Replacing Speedtrees in TANE

I know that this has to be done. Is it done the "old fashioned way" using replace asset on a route by route basis, or is there a way to do it globally? Also, what are the best replacement trees?

Nope. There's no fast way. Updating the config.txt file for the route does not do what you'd think because the assets are tracked in the obj file in the route folder.

So. Using the old search and replace assets is the only way.

There are Speed Trees by RMM. They begin with ST and have RMM in their name. The good news is he made some for TS12 which have direct replacements in T:ANE. You download the TS12 ones, replace those on your route and save. Download all his Speed Trees in T:ANE and you can then bring your route in without worry. :)

Keep in mind these are Russian, however, there's a list available with the English names. Dub is oak, kust is bush, and so on.

There are some Speed Trees by Mcguirel and some new built-ins which have been replaced as well, but not all.

There are Speed Trees up on the DLS which you can replace RMM trees with if you wish. These are by Pofig (yes, they're legit), and Roy's Trains. (Roy Joosten).

For some non-Speed Tree varieties, look at the CL Trees by Clam1952. These are quite nice, however, there is no direct replacement in T:ANE, but you can always use anyway later on.

Hope this helps.

Please pardon if this is a dumb question, but say I have a route with faulty speedtrees. If they are faulty, they won't show in game, correct? How do I find them in Surveyor to replace them?

G'day, I thought you could use the replace tool for that, i'm sure I used to do that in TS12 as long as both assets are installed.

Barrie

That part I understand, but if an item is faulty and doesn't appear, how do you locate it on the map to replace it?

You can't as they do not exist on the map. Need to change them to something that works in TANE and in TS12 in TS12 before importing.

Install a dummy object, having the kuid of the faulty tree. I'm using a 50m high, square (1m x 1m), red column.

Peter

That's a good idea. Would I just take some random object, change the kuid to the faulty tree's and swap it out in CM?

Best use some simple, tall building, like an industrail smokestack. The texture should be changed to some eyecatching color, to make it easier to find it on the map.

I was thinking about doing something similar to my large TS2010 route. I've used about 35 different speedtreez by pofig. I think I might try reskinning some simple road signs. Each with a number representing one of pofig's speedtreez.

You could also use old dmdrake equivalent-looking trees as placeholders and then replace those when you bring the route into T:ANE. Some of these do load up okay though in T:ANE so you might want to keep them.

What ever happened to pofig's speedtreez being updated to TANE? Wasn't this a project someone had started and had permission from pofig?

Erm there are some of pofigs on the DLS 43 assorted Trees and shrubs.

Plus RoysTrainz 75 whom I believe was working with pofig

rmm 335 trees and shrubs.

olegkhim 23

Mcguirel 49

A few from Gawpo 50

and the builtins quite a lot of them some are quite reasonable

How many Speedtrees do you want? there are 868 odd trees and shrubs of the SpeedTree kind available to my knowledge.

Search Category Flora, Minimum Build version 3.8 and apart from my TANE Billboards nearly everything else is SpeedTrees.

Or look for prefix
PgTree_ (pofig)
st_rmm (rmm)
st_ (olegkhim)
Roys_ (RoysTrainz)
M (URST) (mcguirel) should be a : after M however stupid forum thinks its a smiley!
Tree or shrub (N3V)
Names of Trees such as Oak apple and so on (Gawpo50) his are all 3.8 build.

Open the config.txt file in notepad. Click on "Edit". Click on "Replace. Type in the name of the kuid you wish to replace, and the kuid you wish to replace with.
You may have to do this a second time, as the kuid will also appear in the kuid table at the bottom of the config file.

Changing entries of the kuid-table of a map (or session) doesn't work. The kuid-table of a map/session is only for the contentmanager to find the dependencies, the kuids used by a map/session are coded into the various files of the map/session.

You're correct Peter. You can't use that method to replace faulty assets in a route, but you can use it to replace faulty assets in a consist. The config file of a consist shows the kuids of each piece of rolling stock in addition to the kuid table, whereas routes don't. I had quite a few consists that I imported into Tane, only to find that some of the rolling stock was faulty, and I was able to substitute them with other rolling stock using the replace method in the config.txt file. I incorrectly assumed that the method would also work in a route. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Does anyone knows if we're going to have the same problem with speedtree replacement when we will get to a further version (like version 7) in a future trainz release and want to import a route from T:ane to that new version ?

I doubt it unless N3V is required to change the underlying engine if they do some kind of software upgrade, which I doubt will happen.

Probably not as the issue was probably having to re-license for what is technically a new game as it uses a different Game engine, which I can't see N3V doing again for many years yet.
