The Compass seems to be the prime focus for all viewing. It appears to always follow the terrain elevation within one or two meters of it. This usually means that if you are in a cut the minimum viewing level is somewhat higher than the base of the cut.
The other thing seems to be that there is no way to raise the level of the compass so that all viewing is either at "ground" level or the view is pivoted from this point on the ground.
It would be nice (usual humble opinion) to be able to raise the view point straight up so you could get a good perspective from the cab height of an engine. The only way you can come close is to tilt the view and zoom out a bit but it remains a tilted view not straight on to the surroundings. The ability to set the vertical position of the view point would also allow you to get a good cab view in a deep cut when the compass is close to a hillside.
