodoo witch doctor.
And make sacrafices to the game gods. I think they are displeased with me.

Seeing as I'm a total nooblet with gravy, below I posted 2 configuration files for 2 of the assests. The first one is one that's NOT working correctly.

The only difference I can see is the "above snow line" line of code. Hopefully someone with experience in these matters can look at this and spot the problem.

Again, I thank everyone for helping me out. That's why I think this community is fantastic.

just a thought.

Also the second is specifying a TGA texture which maybe why the first isn't working, it may have the TGA's but the config isn't specifying them.

Shane and Fran,

Should I try altering the config file on the ones that don't work so they match the one that does? I tried changing one of the texture files to a .tga and that ended in disaster (thank God I had backed up the original!) I fired up TS2010 and the textures worked fine there right away. Should I try re-importing the working ones from TS2010 to 12? I'll try anything once...twice if it was fun.

Why not.
See if making a cdp of the texture from 10 and import to 12 does the trick.
Did you mean you put .tga in the one that doesn't work and it still didn't ?
In the config you should have removed texture and put tga.

Fran, I'll be the first to admit, I'm clueless on how to create a cdp.

However, I have a few screen shots that might help identify the problem. The asset seems to be working "semi" correctly. Its not until it hits winter time that it fails.

It seems like the asset is semi working. That's why I'm stumped. They were fine one day, then they just up and stopped working.
