Railroad Alaska Returns for a New Season

A new season of Destination America's TV series Railroad Alaska will start Saturday, November 14, at 10:00PM Eastern Time. Fortunately, Doctor Who goes off at 10 so I can quickly flip over to watch Railroad Alaska.

It's a good show. My dad and I watched it for a bit, but it wasn't what we were hoping for. It was more focused on adventures than just trains. So I watch Trains and Locomotives on RFD-TV every Monday, though. :)

We recently canceled a lot of our channels because the bill was ridiculous, so we lost RFD-TV, but I used to watch Trains and Locomotives on there often. I don't remember if we still have Destination America, but we watched Railroad Alaska when it first came on and we really enjoyed it. It was kind of like a twist of trains and Mountain Men. :hehe:

Well, if you buy all that Herron Rail and Mark I have to offer. You'd have a good chunk of the programs they show. :)

Yeah, that's true. I own a couple from Herron Rail, but I'm not really a big fan of Mark 1. I do love Pentrex and Goodheart Productions, though.

I actually have a 6-disk set from Mark I with Jim Boyd as narrator. Has a nice video on the Reading Rambles and the Schuylkill Shifter freight service, both featuring Reading #2102.

I second that although Ive been also a fan of Railway Productions, TSG Multimedia, and a newcomer called Yard-Goat Images. But Pentrex will alway my ultimate favorite. :)

Greg Scholl Video Productions has a couple of very good videos on 152, both from the 80's and (I think) 2010. I own the old VHS version of the one from the 80's, but I've read that the new DVD version has an extra half hour of video that couldn't fit on the old one hour tapes. Either way back in the 80's she still used her original whistle, and whether it seems legit or not, it sounds a LOT smoother, (better), than the duplicate version that they use(d) now.

Edit: Found the preview for the 2010 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPQoeRSB_Mc

Pentrex and Herron are the best IMHO. Dave Drui and Ralph Morse are like the Morgan Freemans of railroading videos. :)

Railroad Alaska is an vaguely interesting show, but they concentrate too heavily on stories external to the route. Their camera panning and editing skills are terrible (like whipping through ten scenes in 3 seconds and the rapid zoom in and out), plus all the commercials - usually repeated over and over until you're ready to scream. Otherwise, what is left is a ten-minute treat.
