Hello everyone. I am new to these forums and Trainz. Have been a Model Railroader for over 40 years (HO Scale) but due to my hands not working as well anymore I am now trying Virtual Railroading.

When I bought the TRS12 it came with the basic setup and 5 additional files ( Setup 1a.bin, Setup 1b.bin, Setup 2a.bin, Setup 2b.bin and Setup 3a.bin)

Question I have is, what do I do with these files and what is on them?

Also in my Assets list I do not have any straight roads. I looked under buildings, paint, Track etc. Where do I find these?

Thank you for helping this old newbe out.

Roads should be under the Buildings menu in the spline" section. The button next to the "house" button. As for those files, I'm assuming you have a downloaded version of the game? I imagine those are needed installation files, so you will need them anytime you want to reinstall the game.

Welcome to the forums.

The .bin files stored compressed data required to install the game.

Regarding the straight roads, I cannot help much on this one I'm afraid.

you make the roads the same as you do tracks but unfortunately you dont have a straightner. short distances between spline points helps,
Cheers,

Welcome to Trainz and the Forum.

You can use the straighten tool in the track menu. Just select the tool and click on the spline you want to straighten.

Thank you all, I knew it had to be something simple and right in front of me. I found roads and I guess I will put those files into my Trainz files.

When, or if, you update to Service Pack 1 you will find that there is a "road straightener" button on the same pop-out tab as you find roads. It was added into the Service Pack so you don't have to go to the track pop-out to straighten a road.

As fot the .bin files, you put them into one single directory (folder) along with the actual install program and run the install. The installer will grab each of the .bin files as needed. If you have TS2012 already installed, then I suggest that you gather up the installer executable (.exe) and all the .bin files and burn them to a DVD for backup.

You don't mention what your operating system is, but in Windows 7 and above, it is advisable to create you own Trainz installation directory (folder) OUTSIDE the default of Program files or Program Files (x86). If you do this, you avoid hassles with UAC and Administrative rights.

Hello
I run this program on 2 computers. My lap top which has Windows 8 and my desk top which runs Windows 7

Thank you for the tip

I just want to say Welcome to trainz and if you find it hard going don't despair, just submit your question in the appropriate thread arias and someone will help. Trainz has a steep learning curve. To see what can be accomplished have a look at the Screenshots section. Happy Trainzing.

Welcome to Trainz and to the forums.

Feel free to ask questions and become totally and absolutely absorbed by the program. You'll find yourself spending hours and hours building and fiddling just like you did with your regular model railroad. I too left my N-scale stuff due to the same reason. That was nearly 10 years ago and I haven't even looked back. :)
