I have no idea why trainz had this problem since the first version but roads float almost a meter above the ground, often tracks do as well. Many tracks have slightly thicker ballast under it that has helped this problem, but upon spending 40 min sorting through road splines and intersection models I can't find a single comprehensive road/level crossing pack that looks good and doesn't float.
Can anyone recommend a good pack roads, intersections, and hopefully compatible level crossings that would work for both town and country roads, has a good selection of intersections, and doesn't float more than 30cm or so off the ground?
And can anyone tell me why the trainz community hasn't just agreed a 0m road/track offset standard? I understand when trainz first came out and video cards had z-buffering issues that a large separation between terrain and flat 2d roads was needed. But why oh why do our nice fancy 3d roads with sidewalks continue to float so high above the terrain? It's not a small amount, it's huge, people are burried up to their torso in sidewalk and buildings front doors get the bottom 1/3 chopped off.
