Sorry,@grogstop65 ...
...but Trainz has bad Skys. Not sharpness.

Only the Sky's from TrainZland (Roger Cabo) has very good skys for TRS.
And thats are Payware Addon.

In Kuju giv 'it a Enviroment (Sky) Blueprint....not a problem a vanilla sky or a Peach sky to generated.Or a real distanz fog or Mist.

I've never seen a sharp sky in my entire life of looking at sky's.
The reason sky's are so difficult to paint or draw correctly is because of their Softness..not sharpness.
Maybe the Kuju sim can generate a sky like the one I stated above or maybe not, but from what I've seen I'm not impressed.

To be fair, I don't think TRS can reproduce your photos that well either. Yes, I know you and others have produced some wonderfully atmospheric pictures but - even with the addition of classy 3rd party content (such as Cabo's skies) - the TRS environment is hopeless at reproducing most lighting effects.

What lends real atmosphere to the photos is the way in which the light hits the train. Without the light, the image would look flat an uninteresting. Right now it would be an almost impossible task to replicate such effects, globally, in TRS. That's why I believe an enhanced environment (coupled with new content building practices) would greatly improve the TRS visuals.

A sky with many"wolken ?/english?)" - has details very well sharpness.
Consider "Cummulus Wolken" ...
Cabo's "next summer" or October blue has Sharpness.

I think that RS looks a little strange. I mean of course it looks absolutley gorgeous but...its a fair bit newer isn't it? I don't know what I think about this whole topic or anything, I'd prefer not to know to be honest. But yeah - congradulations to the RS team, it looks fantastic, but congradulations to Auran for being very open minded and most importantly, for making Trainz. That's all - sorry I don't have any screenshots, but wanted to say my peice. Bye all! Keep safe,
Toby

Perhaps we should have a content building best practices thread or wiki?

That's exactly the kind of debate I've hoped these Rail Sim discussions would stimulate.

Right now, in TRS, we have a truly mixed bag of content building practices with everyone setting their own personal standards. Many of the features we consider "optional extras", such as specular lighting, LoD, working couplings and even (in some cases) shadows, are the norm in KRS.

We could raise the TRS bar to new heights if we all adopted some of these features as standard.

KRS does a nice empty sky but can it do anything else?

Can we have some of this in KRS?
I know we do in trainz.

I care to disagree, TRS is doing a fine job. As for the lighting effects TRS is far from hopeless , so long as you know how to work the light.
Yes TRS could use some improvements but hopeless is a huge misstatement.

As much as I admire your work I still stand by original statement.

"The TRS environment is hopeless at reproducing most lighting effects."

I see no evidence in the images to alter that view. Your compositions look great but there are no hi-lights or shadows to be seen anywhere. That means there is very little depth.

I don't think you and Grogstop quite grasp what I'm saying!

The skies are very pretty - but they're just pictures. The environment/lighting has nothing to do with the sky.

I'm talking about the (sun)light which illuminates the TRS world and how it interacts with the objects that are in it.

Right now, the light and objects (like locos and rolling stock) have a pretty basic relationship. They don't really interact quite as much as they should.

RS's skies constantly change, the clouds don't "repeat" and they will change to rainy, snowy, clear, etc...
